Post by: CursedOne on November 25, 2006, 06:30:21 pm
What lies within that which is lost?

NEWS:

Storyline and name decided on. New demo in progress. New features added.  :) Basicly soon you will see a completely re-done demo. Should be great! ;D

STORY:

Ancient lore tells of a brave hero, an evil man called Ganondorf and a wise maiden... It was said that the hero vaquished the evil man using a magical blade to seal him away... But there was another, darker evil that lay hidden, in the Lost Realm... Once a servant of Ganondorf, she was named Mirissa... She was thought a mere body guard... But she had deep within her soul a power that could corrupt the entire world... One cold night she decided to unleash the secret within... But before she could do so Ganondorf turned and opened a vortex to the lost realm which pulled her in... The people however soon came to forget this tale... They continued to go about their peaceful lives... But what lies within the heart of the lost realm is more powerful than anything that has ever threatened them before...

FEATURES:

This game has alot of original features in it. some of those are/will be:
* On horse travelling and combat
* Some brand new areas and enemies
* Something other than the original hero saves the princess from
Ganon story (will not be revealed until the first real demo comes out)
* Being able to train whenever you want and to learn new skills (levels
of training must be unlocked depending on how far into the game
   you are)

SCREENSHOTS (mockups):

As you can see these mockups are simply some sprites put into a scene from mc, nothing special..

Hey, pardon me: but although they look like MC screenshots, they most probably are mockups. He took sprites and put them on a rip of the Link's house area. Haven't you noticed that the HUD is missing? And no smoke out of the chimney of the house? They're mockups.

There really is no excuse for bumping your topic in this way dude.

Anyway your demo is really good, I dont like the scrolling, link should stay in the centre of the screen. Good stuff so far :)

Hmm, I dont use game maker, my only word of advise is to have a look in the Tutorials & Engines forums elsewhere on zfgc, that might have some useful pointers for you. anyway good luck :)

Downloaded the demo and played it, and it's pretty good. However, there are DEFINITELY some improvements needed.
First off, register Game Maker. It's cheap, it's worth it, and in order to make the best game you can, it's definitely a necessity.
Also, rather than using separate objects, use one object with variables defining what the player is doing. So, when the player slashes, set "slashing" to true, or something like that, and in the move events, only move if slashing is not equal to true.
Some of your sprites are inconsistent or don't line up. For example, Link moves when slashing his sword, and moves back when finished.
Also, the spin attack could do with some touching up. Like I said in your "making sword fighting original" topic, I think that spinning should be executed by using a combo of the regular sword button, and then the left or right key. I do like how Link slashes in different directions depending whether you are moving left or right, though.

All in all, the concept is nice so far, but the programming needs some serious work. Keep it up.

its good, i only came up with two things i didn't really like.

1-if you walk straight up at the house and keep slaching your sword, you can get on top of the house.
2. i think the buttons you have for the weapons, and shield, are too........wierd.  i played the demo for a long time and i couldn't get the hang of it.  just a suggestion-c-sword x-action button for reading signs, talking, etc.  d,s,z-items and secondary weapons, like oot.  that's just what i prefer, you can do whatever yu want.

A promising start, but yeah, there are a definitely a couple of things that need improving.

When Kame says you should try and use the same object for all actions, that's certainly one way of doing it and it would avoid the problems you're getting here. But if, like me, you find using separate objects easier to keep track of, you need to be sure you're covering all eventualities. I can see when using both the shield and the bow that if you release the key before the animation's finished it stays stuck on the shield up/bow drawn objects. The key release event isn't actioned in time. Unless that's intentional, which would just be... strange.

I also think the mask for Link needs to be made smaller. I think that's what's causing the collision issues, anyway. Picture what the area on the ground that Link occupies would look like and make a mask that size - it looks like you're using the sprite's full size.

And maybe this is personal preference, but he moves too fast. I prefer Link to move a little slower than most people seem to, but I think this would be too fast for all of us.

Anyway, good work. Keep it going.

Code: [Select]

view_yview[0]=(view_yview[0]*4+(y-60))/5
if view_xview<0 view_xview=0

Um, I don't like the story, why would the woman never be mentioned in OoT, and then she is just there.  Also I don't think you should have a sequal to OoT, done for almost every game here, I made some things for your old storyline(check your PM), I don't know I don't like this one. Sorry Mittsu but this is pretty unoriginal.

this is different, much different from mine. :-\ :-X :P :-[ :'( :-*(these things are so cool.) anyways, in mine, she didn't really make a scene until after ganon had been defeated and then later after she attacked, link sealed her in the "lost realm".

Well Bboy an answer to your question is : she was never mentioned in the legend just mabey added in like of little importance you know. she basicly managed to keep a low profil until she tried to kill ganondorf but that tale was never told...

And Mitsuu thanks for calling the stuff in the story cool, and dont worry, i have tried to put key elements from your storyline in like the woman being imprisoned and not being heard of... don't worry your help is appreciated ;)
