What is a SC slot on a laptop?

I got a new laptop with a SC slot...It looks like it is like a credit card reader sized slot.  I wonder if you slide a security card into it or something.  I loaded Vista on the laptop and it is missing drivers for two unknown devices and the hp website doesn't help me.

I know, I posted two things in here but I wanted to kill two birds with one stone.

SC? I think its a Card format... you know like SD and stuff. Or wireless.....

It is at the upper left corner of the picture.  It is very very slim and about the size to slide a credit card in there.
