Well the only one I have personally is Zsnes :P

*points to users* GOOGLE lol

BTW I should also mention; if you're recording in chunks, it is okay to send multiple movie files from your run (like if you need to stop and continue later, etc)

XD I'm not willing to sit and watch 14 hours of video :P

Super Metroid can be beaten in less then an hour XD

You serious? I think I beat it in like 4 hours... Yeah, I guess its plausible.

DAAAAANG. O_o But idk how to do Zsnes movie files. X_x

:P Just go to "Movie Opn" in the far right menu on the top, and then record movie

The latest Zsnes lets you export your movie... but anyway dont be afraid to record multiple movie files for the same run; realistically if you want to get it perfect, you're almost going to have to. Just make sure your continued run starts at the same position your last one ends, or else I wont count it :P

yeah, anyone who doesn't know the best emu to use, go here and download "snes9x-1.51-improvement2-beta6-win32.zip" right at the bottom.

Then while playing super metroid, just map the save and load state keys to your joypad, then go file- Movie Record.
Then after you've recorded your run, open up the rom, then go file- Movie Play, and then record an AVI of it playing back.
Or just upload the SMV, everyone else with the emu and rom can play your SMV, plus they're tiny

It feels wrong, but I'd like to.

:P *see's .TakaM's advert brought along some professionals* lol

Anyway yeah the idea is to do one specifically for this contest within the time frame :P While it obviously wouldn't have the fine tuning and extra attention as a normal TAS speed run, it'd still be pretty nice to see one you do for this contest :P

My run will probably range from the 45 to 55 minute range, depending on what tools I use at my disposal... I'm limited to 3 keys at one time, so a lot of the glitches are off limits for me; I'm pretty much limited to mockball, kagoball, and a few others :P Although I'm not going to be able to sit and count frames for my run either... which kinda sucks, lol

Ok, maybe I'll do a lightweight TAS, only using slowdowns and rerecordds, no frameadvance except in some places. I think I could hit 00:30-00:27 in a day or two of work XD

what's cheating?

TAS isn't cheating, that's just propaganda spread by traditional speedrunners

and go easy Cpadolf, remember, no one here is a speedrunner, let alone tas'er

No its not Ali; I'm going to quote something for you from another site-

Quote
Are tool-assisted speedruns cheated?
Cheating has two meanings:

    * To deceive by trickery.
    * To violate rules deliberately.

Arguably, we do cheat the games. The games have been programmed assuming that the player is a human who has humanly limits. We surpass those limits with tool-assistance.

For example, there are very few humans who can produce a 30 Hz autofire by rapidly bashing the B button, but in tool-assistance, it is trivial to do that. We also abuse many programming errors in the games.

But we do not cheat the audience. The makers of tool-assisted speedruns are very open at how they made the movies. There certainly is no deceiving taking part. It is the audience's responsibility to read and understand how these movies are made.

As for rules, tool-assisted speedruns fall under the rules of tool-assisted speedruns, not under the rules of non-assisted speedruns. The purpose of tool-assisted speedruns is different from regular speedruns and there is no competition between these two different kinds of runs, so the set of rules is not, and does not have to be, the same.

We try to keep the difference from the games themselves minimal. For example, our rules dictate that the movies we make must be of non-modified games. We do not crack and heck the games. Basically, the only thing we do is produce unexpected kind of input to the real games, as if a god were playing the game.

I am not asking for a non TAS speedrun. I'm asking for a speedrun in general, I dont care how its achieved, as long as the game has not been hacked or modified in any way.

That is going easy... I'm both also, which makes me feel rather misplaced in this competition. Still it will be fun to see what I can create within a small timespan.

I might still be able to complete this even without my PC---- my speedrun files are still intact :D so I just need to finish my run and copy those files to another PC and record the movie to AVI
