Then go see it in theaters to make up for pirating it.

Pirating is for l0z0rz.

Maybe a bit spammy, but true, nonetheless.

with today's ticket prices I really don't have a problem with people pirating movies they wouldn't normall see, provided they then support the film if they liked it.

The reason today's ticket prices are so high, is because movie theatre's aren't getting enough visitors anymore.

You want to know why this is?  Two reasons:
1. Pirating.
2. The "widescreen" format is no longer exclusive to the theatres (the widescreen format was invented to give theatres an exclusive, and so people would have inscentive to go), and DTS and other theatrical technology's are now avaliable in your home.

So Hollywood's really in a panic, because with this trend they need to pull something out of their sleeves to get people back into the theatres.  So your attitude is flawed in the area of logic.  Moral justification is hardly an excuse for breaking a law.

Your first point is kinda void tho, Possum. If people really wanna see a movie when it comes out, it's impossible to pirate something before it's sold to consumers. Movies are still getting high box office incomes. It's when movies are released on DVD when pirating becomes a problem. But before that, people still go to movies to see new releases because they'll have to wait upwards of a year to priate it.

Nope, most pirated movies sold in China are the type that have been recorded in a theatre.  And why go to the theatre, when you can wait, and have the same experience in your home 8 months later?

I'm as guilty of this as anyone, because I have a 60 inch HD TV, with a 6.1 speaker setup (that supports DTS), so there's really no inscentive for me to go to the theatres, other than seeing it "sooner".  So until I got my job, I rarely went to the theatres, unless it was something *huge*.
