The descriptions make them similar, but descriptions aside, they're totally different.
If that's so, then perhaps the descriptions should be modified so that topics like "[REQUEST] Metroid Type Walking/Jumping Engine in GM6" and "Why doesnt anyone just start a OoT 2d or MM2d and finish them???" end up in the same place. After all, they both have posts about "Please explain this basic feature of language X" and "Please help me implement this feature in my game."

(With an aside: those last two topics that I've listed are really well-thought out and super-helpful besides. We should give the OP a medal or something. =P)
If the descriptions were changed, perhaps more 'general programming' topics would be funneled into the gen prgm. forum, and only game-related programming topics would make their way into the game prgming forum. Only time will tell. =)
