I always see these posts.  I always feel either I'm extremely lucky or people are being idiots with the Xbox.  I've never had the red rings on either my brother's Xbox (4 years old) or mine (2 years old) or any other problems with it.

Mine worked for around 9 months before it happened the first time

We always keep it in an air conditioned room, never play it for too long.

God damn microsoft.

I went for about 2 years without problem, then a disc-drive failure, but it was out of warranty, so I had to pay for it.

After getting that fixed, I've gotten the RRoD THREE times.

At least they repair it pretty quickly now :P

I've had the red rings 3 times and it still works fine. You just got to unplug everything from the system and outlet and it should be fine. I've had mine for almost a year now.

At least they repair it pretty quickly now :P
That's probably because they do it all the time now and are used to it.

They probably refurbished yours instead of sending you a new one. I ended up with a new one =3

I'm serious. First time it happened, my brother called in and the guy just said to unplug everything. We did that and it worked again. Apparently, if you get the red ring with 1 red light, then it's done for.

Well... the red rings are system error codes... much like when you BSOD it gives you an error code.

Number of flashes, number of rings, where the rings are, etc are all factors in the error code. Just because you get one doesn't mean your system is done for.

That voids the warrenty, won't be doing that lol
I did it and my Xbox worked for another week.
Then I sent it in and they gave me a new one.
I've been good for over a year now.

<_< how does wrapping your Xbox in a towel and running it void the warranty exactly?

I don't know if it voids the warranty, but it's !@#$% stupid.

At a guess, I would say it misuse perhaps?
If you were to wrap it in a towel, blocking the air vents which may cause it to overheat and therefore suffer further damage.

They say that it voids it because it re-melts the processor to pretty much be back to normal or something like that.
That is just as bad as opening it and fixing it in their eyes.

That's what I guess anyway.

Well it's not stupid; what it does is act like a heat gun and softens the grease that causes issues to begin with. It only works for a little bit though, so it's a bit of a waste unless theres something you absolutely have to get done.
