I haven't been on these forums much recently, but I didn't see any post here about project AM2R.  So for those who may not have heard the full release of the Metroid 2 remake is out and it is really good!  It is well worth your time if you like Metroid.  The AM2R team did a fantastic job. It is every bit good enough to have been made by the big N themselves.  Congrats to them on finishing a fan-game in such a spectacular way!

I heard about this. It was all done expect for the final boss (with that coming shortly) right?
They've really pulled of a monstrous achievement with this. Good on them.

As they actually released it as 1.0 on the 6th I'd find it weird if it was literally missing the ending of the game.

I heard about it on a podcast a few weeks ago, but if it's now version 1.0 already then that information is probably outdated.

I was under the impression that the ending was finished, but maybe I missed it.  I haven't got that far yet, but it plays incredibly smoothly.  He just released a 1.1, but I think it was addressing a few minor bugs rather than additional gameplay.  Either way it is well worth keeping an eye on.

edit:  After completing the game I can confirm that the game is complete clear through to the credits.  They really did an outstanding job!  I wish Nintendo would reach out to them and make a deal to get it on there systems.  It is a great remake.  Both parties could benefit from it if they did...  However unlikely that may be.

Somebody said the 4 magical characters.
AM2R is a YES. If you've ever played any Metroid game, sit down and play this one. Especially if you've played Metroid 2 for the Game Boy.
To clarify, the last demo they had before the 1.0 release stopped at what is known as "Area 4", a.k.a the 3rd-to-last area in the original game. This means that Omega Metroids and the Queen herself were both kept hidden from almost everyone, except for a few select playtesters, until the release of the game. This also means that
Show content
4 areas
were also not previously played by anyone with the demos.

And yes, the game is awesome. Go find it, download it, and give it a try. DoctorM64 has spent the better part of a decade coding this game in his spare time. It is a beacon to fangamers everywhere, on how persistence, support, determination, and a little bit of publicity can help make a little endeavor become large enough to gain the attention of the big AAA companies.
Yes, Nintendo DID respond to AM2R... by sending a DMCA to some websites that were hosting the download.
Props to you, DoctorM64.

I was talking to my friend last night, and he was mentioning about how in 1980, he thought the internet would become this amazing place where people from across the world would share ideas. I was telling him about how this project [KOT] has worked, lurching along for years and drawn by different people from across the globe, and he thought it was beautiful. And he was right, it's awesome. :D

Tried it too, best thing since sliced bread :p (a joke I heard recently)

Believe it or not, Nintendo, has or is in the process of C&Ding this project.
They already had Pokemon Uranium's back to the corner with whatever they are throwing it's way.

I think the problem is, once the HYPE TRAIN comes for a fan made project, it gets big and when it gets big, Nintendo will come in and do some serious damage on said project. The hype train people on the internet I think is the cause lol.

Also IGN, Gamespot and various game media covered Pokemon Uranium and AM2R, giving Nintendo the element of surprise to attack. :D

What's is probably the best thing about the creator of AM2R is that he was not mad at Nintendo for protecting their franchises (something the Metroid fan community need to take notes from), but instead suggested that they but Nintendo's Metroid games.
