You know, the Character Competition was in summer, and it was pretty fun. Why not make a Winter edition, with more frosty characters, let's say (though, Icepick Vinnie, frosty character, won). It'd be pretty fun. Winter is coming, and it'd be fun to be a second competition :D

I like this Blaze! What a cute idea ^_^. I'll discuss some logistics with the guys and see what I can do!
-
I like this idea too! It is too long of a wait to wait until next summer for the next comp.

Yeah, waiting until summer sucks. I'll get the ball rolling the more we head into winter (aka maybe November?)
-
I mean the top of the site still talks about how the Char. Comp is going on, so might as well just start a new one. With the size of the forum, even with increased activity, it's just never probably going to be the big deal it used to be. Pretty fun still and nostalgic. I will definitely enter a winter character.
In fact I'm already calling my character now:
Abdominal Snowguy - He's the younger brother of Abominable Snowman. Instead of scaring people and eating them, he's just a body builder and gym instructor. You should see his abs, dude is ABDOMINAL.
We're talking rippling abs here.
-
Glad you all liked the idea :D

Ha ha, nice one! That is ever so clever.

I've never taken part in a character comp before because I was never really into it, but I've been working on an RPG which has me designing characters and creating bios for them, and I'm really loving it, so this sounds like a lot of fun. Awesome idea, Blaze.
-
Alright guys, let me formally plan this with some of the other higher-ups. This is brilliant, and I personally want to take part as well! I've been drawing a lot lately and feel this would be a great way to get back into character development. Blaze, you kick ass.

Blaze, I'd like your input with us on this for getting this designed. It's your idea after all :P

Uhm, sure. What would you like me to do?

Well, considering it's your idea, it'd be cool if we had input as to how the competition would work. Do you have any ideas on how it would run? The rules? Anything different you would want to see changed from the past character competition?

Hmm, the only change I'd do for the Winter Games, is that the characters should be winter-like.

My suggestions would be all winter OR summer themed characters. You have to pick a side, and get your name on a slot, get an even amount on each "team", so not only do we have one character who wins, but one team.
Brackets should be announced ahead of time, because brackets are fun to look at and make the competition more interesting. I liked the recent contest, but it was the only one not to have a bracket and that took some fun out of it. Since activity on the site is still not going to be where it was at for the original competitions, we should have a loser's bracket.
-
I don't really like the idea of having summer-themed stuff in addition to winter, though I understand it would make it more competitive-like with the whole "hot vs. cold". I just think that focusing on only winter is a cool idea... wow, terrible pun not intended. Anyway, summer themes would kind of ruin the whole idea, imo. But I agree 100% about the brackets, Moldrill.
btw, I've already got an idea for a character. I'm stoked. I'm trying to get my 3D modeling skills to a point to where I can make a 3D model as well.
-
It'd kind of be, for the Winter Games, snowy characters, but for the normal, any kind of characters.
-
Alright I posted a discussion about this with the mods. I really want to take part in this >__<
-
Yes yes yes! I am getting excited for this too! and I definitely agree that we need brackets... and a bracket for the most voted for losers to compete in (By most voted for losers I don't mean the most losery of the losers, but rather the losers who almost won but didn't) = )
-
losers bracket should be all the losers
-
Star, do you have anything new?
-
Star, do you have anything new?
...I wish I could say yes. I posted a topic and nobody's really elaborating on it. We have some issues to sort out since gm112's departure, so maybe after people will notice it :)
-
Hm... Unfortunately winter has passed without any winter games... Alas, life happens. What are the chances of getting the standard summer comp going this year?
-
As stated multiple times in the topic, I have brought up the Winter Games in the Staff and nobody responded, thus I never initiated it. However, that could mean better planning for a longer and overall better Character competition!
-
Yea, our fault there >_> Summer games are definitely an option!
-
I just wanted to say that I'm still totally in for a character comp, whenever one comes up. ^w^
-
I still think my idea form the suggestion about having smaller comps(innitiated by previous winner) and then having a larger monthly comps(with more time and such) could be more effective than just having a single comp a month and it only happening like one or two months during the overall year. If any of the staff(Ash or Steve) would like a more in depth explaination of what I mean feel free to talk to me over Google Talk.
-
Your idea and suggestion still stands as valid, but this certain competition would stand as one of the bigger ones...
-
M'kay, just wanted to double check to see if this was one of the big ones.

A character competition isn't something difficult to have - i.e., it follows a set formula and works itself to completion. The main difficulties with the last competition were the initial concern about the number of participants (which was solved by allowing someone multiple entries, and increasing the length of time for people to come up with ideas) and where topics would sometimes not be posted right away (which could be solved by having more than one person able to post topics so that the burden of doing so wouldn't fall on that one person).
I guess my point is that if you really wanted to have another character competition, why not just do some quick planning, maybe talk to Mirby about helping you and promoting the event on ZFGC given that she's a journalist, do the setup, and then as mentioned let it work itself to being complete. Any of the stylistic details you might want to have to make this character competition unique could be figured out between the hyping up and the start of the competition; from both staff involvement and community contribution.
There might be more interest from everyone too in terms of kicking the event off as the event isn't directly in the immediate shadow of the last character competition.

I agree with pretty much everything that was said here. We'll move forward when the time is appropriate.

Sounds good to me. I will look forward to it then.
