IPod Video Question

This may not be the right place but...

what format does a video have to be to download to an IPod Video?  I've tried every type of file but none work.  It is a special file type?  It it is, could someone supply me with a link to a converter?

They have to be .mp4 files, and here is my favorite converter: http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/

I've put advent children, and some south park on my Ipod now ;P

put ipodlinux onto it :D It pwns: you can play quake and gameboy(color) games with it.
