I was looking forward to seeing this movie... although I always thought it would be kinda more of an action movie: I was pleasantly surprised with one of the better films of 2006 (speaking of which: I'm having a REALLY hard time making my top 10 list this year-- I loved 2005 personally).

It's a very smart drama (with some really awesome scenes centered around violence :P), and pure fun.  I haven't seen a movie this smart since... well, it's been less than a year, but all the same: make no mistake-- this movie is fantastic.

At one point, 'V' (the main character's nickname) starts quoting all these old, well-known philosiphers of government, and associates these attributes with the bad guys (ie. "he believes that the end justifies the means no matter what").  And it's very fun to watch... perfect comedic touches here and there, meaningful, political, philisophical(sp?), and just a whole lot of fun (although I despise the America-bashing... personally while this country isn't perfect, I'm proud to be an American, and I refuse to let others make my nationality diminish who I am).

I'd reccomend this for shizzle.

Now I just have to watch United 93 (just bought the DVD, but haven't seen it yet), and maybe it just may be another classic to end up on my top 10 list for 2006 (I haven't read any reviews for it yet, but it got a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes... so I can't see it turning out badly).

V was amazing, and ranks among my favorite movies. Also, as far as the american bashing...proud to be american or not, you should be able to take a little criticism, no? ;) America isnt' perfect, but that doesn't diminish you, it just diminishes what they think of your country, and what they think should really be of no consequence to you. Criticism can be a good thing, anywyas, it's silly to pretend that something is perfect when it's not, it's better to be aware of the flaws ;)

Oops. Didn't mean to turn that into a rant about not V. XD

Man, the last scene was so powerful. It was like - perfect, basically. I saw that movie twice in theatres, and the ending blew me away both times with how powerful and well done it was.

Although (as always) the british are quite exagerated, I must agree that this is a wonderful film. It's a fun, enjoyable action movie, while still a serious, intelligent drama with a nice twist of comedy. This film expressses how we really should go about destroying the monarchy... using a big bomb. lol.

Is that because 2006 was crap? Or because it was brilliant?

...I'll go with the former myself.

Because it was, is and will be crap.  (Here's praying for Eragon, All the King's Men and Flyboys to be good.)

Well there's always a spike in quality around autumn, that's assuming you pay attention to some of the smaller releases.

One thing I will say about this movie is that the first time you see it, it's !@#$% incredible.

Next few times you watch it, it loses its magic. It's because the way the story unfolds is awesome.

It was one of the better ones this year as you stated, I didn't really like Natalie Portman in it though she can very boring at times.
