Title: NCFC Is Still On!
Post by: thestig on September 10, 2012, 11:23:15 am
Dimmish (http://zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=39980.msg436414;topicseen#msg436414) has pointed out that the NCFC 2012 event is still on, as reported by Kesha on their site. This is fantastic news! So, who is planning on entering in the comp?

No date has been officially announced as of this time(although a potential date in November is speculated, but this doesn't mean anything so keep that in mind).

Please, pardon me for this, probably, stupid question, but, what is NCFC?

That's alright man. NCFC stands for Nintendo Community Fan Convention, it is the only collaboration of various Nintendo-based fan communities that I know of where each community shows off their projects, and pretty much we all vote for which game we think is best.

It's an interesting concept though I do wish there was more communication between the coordinators of this project and the various fan sites.

I'm hoping that it takes place in November because October seems so soon - but then again I will likely not be entering anything (more of an engine developer than a game developer). I do like the event though when it happens, it's nice to see the variety in Mario projects and expertise in the Metroid ones.

Well, I'm telling Kienamaru, so he can go on with Shadow of Termina

I might enter as well, if I were to enter, I need to make maps of various places which I do not have tiles for.

But there is still possibility for me to enter this time around.

The date was announced yesterday as November 12 and the NCFC website graphical theme has been updated. So yay, two months to get something ready!

So, how exactly does one 'enter' this event? Can anyone go in and grab a booth, or does your entry need approval? And if so, how would one go abut that? *is new to NCFC entry*

I had the same problem last year. They don't explain it well at all. Consider it a entrance exam I guess XD
There is no form to fill in or anything. If I remember correctly (and please someone correct me if I'm wrong) you have to create a site (showcasing your game and preferably screenshots and videos) for your game and submit it only a couple of days before the event. There are two options to create a site: either make your own or use their site/tools. I have no experience with the second option, but you could look through last years sites to see what the results might end up looking like.

I think a lot of us would benefit greatly if some of you ZFGCers who have entered before got together and made a collaboration FAQ/guide.  :)

Is anyone here interested in helping out organize NCFC? While we have basic groundwork stuff covered, some more help with events and such would be what we're looking for. If you have any great ideas you want to contribute or just want to organize stuff we've done in the past, get in contact with me. My AIM/Google Talk is comradekesha@gmail.com, my email is kesha@bunchies.org, and skype is comradekesha (skype is preferred). PMs are fine too (though if you want to send a PM, I suggest using NCFC's forum instead as I'll probably get to it quicker)

In the past, NCFC has mostly relied on help from MFGG and Metroid Head Quarters so I really want to get other communities involved, especially ZFGC which I spent years on. We do need some help anyway (many of the staff including myself are extremely busy lately) and we all want NCFC to be the best event it could be, so if you've got ambition and are willing to put in some event organizing or event running work then we'd be very grateful.

edit: oh and yeah i understand there's issues with how we explain the event. I really want to get a write up on that but the basic idea is people who want games to present (as booths) submit them when registration for that is up. a booth is a small website dedicated exclusively to your game- think booths at e3. There's workshops too, places where people can share knowledge about fangaming they have, and registration for that opens the same time as booth registration. people who just want to check out the event can check it out when its open. I don't know if there's anything else I'd need to explain but if you have questions feel free to ask.

Kesha I think it would help if you explained what you need help with.

That'd be nice to know what you need for help with,
I do know that a member of MFGG has already prepared the theme.

ok, here are the big positions i'm looking to fill
- Tournament/Competition Organizer; person or people in charge of game tournaments, minigame competitions, trivia night, stuff like that. You don't have to do all of them, but getting someone solidly assigned to this stuff would help a lot.

- European Event Organizer; most of our events are based on American time zones, it'd be great to get someone to help organize things for the European users of NCFC.

hopefully this makes sense, if not feel free to ask for more info

Additionally, if you have ideas for anything NCFC doesn't offer and you want to help out with that then by all means drop me a message about that too.

Hey, How long is this going on for? And where do I apply

There should be something on the main page of NCFC site. I am guessing there give a week or two for everyone to get their projects in, so you might have time to enter.

There has to be a playable demo right?

Cheaply copypasted from the MFGG post:

Hey, folks! Posting here in case I can reach out to the folks who aren't at the NCFC forum.

As like last year, I am managing the Livestream for NCFC. This year I hope to have more guests streaming and less of myself streaming or one game streaming for a long time.

As like last year, if you have a trailer available for a game you want to submit to NCFC (Or a game you're working on that isn't in a presentable state playable, but would be cool to watch in a trailer), feel free to send the trailer to me so I can put it up on the off-stream. I'm also accepting pre-recordings made specifically for NCFC2012 besides, if anyone wants to record a little comedic skit or such.

If anyone wants to pre-schedule for a Livestream broadcast, please give me a note as to your planned schedule date and time! I would really appreciate having a schedule ready for the other NCFC participants to view when the event opens. Obviously I suggest you are accustomed to Livestream before you get going.

Thanks in advance.

Unless they have more booths to showcase, booth numbers are down from last year by quite a few.

The Metroid category is looking a little slim...  I miss Project AM2R...

Never mind. I just looked through the Zelda entries and only two actually had a demo. Ouch.
