Hi, I hope somebody can help me.
I'm a good spriter (I came here from the rmxp scene) and I started a project. But now I want to make my tilesets look more like FSA.
I found this "filter" with google,

but I don't have any clue how to use it on my tilest.
When I just lay it over the tileset and set a transparency to ~50%, the colours of my tileset aren't very well any longer...
So can anybody explain me please how I would get the best result?
Thanks everybody and please excuse my english, I'm from germany. :D

I could be wrong, but I believe you will want to overlay and tile the filter during run time of the game. However if you're making a map or something as an image file you'll still want to overlay the filter after you've finished tiling it. If you were to just put the filter on the tileset some parts of the filter would be cut and could make your tiles look really inconsistent. Also, welcome to ZFGC.

This is what you want to apply with 50% opacity.

If you lay that filter on it with even 50% opacity you wil get it wrong. The point is that the red is a transparant color. Thus in a game when the filter is aplied any pixel that is the transparancy color will not be drawn or mixed with the renderbuffer. Those pixels are simply discarded.

I use the filter attached (It has the alpha channel intact), and use "texture" blend mode. (Most high end paint programs have this) If using in game, you have to use a blend mode to get the texture looking like the original.

The attached example:

1. Without filter
2. With textured blend mode
3. With 50% opacity using Xiphirx's filter.

Sorry I missed your reply. I used Corel Photo paint. I tried using it within Photoshop (Which I rarely use). If you use "Multiply" blending mode on the layer that has the filter image, it should have the same results.
