Made the original model in about a half-hour, spent a little while touching up and texturing, and finally put some finishing details today. You like?

By the way, it's about 900 polys. Is that too much for an average 3D game?

Pretty good although it is not an exact model and is a bit square... if you are using 3ds max or maya or some other professional modeling program, try using smooth shaders to make it look more circular.

BTW: 900 polys for a main weapon too much? lol I would reccomend atleast 1500 polys for something that you see 24/7 in your game. (This is why first person shooters have 2 models per gun, one very high poly (10,000+ sometimes.) for FPS view and one (1000+) for enemies.)

I use Blender. Anyways, thanks for telling me. Although I'm not new to 3D game making, I never really made models for them that were more than spheres or cubes. :P

1500 is probably over kill for a sword.  I'm making a model of the Master Sword too, and actually modeling the triforce engraving onto the blade, and it it's barely at 1500 triangles.  The Biggoron Sword I made a while back is only about 400 triangles.  900 does seem kinda high for the level of detail you have right now.

One thing i'm noticing is that you need to smooth the normals around the handle, I don't use blender so i'm not sure how you would do it in that.

I've done it (sorta)!  Bloom Lighting in GameMaker, and 3D mode too!  Check out the awesome Screen Saver.

Smooth them? I thought all you could do with normals was flip them.

I did a little searching, and the best I can find is under smoothing here.

900 Polys? wow my sword which had more detail on the blade was only around 5 or 6 hundred anyway nice job work on that handle though it's not exactly in proportion to the blade looks like the handle of a dagger 0.o
