I have all of them, minus Firestorm. I can't find anyone to go with in C&C3, which I bought two days ago.

Feedback / ZFGC: What has it become?
« on: December 10, 2008, 02:18:19 am »
Quote
DIFTOW: See, what i was trying to do on ZFGC was
DIFTOW: get ZFGC to use my engine
DIFTOW: This would get the programmers to help Maoli finish up faster
DIFTOW: while also providing ZFGC with an engine that has 10x more likely hood of finishing
DIFTOW: because it is being worked on with or without them
DIFTOW: thus, giving them a more comfortable 3D project to work on'
SS Jeod: Hah
DIFTOW: plus I'd be making all sorts of things in 3D to help them
SS Jeod: You'd have been better off asking them to est and improve the engine.
DIFTOW: est?
SS Jeod: *test
SS Jeod: my laptop keyboard sucks balls
DIFTOW: well
DIFTOW: they'll just respond with "im busy"
DIFTOW: "too many other committments"
SS Jeod: Infini I know will do that.
DIFTOW: to stupid projects
DIFTOW: like
DIFTOW: password jacker
DIFTOW: ;p
SS Jeod: In what way is that stupid?
DIFTOW: its stupid that Tim
DIFTOW: whines negatively
DIFTOW: when he is one of the people who refuse to participate in anything
DIFTOW: hes the cause of his own complaints
DIFTOW: thats why it is stupid
SS Jeod: That's not pw jacker, that's Infini's complaining.
SS Jeod: I thought you were saying pw jacker itself was stupid
DIFTOW: what i do think is that
DIFTOW: its a less complex project
SS Jeod: Just because it's less complex doesn't mean it's stupid.
DIFTOW: obviously he doesnt want a challenge
SS Jeod: Infini is testing his abilities. If he completes this with ease, he'll do bigger things.
DIFTOW: he wont waste them on ZFGC
DIFTOW:
SS Jeod: True
DIFTOW: so ZFGC has no programmers
SS Jeod: No true programmers, no.
SS Jeod: GM programmers, plenty.
DIFTOW: and thats worthless
SS Jeod: :/
DIFTOW: its good practice maybe
DIFTOW: before you start a REAL language like C++
DIFTOW: but its still, worthless outside of GM
SS Jeod: If you're done ranting, then maybe you should appreciate that many of these people are doing what they like to do with what they like to use.
SS Jeod: What use is doing anything free other than out of 1. goodness of heart and 2. for fun?
DIFTOW: Well, so did TRM
DIFTOW: look how far he got
SS Jeod: A lot farther than anyone thinks he got.
SS Jeod: My point is, please don't rant about your negative opinions to me.
SS Jeod: If you really want to, then post a topic in feedback about your opinions as a discussion topic.
SS Jeod: You might get some good replies, but don't exect them to come without slamming unless you're not going to say what you just said to me.
SS Jeod: *expect
DIFTOW: all i can say is
DIFTOW: some members have finished 2D games
DIFTOW: and no one noticed
DIFTOW: no one played them
DIFTOW: it was a big joke
DIFTOW: not sure how long you have been around but i saw it
DIFTOW: the thrill of looking at WIP 2D games got old
DIFTOW: and when they finally had finished ones, like i said
DIFTOW: no one cared
DIFTOW: a terrible shame
DIFTOW: but i guess 2D just wasnt bringing enough excitement to the table anymore
DIFTOW: so, i conclude with that
SS Jeod: And obviously the concept of 3D wasn't bringing much excitement either.
SS Jeod: Sure members applauded the idea, but I don't recall any of them being really enthusiastic about it.

This topic is meant for discussion. Not slamming of anyone in any way whatsoever. I'm serious; Weasel here has made me give some more thought to ZFGC as a whole.

Discussion / Link's Awakening SNES
« on: December 07, 2008, 11:51:35 pm »
Hi! So I finally decided on what game to make, and I chose Link's Awakening in LttP style. For the most part, it will be an exact replica, but a few new things will be added:

-The color dungeon fairy will ask if you want your green tunic back if you're wearing a blue or red one.

-The camera mouse's pictures will be remodeled for LttP Link, and colored.

-Upon 100% completing the game, a special dungeon will be unlocked.

-Some of the original game script will be re-worded to make it more "modern".

If you have any other ideas or things you'd like to see, please suggest them here! :D

Discussion / Legend of Zelda: Legacy of Darkness

Legend of Zelda: Legacy of Darkness

Prologue -

Many centuries ago, according to legend, the land of Hyrule was invaded by usurpers, interlopers seeking the awesome power of the golden triangles.
The invaders possessed a dark power, a power that could do battle with the goddesses. However...this power alone could not grant the types of dreams that
the sacred triangles could. The leader of the usurpers, the King of Darkness, used his craft to create evil weapons, aiding his people in the invasion
of Hyrule. This is the Legacy of Darkness...

Basic Plot Structure -

Link currently resides alone in a distant part of Hyrule City. One day while practicing his swordsmanship with his master Swiftblade,
a messenger from Hyrule Castle arrives with a package for Link. Swiftblade dismisses the session for the day, and allows Link to open his
gift. Inside is a mirror, and a note from Princess Zelda. The letter is actually an invitation to her birthday party! But why did Link receive
a gift from Zelda if it's her birthday? It doesn't bother Link at the time though, because he is too excited for the party.
***The player should also be excited for the birthday party, but at the same time be suspicious. It is, after all, a perfect time for the usual
evil strike of Ganondorf or Vaati.

Princess Zelda has enclosed within the letter a time for Link to come to the castle--tomorrow right after his training with Swiftblade. Link's master
approves the letter, but is also suspicious of it. Swiftblade escorts Link to the shop to find a gift for Zelda--the mirror, if it came from her, would
not do as a proper gift. Therefore, Swiftblade loans Link some money and Link picks out a shield bearing the Hylian Crest. A perfect gift for Link's
childhood friend!

The next day, Swiftblade visits Link as he is about to leave and grants him a Trainee Sword--the very one Link used to train. Swiftblade tells Link about
his suspicions and explains that Link should have the sword with him at all times. After Swiftbade leaves, Link is free to go to Hyrule Castle.
***At this point the player won't know where the castle is. However, it should be easy to find as most of the roads leading elsewhere are blocked off
for the time being. Various signs along the way will also tell the player where to go, and what buttons do what.

What I've drafted so far. The game has gone through three redrafts already, and I think this one is best. (The others had a clone of LttP intro) Right now, I'm torn between LttP style and MC style. I have sufficient access to both styles, but I have more of LttP tiles and sprites finished already. (MC would probably look a lot better)

Thoughts/suggestions on the story? The usurpers in the beginning are not the Twili as suggested, but the Dark Tribe that was sealed in the Mirror of Darkness.

I discovered a good sounding midi file in my computer...must have gotten it somewhere, but I can't remember where. Anyway, it sounds epic in Anvil Studio because each of the instruments is 'pure' or something. But when I save it and play it in Windows Media Player, some of the instruments can't be heard well enough. Anyone know why this is happening?

Graphics / Hyrule Field (Night)
« on: November 29, 2008, 08:20:43 pm »
Well I thought I'd do a bit of work on Hyrule Field, so I took Hoffy's version and adjusted brightness and contrast, and then edited it a bit for the effects (gate is closed, etc)

Coding / OoT2D INI File
« on: November 11, 2008, 10:50:05 pm »
I made an ini file that I plan to use with my OoT2D project. I think I have pretty much everything that needs to be saved in here, but I shoved it into this topic anyway to get the opinions of ZFGC members. I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything before I started, because if I did then it'd be very hard to add in.

Discussion / The Legend of Zelda: The Enigma Scrolls
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:23:37 pm »
Note: Before reading, please remember that this is an idea only. It will not necessarily be turned into a game. Ocarina of Time 2D is already being worked on, and I do not wish to distract anyone with a new idea. That said, there are also many other OoT2D's being worked now, and since we are gathering resources only, I will also develop this idea and we will choose what happens when summer arrives.

The Legend of Zelda: The Enigma Scrolls

My story takes place in a distant land, not far from Hyrule. Link, after having met the Wind Fish and being at sea again, stumbles upon the seemingly deserted Enigma Isles, which were thought to be non-existant. Wandering for a time, Link eventually finds a small seaside beach house. The house is empty, but on the table is a letter dated not long ago.

Quote
I know not the person receiving this letter, but it is of ill fate that the bird shall deliver to you. The kingdom Hyrule has fallen, the Hero vanished. My father has been elimniated by a dark being, and myself imprisoned. By the fate of the Gods, you have been chosen. I know not the location of the remaining six, but their power is needed to save what is lost. Should my piece of Wisdom fail and is taken, then the Hero is in danger. The piece of Power and Courage will not remain hidden, not while the Dark Lord is here. Please, if you read this, you must find the seven Scrolls and inherit our power. For as long as there is fate, all is not lost.

Princess Zelda

^That taken from my own message board. Anyway, the idea was that someone would have received this message, but Link bumps into it while the new 'Hero' is out trying to find the scrolls. Link will take this quest at the same time the new 'Hero' is already working toward it. Later on in the story, Link will run into the new 'Hero' and that's when the conflict will begin.

Discussion / Ocarina of Time 2D Discussion
« on: October 21, 2008, 12:04:32 am »
No, this isn't really another game else it'd be in WIP. Just an OoT2D discussion. As we all know, there have been many attempts at the conversion from 3D to 2D, and there are many in progression now. But why do they seem to fail so much? Is it because of the programming, or graphics? Is it because of people trying to make a job too big?

I'd like to know what everyone expects from an OoT2D game now. If it were done in LttP style, would you expect some updated graphics to actually make it a more custom style (like TRM's), or would you be fine with the regular LttP tiles used cleverly to make better looking dungeons and areas?

If done in MC style, would you be fine with the original MC gfx, or expect a more custom style to this one too? (Xifixium)

« on: October 15, 2008, 11:41:33 pm »
Hey all! I know the majority uses GM, but I just wanted to ask for opinions. What would be better for making a Zelda game? (If you have never used MMF2 before, don't say GM ftw. Just say not sure, or what you think are GM's highest pros)

Thanks!
