Info
Ok, we (Hylian Lemon & me) started this project several years ago, mostly just recoloring GB graphics and music to start out. Some months ago last year, we re-announced the project and continued working on it. After that, we had a problem because the file was lost with all the stuff on it (except a VERY old back-up on my flash drive), so we got set back far to the old version. Now we've come back, with A LOT more than we had to show last year, and we are taking every step to improve the game. We started improving the graphics, then I started improving the engine. It all worked out :).

Story
Link is wandering through the forest outside Termina, trying to find his way back to Hyrule. It is late at night, and he thinks he sees lights up ahead. Heading through the trees, he is suddenly attacked by a dark shape.
"I'm impressed that you figured out where I was hiding. Still, there's nothing you can do about it; my plans are already in motion. Get out of here."
Just before he is knocked unconscious, Link catches a glimpse of his attacker's face. It is a shadowy version of his own. The next day, Link wakes up in a strange village, determined to find out what his dark clone is plotting.

that screenshot remembers me strong of the older pokemon games ^^
edit: btw. credit pls for some of the mc shadet things
-
Played this when you posted it back on zConnection. It's a freakin sweet game though. Get this finished, please.
-
Looks like a cool game. I can't run it for some reason.
-
credited you Yue, thanks for commenting =). BTW, for those of you who played the old demo in the old topic, this demo is different, so you have some new stuff to fo =).
-
I definitely think we can finish this. Both of us are pretty motivated, and we work well together. There have been multiple incidents involving the loss of the project file, but as long as dlbrooks keeps like 5 backups at a time, we should be set. :3
-
This game will go far. But if there is a z3 coming up, you lot will be against A Dragon's Tale. But still, Im sure if there was a z3 coming up, you will be a great competition.
If you don't understand what I said.
|
\ /
You better be at z3
-
It won't open for me! I said this earlier. Do I need to change any settings for it to work? It looks cool to play but I can't play it for some reason.
-

indeed
its a nice piece of work
-
I think this is your best one!
-

What OS are you using? If its Windows Vista, then it should run fine, cause I have Vista.
-
I have XP. I'm guessing it doesn't work for it?
-
YEah, it works on XP, cause Hylian Lemon has XP. Does it not show up when you run it, or does it say Unexpected error. What DOES it do?
-

hm well... looked just at "sprites" xD
-

It shows the unexpected error. I don't know why it does but it did.
-
Well, like they said on GMC, it could be because your Graphics card needs to be updated or the resolution needs to be changed or the color depth needs to be at its highest (32-bit)
-
I'm running on 32-bit with a 1024x768 resolution.
-
Well I wish I could help. GUESS WHAT! I just did all of this with my PSP!
-
Aww, and it looks like a fun game too. :(
-
Hmm. I get errors when I try to play on my desktop computer, as well. I have to play it on the laptop for it to work. Dlbrooks and I tried to mess with my computer settings to get it to play, but I haven't been able to run anything from dlbrooks on here, no matter the amount of colors and whatnot. I'm not sure why.
-
I don't think stuff in GM7 works on XP, so I've heard. I have a laptop with Vista on it. I haven't tried it on that though.
-
Yeah, definitely try it on the laptop. Who knows, it might work.
I do have XP on my laptop, and it does work there, so it's not really an OS issue.
-
I might try changing the screen resolution on my computer first if that's something that could work.
-
hmm, we did that on Hylian Lemons desktop computer. You may want to go witht he laptop.
-
I have a laptop, XP and this runs completely fine
-
it wouldn't load for me... :'(
-
Thats pretty awesome lookin! Hope you finish it!!
-
when do you think you might have another demo out?
like of the first dungeon. 8)
then the first half of the game. ;)
then...Done. XD
-
I really think the best thing to do is release small demos nicely spaced so that you guys don't experience the whole game through demos before playing the actual thing. That would just be anticlimactic. XP
My idea was to create an alternate version of the third dungeon for the next demo, because there are some interesting concepts there. Of course, we would still release screenshots every once in a while until then. But we haven't decided anything for certain yet.
-
Your games are always awesome!
-
Well, its time to fill you guys in again =).
-We fixed a lot of bugs.
-Several engine improvements.
-We are still working on the first dungeon, we are near the miniboss.
-Cuccos!
-The major thing is we have the maps done, here's a screenshot: (http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/dlbrooks34/PoD-11.png)
Any suggestions/comments?
-
someone at Pure ZC said that we should have some kind of background for the map stuff. So I used my frame from my old Zelda classic quest "Hero of the Past," which I may end up making in GM sometime =). Any comments?
-
It looks mighty fine. Keep it up.
-
Just a quick question for those of you who have played the demo...
Items inside pots. About how often are you getting them? Dlbrooks has been getting a lot of them, and I rarely get anything. We're trying to decide if the ratio should be changed, and I wanted to know what you guys are experiencing. I've always been pretty unlucky.
-
I'm new here so go easy on me, but you do want to know what I experienced with the game right?
Well......... I found SEVERAL engine bugs or things I just didn't like :P
First of all, i felt like the movement could use improvement because I found by self going into several ditches and going "What in the World?!?".
Second the collision detection could also use work. I'd slice enemies and they walk right through my sword and hit me. Other times I hit them and it does nothing.
Other things I found was the roll was too fast for me and in the Desert Wasteland I'd get hit and not even know know what hit me.
And about the pots I break pots and most of the time I either get nothing or just rupees. I hardly ever get hearts.
Man for my first post that was pretty big. 0_o
-
Thanks for the input. But what do you mean by going into "ditches"?
-
probably the abyss feature whereas you respawn where you last was safe, or in GB at the last entrance (or exit)
also, i agree about the drop rate of hearts.. its very low :P
in my engine i have a general heart droprate of 1/32 and for enemy drops its 1/16
fairy spawn has a 4x lower chance, respectively 1/32/4 and 1/16/4
-

Yes that is what I meant by ditches. And I'm not saying it's a bad game, but it's not great either, just good. But with a little improvement this game could be da bomb. XD
-
Given the nature of the large scrolling outdoor areas, it would be rather inconvenient to place the player back at the last entrance after falling down a hole, and inconsistent to only do this in the dungeons... Or were you getting at something else?
-
Typing this with mah PSP =). Anyway, are you talking about the way Link goes into a hole from the south? Cause, I know he would only fall if the center of his feet was over the hole.
-
Ok time to fill you guys in after a LONG TIME!
-We improved the engine alot.
-Fixed several reported and non-reported bugs.
-We finished everything in Level-1 except the boss.
-We recolored and updated some things.
-Some areas look a bit different.
-I did the drawing distance thing, so the lag has been reduced.
-We updated the maps and menus, and this is a preview of what the new menu looks like: (http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/dlbrooks34/PoD-13.png)
Any suggestions/comments?
-
More updates!
-Engine improvements.
-Messload of bugfixes.
-Improved item actions.
-Slight graphical updates.
-COMPLETED FIRST DUNGEON! :D
-Yeah, that means miniboss and boss battles. Hooray!
-I'm converting the soundtrack into mp3 form. In the future, you'll have two options for download: Higher quality mp3 version (which would be a lot bigger) or lower quality MIDI version.
-And we started on the next area.
New screenies:
(http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/dlbrooks34/PoD-14.png) (http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/dlbrooks34/PoD-15.png)
And one more thing: A trailer will be on its way soon/eventually, so watch out for it! You'll get a taste of the new mp3age.

Could you possibly use OGG instead? You can have a lower bit rate on it and still have higher quality than that of the mp3 format.
-
Ogg is a bigger filesize than mp3, isn't it?
Anyway, dlbrooks said that GM doesn't accept ogg... :-\
-
Depends what your compressing really. The main advantage of ogg is that its a loss-less format as apposed to mp3 which is lossy. This basically means that when you compress an mp3 you loose sound quality, where as ogg keeps the sound exactly as it was before it was compressed.
-
I've compressed an OGG file at a 96 kbps rate, and it sounded much more better than mp3's at a 128 kbps rate. Besides, OGG is a newer format and it has no license issues.
-
Ok, so I see the benefits...but:
1. I don't think FL Studio can export as ogg
2. Gamer Maker doesn't allow them anyway
So I'm not sure anything can be done about it.
-
Dude, looks pretty damn awesome. keep it up.

I'm not sure about FL Studio, but I know about Game Maker.. you could use FMOD as your sound engine. It works much more better than the internal GM sound engine.

WOW, IT'S BEEN FOREVER SINCE WE'VE UPDATED YOU GUYS O.o. (I'll give you an I owe you ^.^).
Let's just cut to the chase by saying, for those who have played the first demo, YOU WILL BE BLOWN AWAY WHEN YOU PLAY YHE SECOND ONE WE PLAN TO RELEASE AFTER THE SECOND DUNGEON IS COMPLETE, which we will get to soon, but we have to finish up the areas that lead to Level-2 so we can do the dungeon O.O.
Here's a new screenshot of the second new area: (http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/dlbrooks34/PoD-16.png)
PRETTY ISN'T IT >=).
List of updates:
-Engine Changes/Tweaks/Improvements/Edits/Revisements.
-MEGA LOAD of bugs fixed.
-Many suggestions have been done, and we have some new enemies, new techniques for Link, and a special item you will collect throughout the game =).
-New areas.
-Improved some graphics.
-Saving updates.
-INTRO, THE STORYLINE IS IN!!!!!!
-MUCH, MUCH MORE.
The trailer we talked about earlier is still comin' soon, so hang tight =).

1. As common practice, get into the habit of exporting your .flp's as wav in wrap remainder and leave remainder (or whichever ones you need). Use something like Audacity to then import the wavs and export them in Ogg Vorbis. Not mp3 for loops, as it leaves unavoidable silence at the beggining and end. Also note that if you want your songs to loop cleanly you need to edit out the silence at the beggining and end of your song, otherwise you will get a click and it will sound strange. Also note to loop perfectly you need to make sure the start and ends of the waveform match up at the same level, else you'll still get a click. And it's harder to do this with stereo tracks, although they sound much better.
2. Use a .dll. There's plenty sound systems for GM out there.
-
Ok, thanks for the tips. We're looking into it.

Well I don't know how to put the poll in tht topic here O.O, but, we need you guys to vote on wheter or not we should make whatever outlined text is in the game to normal text.
1. Keep the text the same.
2. De-outline the text.
-
We've altered the file selection screen a bit.
One thing to note is that we have added tunic-changing name cheats, which will have the same effects as the tunics in Link's Awakening DX. You'll have to play around with his name to figure them out.
This screen is also a good example of the outlined text we want your feedback on.
