Here's some E3 buzzkill for you: it seems the battery in Nintendo's Wii U control pad only lasts for 3-5 hours.

That's...wow. That's less than a lot of you would spend during a serious session with a game.

This is going to be a problem given the nature of the controller; it's one thing to have a pad plugged in while it's sitting in your lap and charging. If you're tilting it and moving it around the room, it's going to create problems.

Those aren't rumoured specs, either; they're official figures supplied by Nintendo. Bummer. Even worse is that they're estimates, with Nintendo saying that the screen brightness and "usage" may decrease it even further.

That's one of the first thing I wondered. Tho I dont mind having it plugged in a lot - I'm not going to play all these moving games anyway, if I even buy the Wii U at all.

Nintendo needs to stop mentioning hardcore gamers if their controllers have to die in less than an average sitting.

As much as this sucks, if a hardcore gamer truly wanted to spend over 5 hours gaming...wouldn't they choose their couch/TV as a means to game rather than resort to the controller?

It's not a handheld. It has a cradle to be put on when you stop playing. No need to reach and grab a cord to plug in (like that's a hard thing anyway, but people are lazy and forget I guess). So it should be fully charged every time you play.

Want to play for longer than a few hours in one go? Plug in its charging lead. (Which I wonder if it'd have to be plugged into the console, but if so, it'd have to be usb and can plug that in anywhere, even an outlet with an adaptor anyway)

No huge problems here really, thankfully.

Actually I kinda expected this, consider everything the Wii U Pad has on it:
Accelerometers, Bluetooth, Screen, CPU, and it's normal functions as a controller.

All of these things add up, and 3-5 hours isn't that bad.

Knowing Nintendo theyll have some sort of game where you use half and half. I can see this controller being used for a Crystal Chronicles remake, but that's me dreaming.

Nintendo is well known for squeezing every ounce of potential out of their consoles so we'll know soon enough. My main question is WTF IS RETRO DOING!!!!!!!!!!!!
