Apple is evolving. First, they wanted us to wear 3D iPod glasses. Now, they don't want us to wear any glasses, in a 3D holographic environment with a multitouch interface.

Given their usual patenting conduct, I was expecting the title to stop at "Apple Patenting 3D"

I like the stick man in their patent diagram very professional.

Ironically, (or unironically...anti-ironically...?) despite your desired sarcasm, your statement is correct. Stick Men are a standard UML symbol for an Actor.

A more realistic drawing of a person would arguably be less professional.

In short...

The stick man made me laugh.

Knowing that they are going to make products that have holographic abilities makes me think of Star Wars.
So awesome.

Knowing that they are going to patent something before Nintendo does makes me think of the silly reason people hate Microsoft so much and adore this company that's no better.
<_<

It's like one big "3d-with-no-glasses" race that these companies are trying to get into, but none of them realize "3d isn't cool."

But these companies make 3D cool, because in a while you won't be able to play games without the 3D anymore. They won't be making any "normal" games anymore and 3D becomes the standard.

It wasn't so much the fact that it was a stick man that I found funny, so much as the pose of the stick man, as well as the fact that the stick man had a neck (how many stick men do you see with necks?)

Not to mention, no where in that article does it actually say that you have to use a stickman it merely uses a stick man in the Wikipedia example graphic it doesn't say anywhere that it must be a stick man ,that the stickman must be in any particular pose, or that the stickman must have a neck.

All the sources use stick men with necks too, and also http://www.omg.org/spec/UML/2.1.2/Superstructure/PDF/ has it down as the correct notation on page 603 followed by a picture of a stick man with a neck.
Quote
Notation
An actor is represented by “stick man” icon with the name of the actor in the vicinity (usually above or below) the icon.

[PICTURE OF STICK MAN]

Anyway, this is getting past playful so best we stop here XD

The main issue I have with this patent is it's quite abstract, doesn't this mean they could potentially sue anyone who uses a similar basic system?

Then again this is the company that patented the idea of an "Object-Oriented Graphic System", or in layman's terms: Icons -,,,-

All non-sucky drawn Stickman have necks. Do your stickman's arms and legs come out of his head? He'd be a spider.

XKCD stick men have no necks, plus legs come out of a torso (what kind of stickman has no torso?) Only sucky stick men have necks.

That largely depends on Munroe's mood.  Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

And this is the final word.
