It's not bad, but it's not great either.
Little too much cheese for my tastes as it stands.

Well, the cheese is kinda part of the point. :P

But yeah, glad people have enjoyed it. We figured the audience would be pretty good for an Oregon Trail LARP because a lot of people, at least in America, played it in elementary school.

A great LARP, although I do not know the game. I really enjoyed it. I cannot help wondering what it will be when you decide to LARP Pokemon.

Someone actually approached Boris about this. However, the idea has been done quite a bit and we're not sure how to approach it in a new or clever way. Chances are, the next videos we do are probably going to be Doom and Banjo-Kazooie, as we have some really hilarious ideas floating around.

You guys probably saw that Minecraft LARP video I posted a while back that I made with some friends, specifically Boris, the guy who plays the main character. We made another one yesterday, and Boris really stepped up his fight choreography. My other very good friend Daniel, who plays the "ninja" at the end, also gave a strong performance. And of course, it was filmed entirely by yours truly :D

We're hoping this video sees the success of the Minecraft one, which got over 180,000 views and was featured on Kotaku, GameInformer.com, and The Daily What.

I just read it. I personally think the article would be a lot more interesting if you explored gaming from a cultural perspective rather than a personal one. Right now it just kinda reads like "GOLLY GUYS, REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS?"

I pretty much hate Anamaguchi :P

YOU ARE SO DIFFERENT AND COOOOOLLLLL

Anyway, I love pretty much any kind of music except for country and screamo/hardcore/whatevercore !@#$%. These are some of my favorite songs at the moment:

I don't really think this theory makes any sense. How then do other successful adaptations of other media, such as Lord of the Rings, work so well on film? What you have to do is capture the innate spirit of your source material and adopt it to the other medium. No, of course it won't be the same, but that doesn't mean the final product won't work.

1) The topic is about videogames ported to other mediums.

Yes, I know that. But adaptation is adaptation. When you adapt a game you're not looking to adapt the "gameplay." When you adapt a book, you're not adapting the prose, the rhythm, or the smell of the pages. You're adapting the story. So saying that games can't be adapted properly really doesn't make any sense. Stories don't always work in other mediums, but sometimes they do.

Quote
About your example of LotR. The movie on its own is a great movie. And it is so successful because there are but a few people that actually made it all the way through the books. But as a movie adaptation of a book I think it kinda fails in that aspect.

You really thought so? I'm familiar with the source material despite never having read all of the books (Yes! I'm ashamed!) and though some elements were left out, from what I understand the movies were reasonably faithful to the books. They capture their spirit. That's more important than making sure every single character and locale is represented, if you ask me.

46
And for MGS would not make a good movie, because it would miss a lot of a game. And there never is an actor that can put forth the image of the character you have. Because that image is not just made by the cutscenes, dialogs and graphics of the game. Your playing style is also incorporated in that image. That is why every actor will always be a disappointment.

As for me, I'd pick Eric Bana if he was a better actor for Snake. For director, I think Ridley Scott would work great.

For me, "expanding" on universes gets annoying when it turns into franchising without any actual quality instead of being there for its original purpose (example: all the silly FFVII spinoffs.)

Also, everyone agrees that MGS would make a great movie. The real question is who to play Snake and who to direct?

If you were Blizzard, you'd advertise all over the place too.

Sephiroth from KH1. I actually say "screw it I cant be arsed" to it. I never win.

He has a very specific pattern. Once you master it you can beat him pretty much any time you fight him, almost regardless of your level. I remember getting that fight down to a T D:
For me though, I really had a difficult time fighting Seymour on my first ever run of Final Fantasy X on Mt. Gagazet. Not sure why it was so hard.

Oh yeah. And the guardian thing you fight in Zanarkand on the floating platforms.

By far the hardest boss I've ever fought was either the Black Dragon or Zophar in Lunar 2. Both have epic dungeons leading up to them and deal a lot of damage. The Black Dragon also resists most damage by around 50% or so.

This is a rather large undertaking, however i don't think it will work the way you expect.

Doing this would be like putting an engine from a race car into a geometro, however I wish you luck.

Funny you should mention that:

(no, it's not really a racecar engine, but it's a strong V8)

The game is addictive because everything you do rewards you. You chop down a tree, you're rewarded with materials. You place a block, you're rewarded with something you personally created. You take a step, you're rewarded with being that much closer to your next adventure. And believe me, you DO have adventures in this game. I was down in a mine with ZServ and walnut100 for almost 2 hours... Just mining. And it was genuinely FUN. This game is FUN. It's a game you could play with your worst enemy and still enjoy it.

This. In Survival multiplayer, I feel like I'm a kid again going on adventures with friends in my backyard. There's always something new and interesting around every corner in the game world.

Damn...how can you guys enjoy Minecraft so much?  I see nothing to enjoy from it other than a "Hey, check it out! I completely remade <insert a location/building,whatever> in Minecraft."
I played it for maybe an hour at best and thought it was a joke.

I would rather try to recreate a real world city/civilization in Sim City or Civilization.

It looks neat, MG-Zero, but damn >.>
If you had the time and were bored senseless, do the inside of the pyramid from Mario 64.
That's my challenge I present to you.  j/k

I see it as Legos for grownups, with monsters. It's definitely not a game for everyone.

I'm STILL getting download errors. Maybe it's my university network.

Yeah heard about this. Don't care for the game. And I try to avoid GFWL whenever I can.

Yeah this interface is absolutely horrible, and my download failed halfway through. I hope I don't have to use GFWL whenever I actually wanna play the game.

How long does this offer last, anyone know?

I think until 10pm Pacific Time.

Also, purchased (obviously.) Let's organize a ZFGC playdate!

Dantz is pretty much superior in all aspects of storytelling, etc.

Oh stop it, I'm blushing.

I am, and have been for some time strongly of the opinion that ZFGC cannot succeed as a Zelda-only forum. The Zelda fangame niche was carved out by OoT2D. OoT2D, at least in its original form, is no more, and the term itself is kind of a joke here and on the rest of the internet. No other game save Shadowgazer has been able to fill that giant, gaping hole. And King Mob, like any responsible developer, saw his chance to elevate the game to a different level and took it.

Zelda fangaming is a niche, and it appeals to an extremely narrow demographic. If we want to expand, we need to broaden our demographic. I do not see how else it is possible.

Nice. I know it is late, but WTF the A-Teens still exist. I thought they quit after they were done covering ABBA songs.

I was amazed at this too! I heard of them in the states back in the 90s, but I thought they were long gone.

As a side note, we went from 36,000 to 77,000 views in less than 24 hours, and have been featured on gameinformer.com, Joystiq, and The Daily What.

That was funny, nice and good editing as well. Just one question, does he always talk with such a lisp or was it that he had a dentist appointment, or was it acting?

Strictly acting. Boris actually has kind of a deep voice.
