I know I've reposted this a dozen of times already, but it really deserves to be noticed. It's made by Ultimortal, an old ZFGC member.

This puzzle game is controlled with the keyboard and mouse - the keyboard moves the character, while the mouse is used to place and destroy bricks. The first set of levels are built as tutorials, to ease you into the game one step at a time, and the help file tells you everything that the tutorials don't. The game has over 50 levels of increasing difficulty, and there is also a user-friendly level editor where you can create, edit and play your own levels. Thanks to Pug Fugly for the wonderful music used in the game!

The game creates a file called castlesave.sav in the same directory as the game. A special file is also created for every custom level you build.

This is honestly one of the best "home-made" games I've ever played, the design is spot on, and while the music does get kind of repetive, it really blends with the game. It's also one of the hardest games I've ever played. Hell, I have only beat one level on the hardest difficulty. ;) (I could just suck though).

Go here for the download: http://www.remar.se/daniel/castle.php
Please don't read the spoiler guide. It'll ruin the game for you.

The game has also been awarded "Staff's Choice" over at YoYo games.

Feedback / Why is ZFGC becoming DSR?
« on: August 12, 2008, 03:46:55 pm »
I don't understand. Didn't DSR/GA teach us anything? Why are we going back to the formula that obviously failed and eventually led to the recreation of the original ZFGC (the way it was before the site).

Your grip should be so that your palms are facing you. How many can do you? Do them strictly, that means no jerking or wobbling your legs to gain height.

Entertainment / Iwata admits Nintendo's E3 sucked (for core gamers)
« on: July 22, 2008, 10:01:23 pm »

Responding to criticism that the Nintendo's E3 showings lacked a major first-party Wii title aimed at the hardcore gamer, president Satoru Iwata has apologized to those who felt betrayed.

"We are sorry about [the E3] media briefings, specifically for those who were expecting to see Nintendo show something about Super Mario or Legend of Zelda," Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Forbes.

During Nintendo's recent E3 press conference, the company appeared to focus on casual-oriented titles, such as Animal Crossing: City Folk and Wii Sports Resort, and quickly glossed over major hardcore announcements, such as Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on DS and word that the teams for Mario and Zelda were working on new, unspecified titles.

"If there is any perception that Nintendo is ignoring the core gamers, it's a misunderstanding and we really want to get rid of that misunderstanding by any means," he continued. "The so-called big titles need a long, long development period...we really didn't think this year's E3 media briefing was the time to do so."

One of the biggest E3 revelations for hardcore Nintendo fans, news that a new Pikmin game is in the works, came about as a unplanned response to a question from former Shacknews editor Chris Remo.

"I think we're addressing both [hardcore and casual gamers]," marking VP Cammie Dunaway informed Wired, expressing hope that third-party games like Call of Duty: World at War would be enough to sate the desires of hardcore gamers.

"We don't talk about stuff until we've got a great degree of confidence that we're close enough to release it."

The marketing VP confirmed that "the extent" of the Wii's remaining 2008 lineup had been detailed at E3, and also mentioned that despite her announcement of Grand Theft Auto on DS, she had not yet seen the title.

As for a solution to increase the Wii's 512 MB of internal memory, which is used to store downloaded content and has been chastised by developers as limiting the system's potential, Dunaway noted that Nintendo did not yet have a solution to announce, but suggested deleting old, infrequently used content.

Lastly, she expressed her belief that the recently unveiled Wii MotionPlus controller add-on, which increases the precision of the Wii's motion detection capabilities, is likely to "very rapidly" spawn sequels of current and upcoming Wii titles, "because it is a heck of a lot of fun."

Awesome, yes? Many of you will say "I expected this", but didn't just about everyone say that Nintendo abandoned us?

Why aren't you playing already?

Read the "What is KoL?" tab on the main page to see what the game is about. I might add that Kingdom of Loathing is probably the only game that can give me a good laugh every now and then.

As EA confirmed today, the next Knights of the Old Republic is going to be a MMO. From Portfolio.com:

"We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about — in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."

Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? "Yes," he said.

Watch out World of Warcraft, you just might have some serious competition here.

Many were probably suspecting this, but it's finally confirmed. Flip or flop?

Entertainment / Super Mario 64 new speedrun record

Part 3: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=G-lGYkULnoY

This speedrun is just amazing. I know the runner (ShadowOfMyles) through a few boards and MSN, and he is hands down the best SM64 player, even though I've beaten him at a few single star competitions. ;) Anyway, enjoy.

As title states, he beats it in 17:34.57, more than two minutes faster than the previous run on SDA. Myles will submit this to SDA from what I've heard.

Entertainment / R4 cartridge found in Gamestop ad

Kotakuite razmig snapped this rather interesting photo at his local GameStop. In a sign promoting the Nerf DS case, he noticed something a little strange. Right there in the case, nestled among the other games is an R4 cartridge. For those not in the know, the R4 is a popular product that will allow its users to download and play DS games illegally through the use of a Micro SD card. Mind you, the cartridge itself is technically not illegal, but given GameStop's hard stance on this type of thing and Nintendo's recent crackdown on piracy, I'm rather surprised this ad made it through. Having been a graphic designer, I know these things get looked at by a number of people before it goes to print and I would think someone would have caught it. Guess not.

I'd like to know: just what the hell were they thinking? This is clearly not good for them.

Here is my TAS (tool-assited speedrun) of Link's Awakening completed in a mere 4 minutes due to a warp glitch (can be preformed on a real cart, though not on the DX version where it's been fixed. Descriptions on the run and what a tool-assisted speedrun can be found in the description of the video.

What is tool-assistance? http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html

Entertainment / TP Speedrun finished (Spoilers, duh)
« on: April 06, 2007, 10:24:56 pm »
Jiano over at SDA just finished his speedrun of Twilight Princess in 43 segments, which came out at the time 5:45'12. I believe this will be submitted to SDA and published in a while. In the meantime you can watch the clips on his youtube profile at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=SunJiano. A lot of SSBM videos clutter the page though, so you'll have to look a bit. :p

Most of the tricks/glitches used in the run can be found in a compendium displayed in the first post in the discussion topic.

For those of you who love you your Wii interface so much that you???d like to have it replicated on your PC, then I introduce you to the ???Wii OS???. As you can see from the video, it???s a spitting image of the Wii interface. It has 4 channel pages, allows you to put games in seperate channels which in turn will launch the emulator and ROM. There isn???t too much detail on if you need to personally map the different buttons on the Wii controller in order to play the games properly or if it???s handled all by the GUI.

Also, if your wondering about when this application will be released, there has been no official announcement from the author, but you can read along in the Wiili.org forums, where I???m sure he???ll announce something soon.

Entertainment / Nintendo sued for Patent Infringement
« on: December 09, 2006, 02:48:51 pm »
Source: http://wii.ign.com/articles/750/750001p1.html

Quote
December 8, 2006 - In a surprising turn of events, Nintendo is already the target of litigious action concerning its newly released Wii console. California-based Interlink electronics has filed a complaint against Nintendo for what it has deemed to be a case of copyright infringement over the pointing functionalities of the Wiimote.

Gaming blog Kotaku has obtained a court filing, issued by the US District Court of Delaware, which accuses Nintendo of infringing on a patent filed previously by Interlink Electronics. The court filing claims that Interlink Electronics has suffered "loss of reasonable royalties, reduced sales and/or lost profits as a result of the infringing activities of" Nintendo.

The claim refers to a patent filed in February, 2005 which refers to a device titled "Trigger Operated Electronic Device." The patent describes the advice as a "trigger operated device in the nature of a pointing device for use with an electronic system such as a computer." The patent continues to describe a device which, on the surface, sounds an awful like the Wii's controller.

The complaint demands that Nintendo be enjoined and restrained from further infringing on the patent, presumably by taking the Wii off the market. Furthermore, the filing demands that the court order Nintendo to pay Interlink three times the assessed damages, including prejudgment interests and attorney fees. Additionally, the plaintiff is demanding a jury trial of any and all issues pertaining to the case.

This seriously is stupid. If Interlink electronics ends up winning, there might be a bit of trouble for Nintendo, even though the chances aren't very large of it happening.

I think I made my point clear.
