How do I do an overlay like the ones from the foursword adventure?

I am assuming you are using GM?

This isn't the best, but I don't know the features of the version you are using, but in GM5 I made an overlay Object that had the lowest depth, it had an alpha of 0.2.

That should do it, but very poorly, I would suggest finding a better solution.

OKay I supposed I should put what I have before really posting.  Okay I am using gamemaker of coarse and I have gm 7.  So how would I do it on there?

Then I can't help you there.

I only used GM5.3A and that was 2 years ago.
