i was wondering if anyone knew of some places where i could get just a few small little sprites for free i could use in my game. nothing like tsgk or spriter's resource; sites that have original stuff that people are free to use.

I would love it if there was a free-available resource like this on the net, it would be handy to an ungodly degree. Unfortunatly I've never come across one, or at least one of any remote quality. I don't really think your going to find any as most artists tend to want to earn money from their work.

yeah... whatever happened to freelance work and wanting only recognition and praise? *sigh* it must exist only among talented high school students...

That has vanished since nobody gives credits lol.

Wasn't there this site where everyone puts up his pixel-art and other pixel-work? Like dA, only with pixels solely. And usually GOOD too. Forgot the name.

man, i can understand being too apathetic to give credit, but stealing other work is just wrong. people who do that are giant asses.

Yeah I dont think I agree with the idea of "free sprites"... Mainly because of the reasons listed, and because no one likes to see a public domain sprite (or sound effect) in a game... it looks cheap, and really lowers the value of the project as a whole... :\

Not if those sprites or sounds are good quality. If you manage to be consistent with  your style while using public domain sprites, it'd be completely feasible.

You will also end up having about 10000000 games with the same sprites if you used public ones.

yeah, not to mention i was only looking for small sprites like HUD icons and stuff. I'm gonna hafta do a lot more than search the net for my character animations.

Is that really any different from all the Zelda fan-games you see that use lttp / fs sprites?  Like what Kame was saying, I think if the sprites look good and you're consistant with the style then it won't matter if you use public sprites.  The problem would be finding them since not many people would make good custom sprites for anyone to use in any game

yeah, but the difference with zelda fangames is that they're almost supposed to have the same sprites, since they're all based off the same thing. original indie games should have their own distinct graphics style.

You could always just make some placeholder tiles/sprites for now-- or temporarily use tiles from some obscure SNES RPG or something (some tiles that people may not see that much).

Oh I know TONS he could use. Treasure Hunter G, Rudra No Hihou and Bahamut Lagoon are a few. Great games, btw.
