OK, this is the last question I'm going to ask before I release some beta release pictures of my new game and a demo.

Is the timer really important in today's Mario game?
By "today's Mario game", I mean the Paper Mario NGC/Wii era.
By "timer", in case you really didn't know, the three digit number that counts down the number of seconds you have to complete a stage.

So?

No.
I particularly hate that timer (lol) but it could be used as a bonus in order to have a higher score. Not for you to lose 1 life if it reaches zero, but to give you extra points.

Yeah, and then you can take out the mario sprite, and put in sonic... we are soo tired of having MARIO in the mario game...
Anyho, I think the timer should be there, depending on if you're making the classic platformer, or if you're making a RPG like mario game

Yes if it will be a game where you go through the levels in a line.

No if the game will have levels which require moving back and forth and doing a variety of stuff like puzzles and non-linear format.

Yah I say keep it, but only in a straight-forward game with no searching for stuff in it. No one likes to be pressured to finish a level when you want to explore.
