Graphics Gale, if you want free, use the free version. It's fully featured and won't run out, however, you can't load or run animations (.gif files).

Alternately, try out the trial for ProMotion. It's specifically designed for pixel art. It's about $80 or so, but as far as I know, the free trial won't run out of time. Just try both of these and see what you like. I would reccomend Graphics Gale.

WHAT!? Paint is the best spriting program their is.(Well... free anyways.) Alot of people complain like "OMG I can't sprite lik i usd paint" well i'm sick of it. Paint is the best. Period. Ever. I do almost EVERYTHING in paint.

Everything you see before is done completely in paint. EVERYTHING(Except my animated gif which I did every frame in paint, but I used animation shop to animate it.). This stuff is soooo old too... I did this like a year ago. I don't mean to turn this into my sprite showcase or anything, but paint IS the best spriting tool. I've used it for over 8 years... i've tried graphicsgale and others, but paint has NEVER been topped. Honestly, how can want something different than paint?

Someone needs to just recreate Paint, but add/extend on the features, e.g. add support for more formats, higher zoom levels, palette importing etc.

In essence that's what advanced paint programs are. All the real difference between paint and other image editing software are the extra perks they offer. While there's nothing wrong with paint, it's just very slow and cumbersome to work in. The layered approach that many advanced image editing tools offer increase productivity many times over in my opinion.

It is slow since, it takes you a lot of time to see if you pixeled correct since there is no preview window. Paint is the best free software to use, If you aren't good in paint you aren't good in another program, the program doesn't make you a good pixeller. It just make you finish faster.

what I ment is that.. you can't see it when zoomed, like graphic gale, you need to click here then here and see it, then again zoom, Consuming a lot of time.

One of my biggest time savers I get with Corel Photo Paint vs. paint are:

Resizing of the brush on the fly to any size by holding the shift key
Color masks
Hue shifter
Replace colors
Filters
Drop shadows
Color, contrast, intensity changes
Advanced .png options
8 bit conversion that doesn't look like crap
Custom pallets save/load
Grid snapping
just to mention a few....

Look, let's just clear the Paint issue up.

Paint is a sufficient pixelart program, even preferable to some which cater too much too photo editing (like Photoshop), so that things made with them are auto-aa'd, etc. and are not even pixel art anymore. However, Paint lacks the features of some other programs, both professional and unprofessional, that some users prefer and find useful.

Done.
