Ok, so I'm making a zelda engine, and I thought I should make a community project. The game needs a story, so yeah...  XD
Well, heres all the ideas I have so far:
~It should be more futuristic than TP (like cannons, and so on).
~What if there was not only Din, Naryu, and Fayore, but also another who was evil. The space in the middle was where his "Triforce of Darkness" resided.
~All the races are tricked in warring with each other by Ganondorf.
~It could be before/during the Great Flood of WW, when there was continents.
~Link should be able to change shape (Like in MM, there was Deku/Goron/Zora, and in TP there was Wolf Link).
~There will be a bigger amount of items (Around 35)!
Please post your ideas for the Gameplay or Storyline. Thanks! ;)

Damnit you're stubborn. Sounds like you took pieces from all of the current main-stream Zeldas and called it a game. :P

I also have to agree with Darunia. It seems to me like an engine for which you can make every Zelda game (including OOT, MM, TWW and TP) in 2D. And 35 items? You would get a lot of items that are doing the same things. My advice is:

- Get 1 main gameplay element (item) and focus your story and game on that. Other gameplay elements should support the main focus.
- Use the (number of) items you need. Each dungeon has a new item, but the item received can also be an upgrade for an existing. The items fit with puzzles, add a new item when you get a puzzle that can't be done with other items.

You should also focus on having a strong engine to start with. Not just any movement engine attached with a sword engine and ocarina/mask/whatever engine.

My advice would be, make a pixel-perfect movement engine first. Then start making the sword engine, then the shield (these two go together, somewhat). Then you should start making a dungeon and when you feel there's the need for a new item, go for it, instead of saying '35 Items guaranteed! I know I can come up with 35!...'
