GOLDEN SUN DS!!!! HECK YEA!!! XD

I've played both games on the GBA more than once. It's been a great series so far and I'm really looking forward to the new one!

Also, I'm always up for another Metroid game. Good stuff there. :)

Mario.... eh, I've almost gotten sick of Mario somehow... :o

Hey, this is pretty nice!
I'm guessing this is the game that you needed those lifting sprites for?

Well, good luck with moving and with the game as well! :)

I just played the game and I tried to find those sprites for you, but it turned out to be harder than I thought. I failed.

Anyway, I ripped a few sprites that were really close and I did a tiny bit of modification on them. I figured it was better than nothing. Maybe you could just use those for now? I hope it helps. :)

Just know that I tried.

those are pretty cool :)

Thanks lots!

Btw, I'm kinda busy with finals in college (summer break is the 12th for me, then it's Zelda all the way! XD), so I won't be updating this very often, but I do plan on at least getting ver 1.0 done, and then I will post the spritesheet in resources for all to use. Yay!

Also, I have fixed a few things:
- Link's tunic length fixed. (It was a little longer in some sprites than others. Now it's perfect.)
- Added animation numbering to show how animation works.
- Fixed a few minor flaws in sprites.
- Fixed Link pushing and pulling animations. (Didn't realize they were bad until I tested them.)
- Tested all animations. They all look good now.

I haven't posted this update yet, but I will once I get more added to it.  :)

Once again, thanks to anyone and everyone that supports! XD

Thanks. :)

Graphics / Update pic: [Custom] Link Charset 16x16 - Using MC Palette
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:51:58 am »
*removed crappy pic

I cleaned up the sheet a bit and added a few things. Such as Link pushing and pulling.
Empty spots with titles above just mean that I haven't made those yet, but I plan to.

*removed other crappy pic

Here is the sheet 2x sized, which is probably what it'd look like in a real game since 16x16 graphics often are 2x sized for games.

Updates / ZFGC Weekly

Ha ha, I must have been the only one to post a custom spritesheet this week? Nevertheless, seeing this in the weekly awards has somehow inspired me to continue working on the spritesheet. ^_^

EDIT:

Oh, and I would like to see Saria from OOT in SSB.  XD

What would you like to see added to it?

EDIT:

Or maybe it needs some changes? Coloring?
I think Link might be too pale, but it seemed the best color to use within that palette (in pic)
Also, I'm not sure I like his "angry" face while he's attacking... Any thoughts are appreciated. :)

Btw, I'm planning on at least adding more attacks (i.e. stab up and down, spin attack, etc), also blocking with the shield, and having Link done with a blue and red tunic (obviously not hard to do).
I will possibly have Link fishing, holding and using various other items, such as a bow. The thing is, I don't want to waste my time working on something that no one will ever use. I changed my project to having 32x32 (ish) graphics instead of 16x16, so I'm not planning on using this anymore. If anyone wants this to be completed so they can use it, I will complete it for them. That's the reason I posted it here. :)

I should go play TP front to back soon. It is a pretty good game. But yeah I really feel the series need a boost. We want really good graphics, voice-acting etc. I really missed that in TP.

OMFG NO, no voice-acting beyond that which is do already. Giving a voice and words to Link is like giving an identity to Link. And the best part of Link is that he has no identity and you can determine his identity for him.

A counter argument might be then to give the other characters voice-acting and not Link. But how stupid that would sound if the other characters are talking and Link doesn't say anything back. It is already on the edge with just the textboxes.

Exactly. I'd pretty much detest any Zelda game with voice acting for Link. It would just ruin it for me.

As for TP, it does start out slow and there are a few parts in the game that seem sort of loooooong. Still, if you don't expect it to be better than some of the more classic Zelda games, namly OOT, then I think it's a good solid game. I've played through TP 2 times and I'm planning on picking it up again this summer. btw, some of TP's boss battles are wicked sick!

Hmm, I think I just noticed what really is wrong with the picture. You made the height of the building in perspective. The walls at the side have to flow parallell. See my attachment. The red lines are the lines your walls follow, the green ones is what it probably should be. At least if you want the building to fit the rest of the style you've shown (look at the trees).

Yes, I agree. Go green! (and yes, pun intended) :)

TP's timeline didn't have a flood though... I think the flood is exclusive to child link's timeline. Not positive though so don't hold me to it. I really don't believe in the whole *timeline* BS anyway lol

Ah yes, the timeline... the truth is that there are TONS of views on the timeline, if there even is just one timeline, or even if there's any solid timeline(s) at all... so I just say, the heck with the timeline theories! Just make the game so amazingly awesome that people won't care or even think about it. :)

Just for the heck of it though, I got this "speculation" off of the Zelda Dungeon website.

Quote
- In about 3-4 seconds of the trailer, we can see a castle in the distance. This castle is very similar to the one found in Wind Waker with where the towers and other things are located. It also shows that the castle is near a cliff, which is shown in Wind Waker as well when going to enter 'Ganon's Castle'. The castle doesn't appear to have suffered any damage either, while the one in Wind Waker has been obviously damaged by something... or someone.

So it appears that Spirit Tracks comes before the Wind Waker..? I don't know if that helps or not if you are going to try to deal with the whole timeline issue.

... ive been thinking of adding a train system, to each town. The trains would be fuelled by these newly discoverd energy cristals. Each town would have a train stadtion, each with its own little sidequest to activate the cristal in them.

I like that idea. :) Reminds me of Spirit Tracks, at least the trailer I saw.

Graphics / Platformer-Style Link Sprite Sheet [Ver 1.0]
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:00:20 am »
For this Link character, I started off using the main character set from Cave Story, which is a dang good freeware platformer game made by Pixel. (Highly recommended!)
I've decided to complete this charset, even though I'm not going to use it anymore, I'm sure some one else will find it useful. If not, it's good experience for me anyway. ^_^

Hmm, it is a nice draft. But I think the Ocean has a to big a part of the map. There isn't anything wrong with an ocean, as long as it has some useful and interesting places to go. Maybe you could add some bigger islands and/or move the west side of the map a lot closer to Castle Town.

It is custom for 2D Zelda games that every square of the map can be visited. The only exception is Zelda 2: Adventure of Link, which BTW is the first Zelda game that came to my head when I looked at this map. I'm not saying you have to follow what is common.

Keep up the good work.

I agree completely with Niek. I really like the map, :) just a tad bit too much ocean unless it's explorable in some way. There are certain obsessive gamers (one being me XD) that MUST explore every inch of land and sea in every Zelda game.

Also, it looks like some of those names were inspired by TP, which is awesome btw. :)
Oh, if you wanted Faroon to actually be Faron, like in TP, then you might want to change that. Or maybe you just wanted change some of the names just a tad bit for some reason?

Lol, it's probably the *only* proper way to code an engine for GM. People get stuck in this rut where they focus everything around a ton of random objects. It gets so unorganized that you can't implement the engine into another game at all due to dependencies on other little bits and pieces :p

Very true. That's why this project is so great! It's being done the RIGHT way. Good stuff. :)

Electricity themed dungeon (inspired by golden sun games)

Yay for Golden Sun! XD

I like the graphics, except, somehow the snow on top of that tree isn't looking quite right. Just the part where the snow meets the green. I think it would be better if it looked more "connected" to the tree, if you know what I mean. Maybe it only bothers me. :)

And I agree that the ice needs to change as well.

I love the new graphics. (Except you saving the fire ones in jpg. Don't do that. It's bad!!!!)

Keep up the work man!

True, jpg gets it all blurred and stuff. png is always the way to go. :)

Btw, I'm liking where this project is going, especially because it's DS homebrew.

Actually I accidentally left out a step D:...

Step 4 should be "Load new room files along with their object data", and then 5 was the 4 I put on there :s

Lol that's kinda why I'm having issues doing it right now. I need to write it all on paper and go from there lol

Yes, lol, that is an important step. Btw, I like how you've been posting video updates, and from the looks of it you seem to capture the GB style magnificently! :) This is pro
