Basically keeps track of warnings.

Verbal warnings are now Warning Level 1
2nd warning is 2, so on so forth.

This mod allows you to give visual warnings in four stages:
  1) First warning - instant message and a green warning mark next to user name.
  2) Post moderation - the user's posts must be approved before they are seen.
  3) Mute - instant message and the inability to post polls or messages.
  4) Ban - user is gone.

It's like a 3 strikes your out system. Warnings may expire; however if they do not and you're at level 3, an administrator will review your previous warnings and determine if a warning needs to be revoked, or if a ban is in order.

It's really no different than the "honor system" we had before, but now it's more organized and set in stone with some real consequences for causing trouble.

Some more current warnings have been applied to the mod, however depending on the attitudes of those users they will probably get revoked quick.

Remember: Warning level 1 is being treated as the "Verbal" warning.

I should also note-

We may work on shifting the warnings a bit;

instead of
  1) First warning - instant message and a green warning mark next to user name.
  2) Post moderation - the user's posts must be approved before they are seen.
  3) Mute - instant message and the inability to post polls or messages.
  4) Ban - user is gone.

we'd have
  1) First warning - Verbal.
  2) Second warning - Second verbal warning.
  3) Post moderation - the user's posts must be approved before they are seen.
  4) Ban - user is gone.

but Infini is busy XD

Sounds pretty good. Fine for the people who don't get in trouble.

Trouble for people who do get in trouble ;)

I like this new system. Although, how much would you have to do to rank up in the warning system?

Or how badly you break the rules.

Or past history.

And impartiality goes out the door.

We hold these truths to be self evident--objectivity is a lie.

It's pretty cut and dry.

"Don't break the rules". They're easy enough to follow. Pretty much everyone who was warned already did it deliberately anyway.

Don't break the rules is one of the broadest statements you could possibly make, especially when the rules have never been made cut and dry.

They have been. It's a sticky in this board. It's called "Forum Rules."

   * Posting any unsolicited messages: Advertisements, Chain Letters or similar content is prohibited and will result in an immediate ban.
   * Excessively use phrases, fads, memes or words will result in punishment, depending on use.
   * Messages containing "Spoilers" will result in punishment. Please use the "Spoiler" tag.
   * "Rent-a-Modding" is not allowed. Please use the "Report Post" function to notify moderators of a post or message.
   * Use common sense. If you think you might be breaking the rules, you probably are. Remember to ask if you are unsure.

Other statements and notes:

   * ZFGC may contain mature content at times, this board is not recommended for users under the age of 14.
   * Debating with moderators, publicly, will be classified as a public disturbance and drama creation, which will fall under either flaming or trolling, in some instances both. Please listen to moderators, if you have an issue consult another moderator or administrator.
   * Individual categories and boards on ZFGC may contain more defined rules for the specific area, please read those before posting in those areas.
   * [1] A third party is defined as: a forum user, an affiliate, a company, or any other entity public or private.
   * [2] Distribution is defined as: Using ZFGC as a medium of communication to, or actually using site resources (bandwidth) to distribute illegal      materials.

Pretty cut and dry.

Ahaha!!

you just added this like 2 days ago and Shemalei is goin nuts with it!

Also, before I get the second warning, I'd like to say. I like:

  1) First warning - Verbal.
  2) Second warning - Second verbal warning.
  3) Post moderation - the user's posts must be approved before they are seen.
  4) Ban - user is gone.

better.
 Moderated. You were warned before.
Let's just go ahead and skip to yours (and ours)'s 4) Ban - user is gone.

This is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

A problem that doesn't exist anymore is more correct; the warning mod is serving its purpose.

It's a simple philosophy; if you set a boundary that isn't based on the honor system, and let it determine if someone is allowed in or not, the ones who cause problems will eventually oust themselves.

I see the warning system as a way for us to track people's behavior, i don't see it as a form for us to follow to execute punishment.

Example, the user directly above, I immediately banned. I didn't go to the 3rd step.

Indeed.

Not to mention, before a user is banned, his or her warnings are reviewed, and potentially revoked if deemed invalid.

Just because a user is warned doesn't mean that they're getting banned instantly.

I was actually wondering when something like this was coming along. Can't wait to see how this will work out for people who can't control themselves.

Dunno about flame wars and real serious idiocy, but I laughed at pretty much all the joke posts. They may break existing rules. But keeping to your rules over fun? You must be insane. Well, unless that's the only way to keep things from going so bad that it'll end up far from fun for most users I guess :/ In that case the future doesn't seem bright at all :(
Also, If I break the rule of not to put your hand in the cage, I may get it bitten off in real life, but compared to that the internet's harmless :/ Or maybe it really is "serious business" for far too many people, especially ones that like to abuse their powers >_<
Oh well, have fun balancing it to get the most fun out of this place :P

Actually, there hasn't been a need to use this since the last outbreak (as expected) lol

Doesn't SMF 2.0 have a built in warning system?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see we're running on 1.1.7.

SMF 2.0 isn't necessarily final yet :P. It's only beta and I don't believe the admins are switching to 2.0 till then.

No we're just not switching because I'm buzy and can't be arsed to rewrite the sites more-or-less entire source code at the moment :P.
