That's a pretty wholesome game. I've been watching parts of the video and the dungeon puzzles aren't half bad either. Nicely done.

How long did this take you to build?

Thanks a lot. My game design ambitions outshine my coding skills, so I doubled down on puzzles and secrets. Nice to hear it mostly worked.

As for the timeframe, I honestly can't remember. Probably a year or a little more. That's back when I was in college, so I was able to sink a lot of time into it.

Thank you. That is like, so helpful.
I actually spent like, a year waiting to hear from you, and was on the discord looking for help.

It is a neat game. Makes use of its limitations to deliver something unique.

Oh, your message must've been lost in the shuffle. I would've responded had I seen it.

Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like it.

Hey guys, this topic is old, but I thought it might be a good idea to share a video I found.

https://youtu.be/KWaUTi_1pWw

I didn't make this, but whoever did went straight into my code to find most of Hall of the Dead's secrets. Pretty cool of them to give my little fan game such a nice spotlight. Anyway, since it's so thorough, this video doubles as a handy walkthrough if any past or future players get stuck.

Turn on annotations for commentary.

Hey guys, I know this topic is old, but I made some updates to the game so I figure it's worth a bump.

http://dayjo.org/uncannyvisions/hotd.html

That site has some background information and the new download link.

For anyone already familiar with the game, it was finished a long time ago... 2007 I think. Anyway, I was bored one day and decided to make some tweaks.

The game now plays in full screen, the "extra pearl" has been removed (now there are 100 to find as intended, instead of 101), certain areas have been simplified (less enemies mainly), and I've greatly reduced the number of hits the later bosses take.

The game still has glitches, but it's a much smoother experience than it was before. This is probably the last update... unless I think of something to fix another 8 years from now. :p

Actually, you got most of it.

P-Pause (pearls are displayed in the corner)
Z-Sword
X-Use item. I wasn't very good at coding, so the game uses a Four Swords style system where you only have one item at once.
Space-Talk/interact. This will work on all signs and people, but I know some require you to stand in just the right spot. Haha, again, I made this when I was a teenager. :p

I'd also like to offer the suggestion to save whenever you can. I have encountered some situations where I put too many enemies too close to walls and Link can get stuck sometimes. That's the main glitch to look out for.

2020 NEWS UPDATE:

A cool Youtuber made a (mostly) complete walkthrough. Refer to this video if you get stuck.

ORIGINAL POST:

I was an active member here like, iunno, 4 or 5 years ago... haha. Let me start by saying how great it is to see that ZFGC is still thriving!

Anyway, I've moved away from fan game design and into filmmaking (http://uncanny-visions.com  .../shameless plug) , but the other day I was searching through my hard drive and I found my completed Zelda adventure, Hall of the Dead!

I know there's a topic around here somewhere, but I figure it's way old, so why not make a fresh one?

LOZ: HotD isn't a masterpiece of game design, but it is DONE. It has 5 dungeons and a fair sized overworld. It shouldn't take anyone too long to beat, as long as they can figure out my devious puzzles mwa haha. Some older members might remember where to go.  :P

Download link is here: (Let me know if it doesn't work)

I beat Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask dozens of times. I beat Twilight Princess about 7 times. I beat Wind Waker...twice. I'd like to tell you that the Triforce quest goes faster the second time around, but I'd be lying. The ending is cool, but probably not worth TWO Triforce quests.

1) Majora's Mask - Stone Tower Temple
2) The Wind Waker - Molgera's Theme
3) Twilight Princess - Beast Ganon
4) A Link to the Past - Dark World
5) Ocarina of Time - Water Temple

Uhhh, trying to pick from a variety of games.

If not for Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, this would be the best song ever.

Haha utterly epic...ridiculously epic! Nooooooo! Love it.

Pikmin has more killing than most FPS games I've played...it's just nothing is human and there isn't really any blood, but still, so much friggen' violence (which is the way I like my Pikmin).

Hey nobody would complain if this had Jim Carrey...but it doesn't so naturally, everybody's complaining. A revival with the man himself could work, it hasn't been THAT long, but this is just lame. I kinda feel sorry for the kid, does he even have an idea how many mean remarks are coming his way?

Actually, I think it's one of the funniest shows on TV. Unlike the Simpsons, King of the Hill has retained a focus on plot and character while still delivering the laughs. It's not a gag a minute, but the comedy is there.

Haha the new Indiana Jones movie referenced this campaign.

"Any last words Dr. Jones?"
"I like Ike."

But yeah, pretty catchy stuff. The elephant is a nice touch too.

I own the cart, so not a huge deal, but I am taking this opportunity to recall how much I enjoyed the game. I mean, it wasn't too Mario-ish, but the combat system was great for an RPG and I adore the music and atmosphere. Also, some of the later enemy designs are trippy genius: a giant cake monster? Evil carrots? A mechanical cobra? You just don't see that kind of stuff very often.

If you have any interest in the X-Files or FPS games...or both, I suggest you try Area 51. Definitely one of the better multi-platform shooters.

I miss the days of Airplane and the Naked Gun. You know, back when spoofs were actually funny.

If people just bought Earthbound when it came out on the SNES, it would have established itself as a profitable franchise and Nintendo would be all over it. But you know what? People didn't buy it, and it never caught on. Whether or not it's a good game, it's now more of a cult release in North America and fans should be happy with what they have. You don't see me calling Square hoping that they'll make E.V.O 2 or Rockstar Games asking for a Space Station: Silicon Valley sequel. I don't blame Nintendo for not porting Mother 3, they need to make money, and they probably figure the few copies it will sell won't be worth the effort to localize it.

Pikmin 1 and 2 (seriously I beat the first game over 30 times)
Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2
Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Sunshine
