I know for a fact that the designers of Gurren Lagann (the robot) used Zambot 3 as inspiration. And most of the time, creators of certain works were fans of previous and similar works.

Discussion / Re: Anybody else have coding "in-jokes"?
« on: May 14, 2010, 12:12:55 am »
Personally, if something was really stressful to code or come up with, I would write a sentence fragment about it... Like "Jeez, this was crazy" or something.

Sometimes, if I feel like the outcome of something is going be simply amazing, I write about it too, like "and this is THE ONE" or something.

Do you mean the one where they actually speak? I have it. n_n I don't remember an inch of it although I do think there was a little girl involved and something about running away from home or something... There was a scene where they're in a sewer pipe entrance looking at the sea.

...I think I'll watch it again; it's been too long.

I'm sorry but I must ask why was the FF V protagonist called Butz in the US? Was it the same in japan?
I'm pretty sure it's Bartz, unless you played the fan translated version of it for SNES, 'cause that one never made it to US shores.

Well, in the Dissidia website, I see his name, written in kana, as バッツ, which directly romanticized is Battsu. On the Dissidia website they also have their names in English atop the kana and it reads Butz.

Therefore, the "correct" spelling is Butz... But as with Cefca being the correct spelling for Kefka, I doubt many outside of Japan really like Cefca as the spelling... and Butz sounds like butts [insert immature jokes from people who just got it]... In the US, I remember seeing his name as Bartz.

@ Garoth Moulinoski  Kaguya Nanbu wouldn't be your reason for liking the game would she ;)

Nah. After a couple of times, looking at her bouncing around in her special just becomes another thing. The story just propels itself, like the old Final Fantasy stories (FFIX, FFI in a ways) used to do.

That would actually be VI
I think that's his point.

V is definitely deserving of a remake, it's my second favourite Final Fantasy!  Haven't beaten it, though.  Got stuck at Bahamut 'cause I didn't feel like leveling up a bunch just to get past his Giga Flare attack.

Can't you cast reflect and have him beat himself up? I remember being able to do that, although I beat FFV so long ago... I mean, the GBA version wasn't even announced and I think the PSX version had just come out when I was playing it or when I beat it.

Ah, c'mon... Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was fun even if it was easy and had touchscreen controls. And Zelda: Twilight Princess wasn't terrible either.

Link's Crossbow Training (which I liked) is more of an example of Zelda going casual, but even then, it's not a main Zelda title.

Hehehe, or, 'know, do like they did with Chrono Trigger and just port it directly, losing all meaning since there's already a GBA version, but whatever- this time there's touchscreen and all the fanboys will buy it again.

...Ugh... Changing between languages is so weird... *Was in a Spanish forum*

I'm a big fan of the Dragon Quest series, so I've enjoyed JOKER, IV, and V. Unfortunately, I already beat IV and V in their original consoles, so I was merely replaying the games... Still, my eyes still watered while playing DQV.

The World Ends With You was a pretty good game but it's virtually impossible (to me, anyways) to play it using anything other than sword pins.

I started playing Super Robot Taisen OG Endless Frontier *breathes* and without knowing it, I ended up playing it for ike 2 hours straight.

Also- FFVI is already been announced?! WTF. I don't know whether to be like "!!" or to be like "D:"

Because now you know which Zelda is for t3h kiddies and which one IS FOR THE MATURE GROWN-UP PEOPLE- YEAH!

...:< I like non-realistic graphics, dangit.

What the gameplay is, is still confusing to me. The only things that made sense were the awesome FMV's. I have never played any of the Prime games, mostly because of the first-person view. But Team Ninja seems to break Nintendo's "no voice acting" rule and I'm wondering how that will turn out.

Why the gameplay is confusing, is because I some parts that indicate the following:
- RPG-ish battling (like FF).
- Third person view action shooter (like the current Zelda's).
- First Person Shooter (like the Metroid Prime series).
- Side scrolling shooter (like the original Metroids).
- Battle Royal blast-away arena (like SSB with guns).

So I don't really know what to think of it. We will just have to wait until 2010 I guess.

I don't see how there're any RPG-ish battles shown in the trailer. I do hope that it goes back to the roots of the old Metroid games (Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion with skippable story parts).

I actually think that a Z-Target control scheme would work for 3D (oldskool-like) Metroid games. However, it'd be nice if that once-long-ago proposed Metroid ... Dread? was actually worked on. An actually 2D Metroid would be nice.

Like I've said before: Just because you can doesn't mean you have to. Just because a console can do God-knows-how-many-polygons on a console, doesn't mean you have to. Just because you can make a behind-the-character camera view doesn't mean you have to.

...Dang, I'm ranting again just like in the other topic about the new Wii Zelda. X_x

Theres a very good chance this game i will use motion plus. According to Miyamoto.

So 1-1 swod fight YAY! ???

No. Not unless I can be left handed, which, by the looks of that art, Link won't be. As a lefty, I'd prefer Link to stay left-handed. :<

I'd also like to see this Zelda not being as dark and brown as TP. It'd be nice if Link weren't so mature and fully developed. The magic of Zelda is how you somehow become Link. If Link is already a well-defined character, then what is there for you to do? Explore the world? But isn't Link mature enough already?

The player and Link are always pretty much "new" to Hyrule or wherever Link is. In any case, Link has usually lived a pretty normal life (by fantasy medieval standards, at least) until the time his adventure starts.

...</rant>

I read the other day (somewhere, forgot) that following chapters will be 300 Wii Points. Only this first chapter will be 800 Wii Points. :/

14
The first chapter was released in North America on June 1, 2009 is what Wikipedia says. That can only mean one thing, and that one thing means that it is expensive if there's ~11 chapters if I remember correctly.

Total price : 3700 wii points according to YoshMasterGF at Gamefaqs.

I actually wanted this game... Not so sure now... Might give it a try after I read some more info on it.

They may have a UMD ripping service, dunno.

HAHAHAHA. Never. They'll never do this. Otherwise, you wouldn't have to pay to play PSOne games you already/still have on the PSP or PS3.

Same thing goes for Nintendo or whatever.

sword rubbing between Link and ___________

...Hahaha. Sorry. X3

But the only way that will work is, if you completely free your mind from any prejudice towards Wii controls and completely forget the world around you. And let the game just take over.

I'm pretty sure people have had that happen to them while playing the other Zelda games. I loved exploring the world the in Legend of Zelda (and thankfully, text was short so the game went by fast, if you wanted it to). I'd play Link's Awakening for hours on end without realizing it was dark outside.

Still, the Wii controls aren't terrible. I only bought the Wii version because I already had a save file from it from the time I borrowed it.

Yeah... The title's one big whopper of an example of irony. :P I guess so is the game. XD

I wonder who thinks this game is hard and who thinks it's easy...

Other Projects / [Completed] Sinfest: Slick Fights for Peace
« on: May 19, 2009, 08:57:22 pm »
I made a Sinfest fangame. It's cheesy and hopefully it has a good ol' arcade feel to it. It's based off of this particular comic.

Quote from: Original Post on the Sinfest Forums
This comic inspired me to make a shooter game (which I've been meaning to do with the Legend of Zelda series). I finally got down and did it today- started at 7 am and finished around 1 pm so don't expect too much.

Game's called Slick Fights for Peace and you basically just move around shooting stuff until you get to the Big Bad (which really happens to be an enemy from Earthbound, just because I'm lazy and the thought of Slick fighting THAT enemy was just hilarious).

Anyhow, download here from Mediafire (Sinfest Shooter.zip) and be sure to read the README.txt for controls and credits. There's no installation required, just unzip and click on the exe file (Slick's head). Only for Windows XP and Vistas users (on Vistas, you might get that "Unlicensed/Registered Program" message, that's just Vistas being stupid-secure).

Screenshots:
Titlescreen (Again, don't expect too much)
In-Game, shows you a Israelite soldier (I hope you can tell)
Another In-Game screenshot, shows you the other soldier and the Airplane which shoots the white/red missle like in the comic
Small teaser for your after-game reward

Anyhow, let me take advantage that I finally decided to join by saying that I only discovered Sinfest a few weeks back and have since then been passing the time reading every strip. Awesome stuff. Hope this first post here goes well.

Whaddaya guys think?

Edit: Fixed the link, screenshot still has Mercedes-Benz logo
