Title: Ocarina of Time 2D
Post by: Jeod on June 13, 2008, 04:23:42 pm
Yeah, I know it's been attempted many times, and failed. However, I'm not the type to give up. I have two people ready to work on it now; me and another guy called gamefreak202. We need an artist. We don't use game maker. We use Multimedia Fusion 2, and we have full versions. All we need is an artist. Right now, I'm looking at The Shadowgazer and I'm in awe. I would be honored if King Mob were to step up to the plate after he finishes his project.

However, the position is still open to anyone with artistic ability. Our sprites are in LttP style, and we have bits and pieces of things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I might be able to help. I'l got some art skills in Lttp style, it's not the best though.

EDIT: I can only do Characters, not backgrounds and tiles.

Are you sure you want to attempt this? I'm not trying to be mean. I'm the friendly guy here. Anyway, it would take so long to work on something like this. Why not make your own Zelda game with your own ideas? Again, I'm not trying to be mean, it's just that so many have been attempted but failed. But, if you are really motivated to do this project then I won't stand in your way. I'm just askings is all.

Most of the work involved will be the mapping. We only have Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods finished. We don't have Deku Tree tilesets, which we were looking for to get a demo out. Also, many of our sprites have yet to be animated or even cut out. (And we're missing a LOT)

Mike - Of course we're motivated! I want to prove that making OoT 2D is possible. Many people out there believe that it can't be done, or can only be done by Nintendo.

That's cool. Well, I guess I'll support you then. I can't really help you out with the project but I will support and that should help keep you motivated. Oh, and welcome to the forums! :)

I'm already a member of the forums, actually. My former username was TP12, but I forgot the password and the stupid email won't go through.

No thanks, I'll stick with this account. I prefer the name Jeod anyway.

Oh, I can easily tell you with 100% certainty that it is possible to recreate Ocarina of Time in two dimensions. The problem is, however, that the few people here with the development experience and skill required to do so, such as myself, King Mob, Infinitus, Windy, Chris, Mammy, and various other members, have projects that draw from our own creativity, and have no desire to waste our time creating a game that's already been created.

Okay... Nintendo is a company that has billions of dollars, many employees with college degrees that know very much about game design, which includes art, music, coding, and other things, and that have not only professional tools, but can also code using real programming languages. You are a team of 2 people using a bad game design tool with limited resources, and are redoing a whole entire professionally made game with one less dimension. You are insane.

I'd like to see some screenshots, or a website, or any scrap of evidence that this project even exists.

^this.

Oh, and shouldnt this be in Works in Progress or something anyway?
Oh wait, i suppose recruitment...

Anyway, good luck with this, but im on the list of people with doubts. If youre good enough to make a remake in 2D, itd be better to make your own... But good luck with this, and Id love to see you do it!

Not really in WIP since they have nothing to show for it.

Now that it's been about 10 years since the game came out, I think it might be possible. GO TRM! Jeod!
