Well this thought came to me when I found the topic that CrystalAngel now had administrator status (Congratulations)

I think that the people of ZFGC should be allowed to choose who will be their administrator. Someone with experience at coding, popular, someone who would abide by the rules and would enforce them (to a certain extent)
This could also be a fun, little event that we have every now and then.

This was just an idea I got, and I wanted to voice it. Don't hurt me...

I'm sorry but theres no chance of that happening. Admins get access to a lot of vital parts of the server, theres no chance access is just going to be randomly given out to whoever gets the most votes.

It would also result in a 'popularity contest' style system, admins getting fired for neccessary but unliked choices, and so forth.

No, the internet is not a democracy. And I believe I'll be quoting one of the admins here when I say "This forum is not a democracy."

I see what you mean Infini, but I was thinking it would be the current administrator to pick the candidants of the next one, by showing proof they are good at what they do, and they have enough time. and an adiminstrator can keep running if s/he wants.

This was just an idea, and I wanted to see if anyone would go far with it. You know, something new...
However I would like to see other views about this.

Like Infini said, administrators have access to vital parts of everything on this forum and site and compromising that would be bad for everyone.  Like it or not, administrators are chosen in a way that is based loosely on popularity.  They have to be known and they have to be liked by most people and the team they are joining into.  I might be biased towards this, but I value work over good feelings and campy yes-people.  Criticism assists in that it helps you get things right more likely than if you just did everything on consent.

No. The admins are there for a reason, and they choose admins/mods on account of personality, reliability, and if a new admin/mod is needed. In doing so they make choices beneficial for the staff, which in turn benefits the community as this is an attempt to get everything behind the scenes running smoothly. If we just voted, it would be for our benefit, not that of the staff, and things just wouldn't work.

Wow this topic made me lawl. As said before "This is ZFGC not a Democracy" XD but Kyubi pretty much hit the nail on the head:

If we just voted, it would be for our benefit, not that of the staff, and things just wouldn't work.

Group cohesion is a major part of staffing a forum. If the leadership didn't have decent cohesion nothing would get done and ultimately the members would suffer as well. To some this may look like "popularity" but really a staff that gets along and is relatively on the same page is essential to an online community

Also, the point of voting also is to represent the people's (in this case members') interests. You have to realize that the entire staff (Mods and Admins alike) are still part of this community and look out for it's best interests. Come on, without the members, the staff would have no point now would it?

In a way we should. I mean, we should keep the couple general admins (Infini, Metallica, Andrew) then just vote on like another two.

Dunno lol.

We'd probably end up with a rock for an admin.

Example:
Sharon would be a great admin. Swoftu would be a horrible admin. People like Swoftu more, and then were !@#$%.
So no.
Unless The current admins chose candidates and then we voted.

Yes but if he was so "horrible", and he ran for an admin, then you wouldn't have to worry about people voting for him because he's so "horrible".

You don't have to worry anyways cause he said he doesn't want to be an admin.

There becomes an issue with how a democratic nomination process would work in that sometimes the staff has to make decisions that the community will at first not agree with.  Sometimes they are just wrong, but other times it ends up working out and everyone is happy.  However, then again, if people ran on a platform of what they planned on doing influentially to the direction of the forum, then it would be a useful way to track the way in which the users want the forum to be ran.  Like, a platform would be:

- Redoing the Programming and Development boards into Simple and Advanced Development to expand past Game Maker made games and to aid those who want to branch out.
- Planning to affiliate on a greater scale with outside fangaming communities.
- Making the Community Project more of a ZFGC project in that it would get more help and recognition.
- Getting the chat channel to be more officially tied to this place as it once was.

Then again, there are people who have ideas and there are people who put forth the effort to achieve those ideas.  That is where it gets problematic.

What about a represenative democracy? Like we all vote 10 people into the senator position, and THEY do the admin voting.

EDIT: We could have senators of each part of the ZFGC. A spam senator, A few game design, competition, a few general, etc

That wouldn't be democracy that would be an oligarchy.

Also, I don't think it's proper to be flaming or harassing people in regards to whether or not they'd make a good admin or not.
