General Game Development
Discuss different Aspects of game development here.

General Programming (GM, C++, etc.)
Post help requests, tips, and engines here, or just discuss game development in general!

Based on the descriptions of these two boards, they're almost precisely the same thing. More importantly, however, the content - the kinds of posts that are being made in these two boards - are regarding the exact same topics. I'm unsure how much effort it would take to merge these two subforums, but since the content of these two boards are so similar, it might be a good idea to bring them together. Doing so would aleviate confusion to people looking for help:

"I have a question regarding game developement, but which of these two boards do I post in? They're the same thing as far as I can tell!"

I agree, they are very similar, and can probably be merged.

Though they are different, the second one is more language specific, and not neccesarily related to games, the first is all about games.

The descriptions make them similar, but descriptions aside, they're totally different.

The descriptions make them similar, but descriptions aside, they're totally different.
If that's so, then perhaps the descriptions should be modified so that topics like "[REQUEST] Metroid Type Walking/Jumping Engine in GM6" and "Why doesnt anyone just start a OoT 2d or MM2d and finish them???" end up in the same place. After all, they both have posts about "Please explain this basic feature of language X" and "Please help me implement this feature in my game."

examples of topics from "General Programming":
[REQUEST] Metroid Type Walking/Jumping Engine in GM6
Visual basic?
[GML]Unwanted speed increase at room warp.

examples of topics from "General Game Dev.":
I'm curious, what's the difference b/t C++ and C++.NET?
Get started with the GBA
Why you're best off using GM.

(With an aside: those last two topics that I've listed are really well-thought out and super-helpful besides. We should give the OP a medal or something. =P)

If the descriptions were changed, perhaps more 'general programming' topics would be funneled into the gen prgm. forum, and only game-related programming topics would make their way into the game prgming forum. Only time will tell. =)
