Yeah it's free to use. Someone just needs to finish it. :P

Cool. I'm not good at spriting from scratch but I can edit. Thanks a bunch!

Sprite Collector, you're letting me use it? I did like it a lot when I first saw it :3

OoA/S & LA / [SOLVED] GB style Epona
« on: April 13, 2009, 04:22:48 pm »
I'd like a GB style Epona moving up. I already found Sprite Collector's GB Epona from like 2006 (O_O) but not only is that one not for use, but it also doesn't have any animations for moving up.

So, yeah, anyone up for the challenge (and willing to let me use the sprite)?

Coding / Re: Wrap around map in GM?
« on: April 07, 2009, 02:19:20 am »
Well, I've thought of making exact replicas of the edges of the map... Like say, half of the total screen from one edge, paste onto the opposite side. Then, move the objects to the middle of said edges once they get to the opposite end.

That still seems like far more work than I should be doing. I'll do it if that's the only way, but I just wanted to know if there was any other way to do such a feat.

I don't have any experience with GM, but you could possibly check the Y values of the player on the map and have it teleport the character from the top to the bottom. You'd have to do some tricks with tiling to make it work efficiently. Vice versa for the X value.

Heh heh, RPG Maker terminology. (Not that I'm saying you're a RM user)

Coding / Wrap around map in GM?

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know if it is possible to make a wrap-around map (like the Final Fantasy's overworld maps) in GM?

Imma buy this. Just to see what's inside. I want to know if it's exactly like the Wii manual.

Yeah, but it was the bosses that made those dungeons great. I mean, "Bottle Grotto", and you're fighting a weird-looking genie. The Gameboy Zeldas were definitely the most imaginative in terms of areas, dungeons, bosses, enemies and characters.

It'd be interesting to see that sort of approach taken to a 3D Zelda game... though, I doubt Nintendo would do that these days.

But I digress!

We could always petition to Nintendo or something and be like "OoT SUX GIVE US MOAR LA AND OoA/S" I'd be all for it since I loved the GB Zeldas. Minish Cap actually seemed to me like a mix between the old GB Zeldas and then again trying to also imitate the newer 3D Zeldas.

Hope that made sense.

I don't dislike the train simply for being a train, but I suspect it's just there to travel between areas instead of having a real overworld.  That's not cool.

I can agree with this. Part of Zelda's charm was exploring the overworld and filling out your map (at least in LA and OoS/A).

It is generally a good idea to stick to one style whenever possible, otherwise the game gets a patched feel... like my Super Smash Karts >_>

Hmmm, I thought the map looked familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it.

Nice job. It'll be nice to explore Hyrule with friends.

It'll somehow work. This new Zelda just might take place in the future of Hyrule. Who knows?

Hmm... somehow, when I was playing using the option from the second achievement (;) XD), where I was supposed to fight the first "miniboss" (upon beating it, Wario yells out "Nerd!"), the monster never appeared. :( And I was trying for Most Time Spent On the Air achievement...

Still, awesome expansion. Now there's an S Rank, even! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to even reproduce my A rank victory.

1D = one dimension, meaning travel from one axis (usually the x axis). In this case, I think Miles is correct.

Either way, despite not thinking this 3D LA will ever ever get finished, I still had a little fun with the demo.

I've been wanting a 3D remake of the original LoZ, but I definitely will not try my hand at it... Not yet at least.

I think you're just expecting too much out of something that is already good. You expect so much out of the series that you end up spoiling it for yourself.

I am already pumped up and hyped over the new Zelda, even if it has a wonky title.

Porkchop, the Wii already has an official Zelda (even though it is actually a port). I think you meant a Zelda designed specifically for the Wii in mind. Actually... Link's Crossbow Training? Meh, even that was fun.

I'm pretty sure Spirit Tracks will turn out to be enjoyable... At least to those who don't expect the Zelda franchise to go in a super different direction or whatever.

One thing I would like in future Zeldas, though, is more opportunities for actual exploration, like back in LoZ, LTTP or Link's Awakening. But no matter, the recent Zeldas have been fun to play through.

Abso-freakin'-lutely. Give credit where it's due.

Contrary to what some people who shall remain nameless (...) think, I post sprites so others can use them. NOT to "rub it in others' faces like some sort of a mockery saying 'Ha ha, look at what i can do any u cant loozr n00bs'".

*grr*... Some people, through seemingly no provoking action from me, can seriously annoy me. But that's not what this topic is about.

Yes, Garoth, you can use the sheet.

Thanks!! I get frustrated when I see certain sprite sheets that say "DO NOT USE" or "TSR ONLY!" (although I think that only means that the sheet can hosted on TSR but used individually?). I also get frustrated when it asks me not to use it without asking for permission first since many times, you can't get ahold of the spriter to begin with. I have no problem with asking for permission, though... Just, y'know, I wish I know where I could find you. So usually, I end up just using the sprites without permission and crediting the person who did it.

That means me. I still haven't tried it out yet because I know that, like before, if I do try it out, I won't get anything done until I achieve everything.

These maps are amazing! I love the GB Zelda look (I did kinda, sorta grow up with Link's Awakening). I love the GB Gerudos. Don't think I ever saw those in the Oracle games so I suppose they're custom.

I actually didn't have that much of a problem with the Temple of the Ocean King. Each time you acquired a new item, you could skip through some parts of the floors and you didn't have to do everything all over again.

I bet Link will literally draw tracks on the ground and make the train move along those tracks.
