Title: My newest songs (added a piano-song called "Kaunis")
Post by: TomPel on April 15, 2008, 01:31:24 pm
WIP 1:

At the moment, it's kinda empty and it just has the basic shape of things.
But I'm really satisfied with the ending.

New WIP song added:

New song added (flute song instrumental):

Added a little older song, called "Kaunis", which means Beautiful:

I can't really give you any critiques or anything, (I don't know how to play any sort of music), but I like what you have so far.  I agree that the ending sounds really nice, good job!  :D

not bad, your latest song is pretty good :P
simple and consistent.. but effect-less!
since you are a beginner you should try adding a piano with only a few low notes that plays the "important" notes for each basetone (for example)
or send me the .flp or exported .zip (from FL) and ill show you how (but tell me if you have either z3ta+, Sytrus, Morphine, Toxic or orchestral)

btw im sure you're trying to read on how to make certain sounds, effects and generally how to
i strongly advice you to only learn how to make what YOU want to make, and learn from what others make not so you make the same !@#$%, but so you can improve your own songmaking
i never listen to other peoples work, ever (i used to), but im doing well good on my own..
the hard part used to be when i couldnt make the sound i wanted to
or an effect etc.
sound theory is more important than you think, but that comes with time :P (i never read on it, i just aha'd all the way there)

Who said I'm a beginner? :P
And the "important" notes are to be sung. I'll record the vocals, when I get a new microphone (which I'll buy in summer).
That might be why it seems a little empty at the moment.

Nice man.  My dad played(and still sometimes plays)flute, and he was good, but this is GREAT.  I like the background music, and then the flute is really accentuated.  nice.

now, did you play it yourself, have a friend do it, or was it mixed?  it sounds recorded live, but I can be mistaked...on a lot sometimes.

Well, the flute is just a pretty great plugin for the program I'm using to make the music. ^^
Only instruments I can really play is guitar and a little piano. :D

I don't think Tom is a beginner. The song structure is actually very advanced. The lead melody uses a specific scale of notes, and not some random notes. The other instruments matches with the notes of the lead melody in a great structural way too. For example; the first song has uses the chords/notes "E, E, G, A" and at the verse "E, E, G, A - E, E, G, E".

Anyways, I made a Symphonic Metal remix of the first song (still WIP, just like your song):

Not too bad remix, though it's hard to say, because it's a midi. And midis don't usually sound too good.

i wasnt talking about notes, song, scale or transitioning
i was talking about the sound, which makes all the difference
maybe you havent noticed, but MIDIs dont really sound too good :P
and in a real DAW you can do so much more than just add effects and nice instruments...

Yeah, I'm not that great when it comes to mixing.
Maybe I should try to work more on the sound, instead of just melodies.
I'll move to real instruments when I've gathered enough people for a band. That's kinda my goal.
EDIT:
Added a little older song, called "Kaunis", which means Beautiful:

i tuned in, i dont offer much critique but i liked the song, so that probably means others will like it even more :P
then again, this music isnt unknown to me, i have a ton of AOST music.. but keep at it
what i miss the most from you is more instruments and ambience, ambient sounds etc.
there are some really nice sites for that, free of cost as well!
