Graphics / Re: Sword Swinging Animations - I need opinions + help
« on: August 05, 2008, 07:52:56 pm »
Side animations are fine, don't really need any work there. The downward animation is good, but the arm doesn't swing out as far as it should, same with the upward animation. Additionally, the upward animation: the arm should swing from the shoulder, except it doesn't seem to in that last frame, it looks like it's swinging from a tiny forearm or like his shoulder is dislocated.

Entertainment / Re: Which is better? Final Fantasy 4 DS or Golden Sun?
« on: August 01, 2008, 07:30:17 pm »
I already have Golden Sun, I got it when it was new, I'm just saying that I doubt it would be easy for anyone to top it :).

23
Eh, what about Meta Knight? Everytime you try to KO him, he just flies back up, and he attacks so bloody fast. And people (including me) constantly spam B-Right and B-Left.

Entertainment / Re: Has anyone earned EVERYTHING in Brawl?
« on: July 09, 2008, 02:08:15 pm »
Eh, I've collected a fair bit, for the amount of time I've had the game. There are like 50 events though, six difficulties for Classic and SSE, so many characters you can do each game with, etc. so there are so many things you need to do to unlock things. I used one of my hammers to unlock the Hanenbow stage (the Electroplankton stage I did with you, remember Chris?)

Entertainment / Re: I saw Hancock last night

Mm, I saw it on the opening night, great film, although I admit that there's not that much action. It's pretty intense at times, but I didn't get too worked up because when I got to the cinema I accidentally bought tickets for the wrong time and when I went into the screen I caught the ending of a previous performance >_<; so I knew how it was going to end.

Adverts & Recruitment / Re: Win two Mario figurines with zConnection!

We're not exactly competing with ZFGC, the two have entirely different base concepts. ZFGC is ... Something. I'm not quite sure, because I heard you guys were breaking away from fangaming and now its a bit of a gray area to me. zConnection supports production of independently produced software for computer and console platforms, while also delivering information on commercial developments.

I would probably be a bit disappointed, but if it ever came to it, I'd probably adopt a kid (preferably a post-crying all night stage kid).

Are you talking about upgrade to the current beta or a future one? Because the SMF 1.1.5 to SMF 2.0 Beta 3.1 Public theme converter works very well, even with heavily modified or entirely custom themes.

Upgrade will automatically correct theme and language files.

ESB speech on Moviemaking by Connor Beaton.

Hello. Today I am going to be making a speech on common film making techniques and effects that are utilised by both modern and classic films. Before I do so, however, I’d like to bring to your attention that I will be providing some visual aids to help visualise what I’m trying to say as well.

I’d like to begin my speech by talking about a film’s script. The script basically tells the actors what to do. The script is usually written by the director or producer, but sometimes there’s a different screenwriter. Scripting is long, and most movie scripts end up at around 70 to 120 pages long, depending on the movie length.

Here are pages from the original Back to the Future script. If you watched Back to the Future, you’d see that there are some very big differences. This is because sometimes the director makes changes while shooting. There are also sometimes different drafts issued.

Show script pages.

Film scripts include more than just stage directions. They also contain information on special effects and camera angles. It also tells you about dialogue, sometimes with notes like OS or VO. There are plenty different types of camera angle, which I can show you.

An establishing shot sometimes introduces a new scene. It is zoomed out a lot and shows the viewer the setting and general relationship of objects and people in the scene. This is sometimes also called a wide shot, or a very wide shot.

A close up is when the camera zooms in on a particular subject. You can get close ups, extreme close ups, and medium close ups, which define how close up it is. If it were to zoom in on a character, a close up would probably show their head.

Show camera angle pictures.

The script normally also contains music cues. The script would then be passed onto a composer who would write music for the entire film. Famous film composers include John Williams known for Harry Potter and Jurassic Park, Howard Shore known for LotR and King Kong, and Yann Tiersen.

Special effects can be done a number of ways. In older days, when they couldn’t make things, they would model them and utilise stop motion animation. This is when they make a model and move it bit by bit while taking pictures in between. When they put it together at 24 pictures every second, the model appears to move smoothly. This is how the 1930s King Kong was animated.

Today, however, you have practical and computer-generated. Practical is real. A practical explosion is a real explosion. Computer-generated effects are, as the title suggests, made entirely on the computer and are not real. The new Peter J. King Kong is computer-generated.

Help.

BlitzMax

'nuff said.

I agree, I love BlitzMAX. I'm slowly but surely converting from GM to Blitz, and I'm happy to have done so.

Define a normal person, LynkW, then I'll accept your argument. And the fact that your figures show 0% bisexual people is a little odd. Or do you automatically categorise them into gay?

Anyway, the Wii Homebrew Channel lets you boot homebrew from an SD card, so let's just wait until somebody develops some sexy homebrew.

Entertainment / Re: Which Linux distro should I use?
« on: June 01, 2008, 12:09:48 pm »
I suggest either openSuSE or Mandriva Linux. I use Mandriva personally, but I find that SuSE is powerful, efficient and if looks could kill, I'd be turning up in a ditch right about now.

He loves little figurines! Anyway, one of the competitions is open to anyone, so there. And besides ... if the competitions turn out to be popular, I don't see anything preventing me buying some games to put up. DS games aren't exactly that expensive.

Feedback / Re: You all wanted your Wiki so badly.
« on: May 31, 2008, 09:11:47 pm »
Is that why I'm having problems logging in...?

38
Nothing out of it? Uh, for one thing, you can enter the competitions ... which have physical, tangible prizes.

39
Perhaps. I might also put some free-to-enter competitions up when I get the chance. Those will be popular, right?

Other Discussion / Re: Laptop will not connect to router- WTF?!
« on: May 31, 2008, 08:42:03 pm »
I randomly get kicked off the network, and when I try to connect, Vista tells me that [brot] is a hidden network or your wireless network key is incorrect (paraphrased). Both are false, and I need to reset the router to fix it. I'm also on a laptop. My dad's new XP laptop has the same problem. Can anybody help with that?
