Why not provide some information that's useful, rather than just posting absolutely nothing about your project?

Yeah, more information other than the portal thing would be nice.

Hell, even more details about the portal system, which I assume is supposed to be the unique part of this fan game, would suffice.

Post by: GANONSLAY3R on August 07, 2008, 08:38:32 pm
The Portal
with the portal you will be able to create portals anywhere up to a certain distance, which will improve has you play the game.
you will be able to throw rocks, bushes, your boomerang, enemies will be able to go through and ethan redirect boulders where you like.

So in other words... Portal: Zelda Edition.

Ganon's minions would like to remind you that the weighted companion rock cannot speak. In the event that it does speak, we urge you to disregard it's advice.

...

ANYWAY... This sounds like an interesting enough concept for a Zelda game. Also it oddly it doesn't seem like it be too far fetched for that universe lol I just want to see a proof of concept demo going here one of these days, it would be fun to mess around with. Good luck!

Ive now change the title to The Ring of Thieves, witch sounds a lot better now then the old title.
you will have the ring on permanently so you do not have to go in the sub menu to keep changing items.

heres some uses that you can use the portal for so far..

use 1
you will be able to move any moving boulder you like thats around you, and then you can then use it to kill enemies, smash any fence you see to open up secrets (or just for fun) and block any moving fire balls.

use 2
use it to drop enemies down holes or to just trap them in closed off areas.

use 3
transport your self anywhere around the screen (in dongens there will be special wall you can not go through).

use 4
move pushable blocks to where you like.

use 5
you can throw your boomerang, bushes, rocks etc.... to reach certain places.

more coming soon

Not quite what I meant by information on it. I was referring to the more technical details related to it, such as how you intend to work it.

Pretty good walking engine. But why is it just walking? I thought your engine had other stuff too. Still, pretty good I guess.
also, is your game running at 30 FPS? You should set it to 60, it makes for much nicer, easier-on-the-eyes movement.

That was mildly impressive. But why didn't you just put it on Youtube instead of MegaUpLoadOfCrap?

Also, Link's voice sounds really odd in that video. Like you recorded it with a bad microphone. Are you using the soundclips from HelpTheWretched's site? If might just be the video.

Anyways, this project looks really clean and crisp. Keep it up.

progress update

new sword engine  -  90%
about the new sword engine - works in 2 stages at first by pressing z continuesly. you will start filling up the bar everytime you use your sword (will go up faster when you kill enemy's) once the bar is full it will start flashing to let you know you can now use the 3rd stage by pressing z continuesly on the 2nd stage, This will unleash a big spin that will create a ring of fire that will destroy all enemy's on the screen.

sub-menu  -  100%
item and equipment  -  30%

It sounds like you're thinking outside the box a bit, can't wait to see it in action. I hope you go back to the portal idea, it sounds really fun and would make for some good puzzle action.

Looks very nice :D
Few things though:
Seem to be able to do things such as show/hide the mini map (well you can't see it, but you can hear the sound and change its hidden/shown state) and drop bombs maybe while the sub-menu? is up
Also, when you go out of your house and head straight down, theres some step like things. I suppose it's a design feature, but maybe link should slow down a tiny bit when walking down/up such things?
Oh, also it changes from day to night/night to day in an instant? :(

Just a few things that may be making a perfectly great game just a bit less perfect :P

Forgive me for not reading all of this post but I have only just really started reading these forums and have little time to catch up, although I did read the initial post.

Firstly I would like to say I am very impressed with your staged sword technique. Its the first time I've seen something like that on these forums and I must admit it looks very cool. As for the storyline I wouldn't rush into creating one. It seems a lot of people have a tendency to create an amazing storyline when they cannot code the game. It would appear that you can code the game but have yet to think of a storyline, which is a good position to be in.

I wish you luck with this, I'll be checking back to read up on it soon.

I'm having the same problem as MaJoRa.

This game looks like it's got alot of potential though! I love the way the sword engine looks and works -- it's very original and it's not something you see in just any fangame.

Oh and, congrats on winning the PotM! :) Keep it up!
