Debates / Re: Fan Fiction
« on: May 06, 2008, 03:17:16 pm »
Only if the author sucks and people want some closure to the characters. Say The Matrix, not that I read any of it. But I assume some people would rather read a fanfic and prefer it overthe last movie due to it's crappy ending. Just saying the Matrix makes me curious as to whether or people really make fanfics of it.

Why would he look at porn that much during work hours? I assume he didn't do his business. So it makes little sense for him to look at porn. What did he do? Walk around with a giant erection?

I guess we're the three sole owners of NMH on this forum. This is sad, because I know a year from now at E3 09 people here will be like "WHY ARE THERE NO GOOD 3rd PARTY GAMES ON THE WII!". Because you didn't buy this game.

It's that serious folks. I'll let you pass on Zack and Wiki (it's amazing), but skipping NMH at this price is a crime itself.

Entertainment / Re: So how are you coping with the Wii drought?
« on: May 06, 2008, 02:54:36 pm »
Which troll are you on NGG? I need to know because I want to ignore you on that website. No one in their right mind, be it a troll or fanboy, would say Wii is in a drought as of now.

In Spring 2007 was the Wii in a drought? Yes.

Now? No. Not even close.

Edit: Forgot 2007.

Sorry for the double post (this has nothing to do with Zelda so I felt the need to separate it from my earlier post to make it easier to read my message without being sidetracked).

Final Fantasy games are not connected...yet. Final Fantasy X-2 makes many references about FF7. There's a character in the game called Shinra (the same as the 'evil' company from FF7) who wants to travel to another planet and make a new energy source.

Just wanted to put that out there.

That timeline stuff is pure !@#$%.
Miyamoto "confirmed" it?
Either Miyamoto confirmed it to shut all of those mentally ill theorists, or its just a very popular rumor. Also, final fantasy FTW.  OOT ended with child link. If you deny it, actually finish it.
/thread

Try watching the ending again.

When Ocarina of Time ended:

Show content
Adult Link defeated Ganondorf. Zelda asked for the ocarina to return Link to his original time. After that scene the credits roll and the people from the "future" world are celebrating at the Lon Lon Ranch.

That's ending number one.

Show content
The second ending is when Link finally returns to his original time and meets up with Zelda.

From there it's easy. Aonuma said that Twilight Princess takes place in the timeline where Majora's Mask takes place. And what happens to Ganondorf in TP?

Show content
The sages try to execute him because of what Link told Zelda from the future. They just dumped Ganon in the Twilight realm.

So it looks like this

Quote
......................./OoT (Adult)-TWW/PH (Adult Timeline)
OoT (Child) |
......................./MM-TP (Child Timeline)

And here’s a visual representation of that, by Darken Poltergeist:

As for the people claiming there's no Zelda timeline, there is. They're just making it up as they go along with it. There's no master plan really.

I'm going to go ahead and quote a friend of mine:

Quote
The split timeline is one of the things people seem to understand the least about the timeline. It used to be a theory supported by a lot of evidence, and with TP, it became the only possibility. Then, shortly after its release, Eiji Aonuma, director of TP and current producer of the Zelda series, confirmed that TWW and TP do in fact take place in parallel worlds to each other. But what people don’t know is where these parallel worlds came from. First, let me show you a couple of creator comments from interviews. This first one, from 2002, involves Aonuma, as well as Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto, before TWW’s release:

http://www.zeldalegends.net/index.php?n=interviews&id=2002-12-06-gamepro-miya-aonu-twwsummit&m=html

Q: Where does The Wind Walker fit into the overall Zelda series timeline?
Aonuma: You can think of this game as taking place over a hundred years after Ocarina of Time. You can tell this from the opening story, and there are references to things from Ocarina located throughout the game as well.
Miyamoto: Well, wait, which point does the hundred years start from?
Aonuma: From the end.
Miyamoto: No, I mean, as a child or as a...
Aonuma: Oh, right, let me elaborate on that. Ocarina of Time basically has two endings of sorts; one has Link as a child and the other has him as an adult. This game, The Wind Waker, takes place a hundred years after the adult Link defeats Ganon at the end of Ocarina.
Miyamoto: This is pretty confusing for us, too. (laughs) So be careful.

Just understand that the “hundred years” line isn’t exact, as TWW is actually hundreds of years after OoT. What he’s saying is that TWW is after the adult events of OoT, which is why there are many references to the Hero of Time. In the “child ending”, however, those seven years never happened, and so Ganondorf wasn’t sealed in the Sacred Realm.

And the most damning of all evidence for those who seem unaware of the dual timelines:

Note: Bold is what Aonuma says for clarity.

Quote
Before I explain that, I’ll show you another interview with Aonuma, from Nintendo Dream magazine in 2006 (although it wasn’t discovered until 2007):

http://www.thehylia.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1173582355

-When does Twilight Princess take place?

Aonuma: In the world of Ocarina of Time, a hundred and something years later.

-And the Wind Waker?

The Wind Waker is parallel. In Ocarina of Time, Link flew seven years in time, he beat Ganon and went back to being a kid, remember? Twilight Princess takes place in the world of Ocarina of Time, a hundred and something years after the peace returned to kid Link’s time. In the last scene of Ocarina of Time, kids Link and Zelda have a little talk, and as a consequence of that talk, their relationship with Ganon takes a whole new direction. In the middle of this game [Twilight Princess], there's a scene showing Ganon's execution. It was decided that Ganon be executed because he'd do something outrageous if they left him be. That scene takes place several years after Ocarina of Time. Ganon was sent to another world and now he wants to obtain the power....

The basic idea is that OoT’s ending branches out in two directions. This was originally shown by MM and TWW, which appeared to be mutually exclusive stories – it’s impossible for both of them to happen. The catalyst for the split was Link returning to before he ever drew the Master Sword in OoT, and closing the Door of Time as Zelda instructs him. The result of this is that the gate to the Sacred Realm is never opened, so Ganondorf’s plan to enter it after Link opened the way for him failed. He never went into the Sacred Realm and never touched the Triforce, so it didn’t split into three pieces – although TP shows us that the Triforce split still happened later on, we just don’t know how. So OoT’s adult events didn’t happen, and couldn’t unless Link took the Master Sword. But rather than the original set of events where Ganondorf conquered Hyrule being erased and replaced, the world Link saved is preserved and continues on. The alternate reality where Link lives those seven years peacefully, and goes to Termina in MM, branches into a new timeline. These two timelines are usually referred to as the Adult Timeline and Child Timeline, based on which ending of OoT they continue from.

Twilight Princess, taking place after Ganondorf failed to enter the Sacred Realm, is in the Child Timeline some time after MM. Ganondorf was captured, and the sages intended to execute him, but they failed and sealed him in the Twilight Realm instead. This is why Ganondorf in TP doesn’t recognise Link’s clothes as those of the Hero of Time or his sword as the Master Sword, even though TWW’s Ganondorf does. That’s because Ganondorf in TP never fought Link. There’s also no mention of the Hero of Time in TP, because he never existed in that timeline. Only an unspecified hero is referred to, and this is probably OoT Link, because of his actions in the Child Timeline (some of which we don’t know).

I think I reached the limit here (for lengthly post). If you wish to read up more about this then visit the Twilight Princess board on GameFAQs and look up Zelda Timeline FAQ V3.0.

For 20/30 dollars it's a steal. You have no excuse at this point to not buy this game, unless you're underage then shame on you (stores will ask for ID).

Neku is far better than FF8's Squall. The music is a mixed bag for some people, the characters at the very least aren't generic BELTANZIPPERS and the voice acting isn't horrible.

The gameplay is fine for the most part, I don't like having to wait for my pins to reload to attack. That's an awful idea, I can stand it in Chain of Memories because you can reload within seconds, but having to walk around waiting happens far too often.

Controlling your character and the top screen partner is hard at first. Some people go through the game with the partner on auto.

This won't change your perception of the game, but for those interested in TWEWY, give it a try. You may end up liking it.

Oh and Neku isn't such an ass, he's got more personality than your standard FF character and you'll grow to like him as you progress. Which I doubt since you already said that you don't like the game.

StarFox Adventures isn't a bad game. You just won't play it again, it's just not worth it.

Hitting Tricky and "YOU'LL PAY THIS MUCH" is all I remember from that game.

I thought RPGMaker XP was free, why choose the 2003 version?

This was probably already posted but Aonuma has expressed interest in remaking ALTTP since last year. I hope he doesn't go through with it, since OoT technically started as a 3D version of ALTTP but was scrapped in early development.

I can't see how the Wii functionality will make me want to play through the same dungeon designs. It'll have to have an online Four Swords component get me interested.

Speaking of FS, that should be the next Zelda title. Take notes from SquareEnix's FFCC Ring of Fates and give us that multiplayer experience on the Wii with Zelda.
