Title: [Demo] The Crystal of Gidna
Post by: TomPel on April 01, 2006, 05:41:03 am
(http://xs511.xs.to/xs511/07031/Title_screen.png)

At first, i'll give you the long history of my project

HISTORY

The project started as "Return Of The Hero" June 2005 and the resolution was 640x480. I used the normal lttp link, with some modifications. I had that name for 3 months maybe? And then i realized that the name didn't suit the game very good, so...
Project got renamed again. Now it was called "Waters Of The Past", but that name stuck only for few months also. Then i started creating the story, and i found the best name for it:
Crystal Of Gidna
The graphics got updated significantly many times, resolution got changed to 256x224 and the engine was almost fully redone at this stage.

Okay, now that the history SHOULD be clear, i'll tell you a bit about the mainstory of CoG.

STORY

It was told, that there once was a powerful artifact hidden somewhere on the island Gidna. It was called Crystal Of Gidna. Only few know the story behind the crystal.
Long ago...
When the island was ruled by the darkness itself
Two wizards, an apprentice and master, appeared and they used a spell to capture the evil inside a crystal, where it was never to be found.
The crystal was hidden by the King and no other man knows its location.

100 years later, a hooded man came to the castle. He wanted the king to reveal the crystals location. King refused to answer, so the man killed him and left without a trace.

"Who was that man?"
"What happens to the island?"
"Why did the hooded man try to find the crystal?"

You'll see that later.
The team? You got it!

THE TEAM

TomPel: The one who started it all. Sprites, codes, tiles etc.
.TakaM: Beta-tester!

Okay, now that you know the guys behind this, here are the other guys behind it!

CREDITS

Yoshi: Rupee-engine
.TakaM: Several tiles, help with the titlescreen, areas, Link-sprites, HUD-buttons etc.
cb43569: Ripped the moon in the titlescreen.

Now, from all the guys behind the scenes, to the screenshots!

If you get an error like that its a problem with your PC most of the time. GM6 doesn't really like old PC's. :P

Ok, i have made little progress. Fixed the strange bug and adding all the sound/music files external. Now the .exe is about 50% smaller! And about the demo... I apologize for not releasing it yet. I just want it to be perfect :)

Take your time, TomPel. Don't be pressured to rush, because then you'll make mistakes. I'd rather have a much better demo at a later time, then a worse demo sooner.

Good luck!

Good idea. You should also make maps and sprites external to make it even smaller and 1 second loading times. If you can make code external to but the makes the game lag.

Yeah, i try not to make everything external. And if i would make my codeings external, it would be too easy to steal my work etc.

If someone doesn't know what that whirlwind is, it's a whirlwind which you can unleash with an item called "Wind Orb". It will be very useful in the game :). Anyways, as you can see, i have redone and polished the game very much lately. The demo is VERY near to be released. Within this week, i'll send the demo to my beta-testers and get it checked. After that, i'll release it to the public. Sorry for pushing the release date further away so many times. But you can say i'm a perfectionist, nothing's good enough for me ;)

But I was wondering if you are going to have any new tools, other than the classics (classics=hookshot, slingshot, hammer etc...).

Yeah, plenty. That's what i'm aiming for: Something classic and something original! Some are planned already, but many places are free. So, if someone gets an idea for an item, just tell me, and i consider of adding it into CoG ;)

That whirlwind isn't a boomerang, but the "WindOrb", which will be useful in some puzzles. I'll add two orbs more, which will be yet to be revealed. Anyways, ideas for items?

Why don't you make a rod that can change the flow of water?  Like have a dungeon you can only go to when the tide is high, or in a dungeon have a flow of water that keeps a door shut, but when you reverse the flow the door opens and another one closes.

Yes.. that is a very good one..
and how about: when using a little magic, you could blast water out of the rod  :D

I have an suggestion (Uh-OH)

This was to be in Rising Darkness, but I thought not

Gravity Boots!

You can stick to the walls to avoid pits and traps, etc. Also to get switches out of reach.

Hmm... Not bad idea at all, though i gotta think of a way to implement it. I've finished the boat sailing-system, which has some nice wave-effect. You can sail from island to island with it (kinda like in Windwaker). Oh, and the first dungeon is also finished (with boss and everything), though i gotta fix few bugs in it. And to the best news, i changed few stuff so there are no slowdowns anymore. The game runs at stable 60fps!

Only thing I don't like is the fact that the camera "sprite/icon" stays on the screen when you save the screen. It should be minimal work to hide it before you save the screen, I suggest you do it. Otherwise, this is looking better with each new update.

I don't know why, but the non-stored sprites and sounds don't load, thus giving me hella errors. :( But I would like to say that from the screens, I think you should either emulate a smoother sprite style ala your logo or make your logo a little less smooth ala your sprites. :P Also, that loading bar is the classiest thing ever. The rotating ZFGC bit is spifffy as hell too.

Nice demo, I saw a few problems though, firstly some grammer was wrong people kept saying i instead of I and youre instead of you're or your. I also found a bug that made me unable to move Link. I rolled into the pots in the second room in links house and ended up pushing against the grey tile beneath it indefinitly, I had to restart the game. other than that its excellent! Keep up the good work.

strangely, this game chopped ALOT on my 1400mhz 1GB ram...
i wonder why
i also got stuck once when i tried throwing a jar i lifted, actually it was right in the beginning
and for the record, its annoying to have to endure the whole intro everytime i start the game
you should make a key to escape the sequence

other than that, pretty good so far
keep up the good work

This is the best Zelda Fangame I have ever played. I love the WW-style graphics. however, I still get sound errors :P Downloaded the new demo, but I still get the errors. However, at the point where the wizard goes to the gate, I get no more errors. So, I dunno why. But there's still no sound. I really, really love where the evil dude cuts off the ends of the spears and zaps the guards. That was brilliantly done. but I did find a bug. If you hold down a by a pot, Link immediately smashes it, but continues to strain to pick it up, and then just stays like that forever.

EDIT: I noticed two things now. The sprites and sounds seem to load fine, but I get errors telling me the sounds don't exist. I don't get any sound loading errors, but I still get errors when they try to play.

Your spriting is really good. I just don't like the music choice very much, it doesn't really fit in with the game at all. And I don't love .takam's HUD - I never did. But whatever, everything else still looks really good.

Also : THERE DESPERATELY NEEDS TO BE A WAY TO SPEED UP CUTSCENES OR SKIP THROUGH THE TEXT. I read much faster than the text scrolls out, I'd die if I have to read that every time I started a new game.

Umm... No, this is my first and propably the last fan-game i'm making. The lighting-thing is made by scooternew.
Anyways, i'm trying to finish the rest of the overworld (thanks to .TakaM) and add all the houses and bushes and pretty much everything (implementing), before i continue the mainquest itself.
It's strange, that this game has lasted so long and i haven't lost the inspiration yet. When i'm about to, i'll just take little break and after that, i usually get the inspiration back. Just a little advice to you guys.
Ummm... Yeah, expect the next demo around christmas or in the next z3. Not sure what it'll include, but time will tell.

Dayjo @ Yeah, i though so... I'll have TRD remove it asap. Thanks for informing

I like it but I dunno if it's possible but maybe when you use the camera link goes into a stance where he's taking a picture, then you could make the photo box on the screen smaller and then whereever it goes link points in that direction. I could make a screen if you don't get what I'm saying.

Hi TomPel! This game is avesome(according to the pics I've seen), how many % of the game is ready? I'd love to test the demo, but it won't work. I put my problem in Finnish, because it's hard to tell it in English.

Eli kun k??ynnist??n pelin pikakuvakkeesta CoG_Demo02. Latauspalkki tulee esiin normaalisti, mutta palkin t??yttyess?? ruutuun tulee teksti "Unexpected error occurred when running the game". Mist?? t??m?? voisi johtua? Olisi mahtavaa p????st?? kokeilemaan peli??.

And same (shortened) in English:
When I start playing demo it starts to load game normally, but when loading icon goes away computer says "Unexpected error occurred when running the game". Can anyone help me?

Sorry for my bad English. I'm just very sleepy, I haven't slept for 3 days. I promise to write better English from no-on.

When I start playing demo it starts to load game normally, but when loading icon goes away computer says "Unexpected error occurred when running the game". Can anyone help me?

Sorry for my bad English. I'm just very sleepy, I haven't slept for 3 days. I promise to write better English from no-on.

//
How do you guys want the screenshots saved, with or without the camera-overlay?

I like the first one better, the one witch has the camera-overlay.
Well... I'm no expert in these things, but i could imagine it's because your computer just can't run gm6-games (don't ask why, 'cause i don't know).
Propably because of directx. I've had many complaints, that they can't run the demo so i'm trying to find out why.
Also, the demo eats HUGE amount of memory, so that also might have something to do with it.
Ja kiva n??hd?? t????l muitaki suomalaisii!

maybe you should make an item menu tutorial or example, becuase I need one like yours :D
This is a great game, but it lags a little.
what program did you make this with?

Again, with gamemaker. AND i've fixed the lagging in my gmd, so next demo should be WAY better in every aspect.

*Whew* thanks. Becuase it started off fine every time I played it, and then when I got control, it started lagging unbelievably - and got worse every few seconds. ALso, sometimes I got an error with rolling - a soudn doesn't exist. Sometimes I didn't. Weird.

Anyway - I was just wondering - what is causing the lag? And when is the prospected released date for the next demo?

I have a fairly good idea at what was causing it. (A total guess but it does make a bit of sence.) I believe that Tompel tried to stop the sound errors by loading a resource in a repeated event ex: Room start, Step, etc or loaded a sound multiple times without deleting it.  (Which would explain why that sounds only worked some of the time. The time that that event was called was when the sounds worked.)

To test my theory, put a sprite/sound/background_add in the step event. After a few minutes, it will lag like hell.

My theory is probaly not true but it does fit in place....

Ok, this week the progress has been very slow, because of school and exams etc, so i apologize for that.
I'll try to finish the overworld this weekend.
Don't remember what caused the lagging, but it's now fixed (fps may drop to 54 for a sec, but it always jumps back to 60).

Nice, I love the titlescreen, but I think the text for "Crystal Of Gidna", could use some work. Mainly the "outline", not sure if it's one or not, at some parts of the text it's barely noticeable (like on the bottom of the 'C' curve), and at others it really stands out a lot. You could try to make it more even.
The ingame shot is alright, I like the graphics you're using, nothing too impressive though. Keep it up!

Now that you mention it, it does look kinda like "Grystal of Gidna" (http://www.zfgc.com/forum/Smileys/Emotionalink/xd.gif) (sorry for linking the image, but I'm not sure what the code for that emoticon is >_>).

I won't release a demo before christmas, that's for sure. Too many things to do.
Ok, now i would like to ask all of you guys one question:

"What would YOU like to see in Crystal of Gidna?"

Every idea is welcome, so please keep 'em coming! An item, dungeon or character maybe?

More interactive enviorments. So far, every fan game on ZFGC (Except CoD) has had minimum to no interactive enviorments. Being able to pick up things on the ground that have nothing to do with the actual game is alot better then nothing.

Yes, that is very good suggestion and will be implemented to the game.
Damn, i've been so lazy i haven't finished the overworld yet! >.<
But, that's my main priority at the moment, so i should just kick my ass and start doing something. (I'm not that motivated as a tiler... >__>)

A new method of fighting. Horseback combat has been done or planned, on-foot is obvious, WW did shooting people from a boat. I think you should implement something, maybe combos, who knows, that'll give a new experience with combat in the game at some point. Perhaps arrows that can fly a certain distance, but you can set what direction they go in or where their final destination is in order to pick off enemies from afar. I don't know, but that would be wonderful.

More combos is a good idea, though i don't think they would help in fights. I already have somekind of combo, which isn't anything big, but it's something.
I'll just add more combos then i quess ;).
Damn, The Rod of Leehna was a perfect example of innovative thinking.
Wish i can add things as good as it had

If CoD is my game you're talking about, cloud of darkness, thanks for mentioning it. I have always considered interactive enviroments important in games, as they help make the game seem more real and lifelike, not completely static so all you can do is collide with them. I also have tried to make all the things you can do in MC, plus more, and I am now working on a system I call the HIS (Hylian Invention System) which has around 50 construction elements to build weapons and other items needed to progress in the game.

I also just played the demo, its pretty cool I love the way you have your own costum link and sprites and stuff, But the games doesn't look any thing like the screenies to bad.
further so of the thigns are a ltitle off, like the bottle self should be move more up, and the bottles are a bit off to,
and I also have to agree on the speed, I think you should makle it a little faster
what I did like as I said was the sprites, I also love the last heart that it turnes, and I love it when ou roll you see sand waves behind you, GENIUS.
O and a qeustion, some times the music goes really bad, is that just my pc or is that a little error ??

Well, like I said before, propably sometime around christmas. I can't promise anything, but that's my goal at the moment.
About the music messing up... I guess it's because of the lag.
I've had some bad luck with music, because one guy promised to make some songs for me and i haven't heard of him in ages.

Well, the progress has been little slow. I haven't got any songs yet and I've been kinda waiting for the overworld theme to get finished.
Of course there are some new things added, but overall the progress has been slow.
I've been trying to progress with the storyline (I got the whole idea clear, but not very detailed story).

Why is that?
I got permission to use those areas with .TakaM's blessing.
I just make good use of the resources that we're no longer used.
It's still more original than the ones that only use Nintendo's tilesets and sprites, that aren't even edited etc.
I respect your point of view, but I just can't understand why you think that.

I'm not saying you didn't. Everyone can use those sprites now I believe.

I just make good use of the resources that we're no longer used.

Yeah, but they are not your design.

It's still more original than the ones that only use Nintendo's tilesets and sprites, that aren't even edited etc.

Yes, that's true. But everything you make yourself can also be more original. Which is pretty much the idea behind fangaming.

I respect your point of view, but I just can't understand why you think that.

It could be just the idea that I hate recycling sprites and tiles from other games. Even when I start I new game I usually start from scratch and such.

Title: Re: The Crystal Of Gidna *Questbook added to the site*
Post by: Kleaver on January 19, 2007, 01:23:46 pm
its not a big deal kleaver, even if all fangames use the areas I doubt even one of them would get finished

Haha, true that  ;D
But I find the fangaming on itself a hobby and something to put creativity in. Who cares if I finish it? After I partially made a game I usually learned so much.  :)
Title: Re: The Crystal Of Gidna *Questbook added to the site*
Post by: TomPel on January 19, 2007, 02:10:57 pm
... you know what? I'll reveal this one secret to you.
My first priority is to finish this game. Whether I like it or not, I'm gonna finish it.
I'm so sick of unfinished fangames!
Making this game is a hobby for me too, but I'm planning on finishing it, not to learn from it.
So yeah, some may think my motives are wrong, but if that gets first real Zelda fangame done, I don't see anything wrong with that.
"Who cares if I finish it?"
... Pretty much everyone here, I'd say. It's like a painting, there is nothing joyful in a unfinished painting.
What is the point of making games, if you make unfinished games, so you can make more unfinished games? Why not make one good and finished game?
So... What I'm trying to say is, I take every help I can get to finish CoG.
What I use is still creative, even if someone else uses the same stuff.

... you know what?
Damn straight, Tommy Pel. Don't take that !@#$%, finish this fan game and finish it good!

I hope to see this fan game completed one day. ZFGC really needs something to boast about.

I know exactly what you mean. So many people stop their games midway through, it's depressing. It's good that you've learned something, but actually finishing the game feels really good; a true sense of accomplishment that motivates you to make another game. (Also, you might build a fanbase, which will serve as more motivation.)

I really hope you finish this project. People that finish what they start are cool. =p

Post by: TomPel on February 14, 2007, 08:20:45 pm
Some of you might think why I haven't posted any progress in some time now.
Well, I just feel overworked at the moment, school, life, problems etc.
I've lost my motivation to continue on this...
BUT no worries, I don't mean I'm quitting this! By no means!
I mean, that at the moment, I need time for other things.
Working alone in a project this big chews the last of me, and I seriously need a break.
This is NOT the last of CoG... You'll see.

Tom... wow.
I can't believe... it's just...
wow.
The scenery is absolutely breathtaking... If the lines in the tiling's were gone, it'd be absolutely-breathtakingly amazing. For me, Scenery and tiling is what most of the magic in a game is about, and this just blew me away.
The gameplay was real nice as well, and it's a shame you've lost interest... some people just need a little more than personal interest, because making a game can sometimes now be a lot of fun. I hope you do continue this.
So far all your effort has been shown, and it's amazing.
Good Job.

Today, I just had an urgent need to finish the boat's new particle system with Goodnight's help :P
(Couldn't leave it alone)

Needs some details and adjustments, but it's pretty much done now.

lol, and I'm also going to change that boat to something more... Well, something that fits the perspective better and looks better.
Already working on that (with .TakaM's help, of course :D).
Yeah, maybe it's too white, I gotta work more with choosing the right shade of blue...
Thanks.

:), maybe you could even use like a different "shape" like a more wispy/cloudy/foamy thing. I'm too much of a perfectionist though unfortunately :P some things just aren't worth doing.. but still, that might look nice :P

Are you planning on sprucing up the water a bit too?

Hey Tom, just wondering how the boat system currently works. With the screenshots of your particle system, I thought it'd look nicer if the boat made actual ripples in the water as it moved and stopped.

That would be extremely difficult to make.
Here's how the boat works:
When you press right or left, the boat rotates, and when you press up, the boat accelerates.
Though I've been planning on adding some details to the waves, I'm not sure if it's gonna be anything that big.

My suspicion is that if you did figure it out, it would seem ridiculously simple afterwards. And since your boat looks like it's not exactly a motorboat, like you said, it'd be a nice touch that'd add a lot. But do what you like.

Oh, and about that, KORL is just a placeholder at the moment. He WON'T appear in the actual game.
The trailer was made quite quickly, so it won't be the greatest, but it does show something.
The FPS is slow, because the program I used to record the trailer (FRAPS) slowed the game down when recording.

I know a trick for SnagIt that allows you to use it past it's trial period... I don't know if I can post it here <_<

It's more of a glitch - you don't edit any files or change the date, just click a few things in the program.

I almost got to play the demo. I saw the intro and stuff, but then I couldn't play it.  :'(
Don't worry, part 1 should be fully playable for the most of the gamers (bugs fixed, along with many other things).
I'll have it tested with many computer, older and newer, to make sure everyone can play it.
Getting tired of getting all those comments about the demo not working, so I'm gonna make sure part 1 works :D
That's great! :D The screens look awesome, btw.

If you're alright with the game being in GM7, I can help. I have a two week holiday starting from now, and nothing to do until OoL's design is moreso completed. I only have GTalk and MSN (email in sig) for contact. Just realise that when the two weeks are up, school resumes, so I will only be able to work on it weekends.

Hey er, when do I start working? =P.
Damn, sry about that dude.
Well, I might as well as tell why there hasn't been much progress these weeks.
I had to reformat my PC, due I couldn't get it to open.
I uploaded the .gm6 to my PC little before the crash, so there are only some very little things to redo again.
The music and external backgrounds on the other hand didn't survive, along with all my custom made WIP sprites. That isn't a big problem, because I can get the music from net again, and the external backgrounds should be easily redone/found.
So, again, I apologize about this taking so long.
But but but, you'll see CoG in z3. How much from it, I don't know. But most likely a demo or a huge trailer AT LEAST.
And AoDC, I'll just PM you...
EDIT: And the site is updated.

You mean the sprite? It's by .TakaM, but it's a placeholder, it will be replaced by a normal boat.

Game Maker games can't go on the DS. They'd have to re-write it from scratch, which I doubt anyone would want to do for no profit. :P

Porting this game to DS wouldn't work, it's impossible, because it's done with gamemaker.
And thanks guys for all those comments. I really appreciate them.
On topic : Looks great, can't wait.

Well, just found it somewhere. It's from "Michael Jacksons Moonwalker"-game, a game for Sega Genesis.
About z3, I just haven't got enough done to show it there. Progress has been slow, because these last weeks of school have just been so damn busy and I just haven't got the time to work on CoG that much.
I'll propably add more speed to the progress when summer vacation starts.
Thank you.

MJ Moon Walker was actually a pretty fun game, if you ignore the fact that you play as Micheal Jackson.

But the plot was hilarious!

Ok, I'm just informing that this game is not dead, though the progress might have been for some time (pretty much all summer).
Anyways, scooternew is working with the Lava Cathedral boss and I'm working on all the general stuff. I've been improving the gameplay, so the game should run faster and more stable, along with some other stuff.
I've been kinda unsure of how this game will work overall and which features are and aren't needed, but the whole thing starts to come more visible to me.
I'll post a new screenshot within this week propably.

i'd ask why gm6 is supposedly better than gm7 in all other aspects then, seeing as they're both the same but gm7 has more and better refined stuff behind the scenes, but then the topic would go quite off topic :/

yea, that's the way it should be.

but when you look out of a fast moving train, the trees nearby are moving way faster than the ones far away ... so I'd say it should be tha same here or at least they should scroll at the same speed.

Bytheway *never postet here before* this game looks promising, also played the demo and loved it. This moving-eye-thingy that creeps the forest guys out - hilarious!  XD

And the demo is SO very old, so things have changed a lot. For the better, of course. ;P
You keep talking about the "SO very old" demo ;) When will the next demo come? So you can prove the people who thinks the old demo sucks, that you can do a lot better! :)
I suck at giving dates, but it shouldn't take too long. Scooternew is still working on the boss, so I haven't been doing a lot lately, mainly optimizing the code.
Like said before, I'll propably release the game in 3 episodes/parts.

That's awesome.
By the way, I tried the demo...but after I pick a file a song plays and the screen stays black and nothing comes up...it gets stuck there...I don't know why. So I can't try the demo.
But judging by the screens this seems to be awesome.

Well, when I first released the demo, I had many complaints about some bugs, that I myself never got. The one you described could be one of them.

I wouldn't worry about it. I myself am very critical about how the areas should look like.
And I don't see myself as such a bad tiler/spriter. And if .TakaM ever has the time or will, I could ask him for some help. :P

I ran in to a problem with the latest demo.  I started a new game, then it started the story and all it said was, "Long ago..."  then I pressed "A" and I think it was supposed to continue with the story, though it just went black, but the music kept playing and the game didn't seem to be locked up or anything.  I tried it twice and I even waited for a couple minutes, but it did the same thing.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I blows my mind to see a game still around after 2 years, congrats that you haven't let it die. I'm still gonna say though that the graphics still for some reason bug me, namely the grass and the HUD buttons. The grass pattern just seems a bit too overly repetitive for my tastes and really conflicts with the relative smoothness of everything else around it, I'd suggest maybe going with an FSA style overlay for the grass if your still looking for a little bit of added texture. Now its the HUD buttons that really are kinda eh... to me. They are much to geometric for the surroundings. If you look at everything around it, it all has rounded, organic shapes. Currently now when you look at the screen shots your eye is automatically draw to the buttons because their angular nature just stands out so much. The audience should be drawn to the action, not the buttons. If there is a way to round them out and maybe try to match their color to scheme of the hearts and magic meter it'll look 20x better.

Wow that was a long post lol but please continue the work, seeing things come back like this makes me believe one day a full Zelda fangame may be finished to completion after all.

Thanks CA. It's nice having a long and constructive post. Don't have many of them in this thread.
I'm not sure about the HUD, I think it fits there. If it becomes a major problem, then I'll just replace it. :P
And about the grass.. Yeah, it's a little repetitive. I'll see what I can do to fix it.

So, I took a long break from CoG, but I've gained my motivation back a little. The full storyline and dialog hasn't progressed much, but the gameplay has been improved.
I would be more than glad to release a new demo after so long period of time, but I don't want to rush it. There are still very unexpected and strange bugs (like the HUD disappearing when Link rides the horse  :-[) that I have to fix and I'd like to release a demo that has something interesting to do and more about the storyline, not just a chance to test the gameplay.
I just wanted to inform that CoG is far from dead. It would be awesome if some of you skilled programmers and spriters could lend me a hand with this one. It has become a pretty massive project. :P

Excluding the boat, this is by far the sexiest lttp eye candy ever! Well done Tompel! You have outdone yourself yet again!

The HUD buttons always bothered me because of their shape. Not exactly sure why though, it just hurts my eyes (shades 8)). However, the rest is stunning! Wow! :o

I dunno, I've always liked the HUD. :D
Been thinking about releasing some kind of demo, but there are some pretty strange bugs that I'm not sure what are causing them. For example, when the player is about in the middle of the room (in x-axis), the view starts to shake a bit. And when you're in the right side of the room and you go to a room above, it screws the x-position by about 16 pixels where the player is supposed to be created in the new room. But when in the left side of the room, everything works fine.
It's making me crazy :P

I always liked the HUD myself. :) I wouldn't change it. Yessss demo, that would be good.

I like the shape of the buttons, but I think they corners would look better if they were curved...

Otherwise this looks absolutely awesome.

Curved? Maybe that's what it needs to look good to me. Either way, it appears that I'm really the only one who really doesn't like them, so it's probably not a big deal.

And yes yes YES, a demo please! ^_^

Have you tried making a camera object that "chases" Link as he moves? For example; make an object (objCamera or something); in it's Create event, put "target = objLink" and in it's Step event, put move_towards_point(target.x, target.y, (distance_to_object(target)/2)).

Make all of your views follow that object. It should eliminate that shaking, since it's a somewhat constantly moving object. That's usually eliminated that sort of issue for me anyway. It's pretty fun too because you can modify the division to make it go slower or faster, or change the target to focus on opening doors and such.

... You're going to be waiting a long time.

This thread hasn't had any activity in over 6 months. Might want to read the rules/translate the rules/at least aknowledge that there are rules/use common sense/etc before reviving an old thread :)

Textbox-template by Calvein. It's gonna change in time, but for now it'll do :P
Not so much done, except the whole engine has now been improved. :P The old one used to consume a LOT of memory and it had some unknown memory-leaks. But now the whole thing has been redone, and memory consumption has been in mind while programming. So far so good! In couple of weeks I've done more than I could with the old "engine" in that time. It's pretty much in the same stage as I left it, in exception of the useable items (hookshot, bow, pictobox etc. )

You might notice a few new improvements from the screenshots. First of all I've changed the resolution from 256x224 to 320x240. It suits the normal computer monitors better. And of course you might notice that the bomb explosion is a bit closer to the one from Windwaker. It's still a work in progress, but the screenshots will give you an idea of what I'm going after. Not much other visual changes you might notice.

The story will be pretty much the same, except of some little changes. Or so it seems for now. We'll see... :P
Wish me luck guys. As for the tiles and areas, I have to give thanks .TakaM. My inspiration for this game I guess, which I've gained back after a long time.

Much love :

It's dead, sadly.  It looks so good, and I never got to play the demo (It crashes on start up for some reason), but I really wish it would be continued.  :c
