So how do you make a PNG transparent?  I mean, I've been making images for years, but I've never actually known this <_<

Sorry if it's obvious, It's just something basic that I really need to know.

EDIT: By the way, I know how to do it in Photoshop, but I'm talking about with a normal PNG made in paint or similar program.

There is no such thing as a "normal PNG". If the program supports PNG transparency, it supports PNG transparency. There's no in-between.

Just open a PNG in an image editor that supports PNG transparency and make it transparent. Simple.

I don't know about Vista Paint, but XP no longer supports any type of transparency. '95 Paint supported saving with GIF transparency, but it didn't support loading or displaying images with transparency and didn't have any PNG support at all.

Do you have any programs you'd reccomend (as a replacement for paint) ?

Paint.NET is an excellent program and I also suggest it, it's just powerful enough but still simple and it also supports layers so give it a whirl

Image_Alpha ?

Damn it, Bistian, you're talking about making a sprite semi-transparent in GM6. He wants to know how to make can create an alpha channel for a PNG, and what software he can use to do so.

Jasc Paint Shop Pro 5, or higher. Cheap, but much more advanced than any other software you will find.
