Title: Triforce icon
Post by: Zaeranos on September 18, 2010, 02:26:08 pm
It is something that has already been there for a while, but I just can't get used to it. What I am talking about is the red/blue/green triforce symbol at the top of a tab. When I saw this the first time, I thought that it looked ugly. I didn't say anything because I thought that maybe I could get used to it. Now I have come to the conclusion that it is ugly and it remains ugly.

What is bad about it? Is it the Triforce symbol? No the symbol it self is rather fitting for Zelda community site. What the problem is is that the color, or better colors are wrong. They are so depressing. The triforce is also describe as "the golden triangles" or "the golden light". Nowhere I see the colors red, blue, green associated with the triforce anywhere (except maybe in the animated series, where Link continuously says "Excuuuuuuuuussssssssseeeeeee me, Princess!"). I know that those colors are associated with the goddesses, Ganon, Link, Zelda, Power, Wisdom and Courage. But the Triforce should be golden or yellow as in the games. Those colors just look depressing.

Okay, I just needed to get that off of my chest.

I think it sets ZFGC apart from the rest! The standard Triforce favicon is a common sight among Zelda forums.

I don't know about every Zelda fansite, but among the affiliates none of the have just a simple yellow/golden triforce symbol. All of them have something else or the triforce dressed up with other graphics. These colors just are depressing.

BTW: I just checked all the affiliates and Zelda Shrine and Zelda portal seem to be gone. Zelda Shrine is replaced by something called QwakSearch and Zelda Portal by a hosting site. Maybe it's a good idea to clean out the affiliates.

ZFGC used that favicon I think before the main site was brought back up and then it wasn't implemented back in until recently. I personally never had a problem with it and I'm glad it's been brought back and nobody had a problem with it when it was first put up.

Yeah, I'd remove Zelda Portal and Zelda Shrine from the affiliates. Zelda Portal is dead now and the owner of Zelda Shrine decided to make that search engine of his because he's really big on coding.

I've removed zelda shrine and zelda portal.  The icon that I've got in place there now was the last one we were using, I just happened to come across it and added it back in since we didn't have one.

How big is the icon? Just curious.

EDIT: 16x16. Can't you use this? Or if animated icons are allowed, use the second one.

(I did find some old zfgc logo and did resize it. I did not make this!)

I say a styleized (http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1395/tforce.png) triforce (http://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/Stitch1200/Triforce__the_Wallpaper_by_AceRa-1.jpg) is always nice.

If someone wants to make a better icon than feel free, just remember that it has to be in icon format.

And save it as an .ico file. Why?

Why would I do that:
Code: [Select]
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="#" />Supports any type of image and pretty much all browsers render it fine.

It's a gif, they don't support transparent levels. There either is something there or nothing.

I know it doesn't support transparent levels, which is why you need to turn the anti-aliasing off :P It looks horrid on darker themes.

The best icon would really be one that wasn't animated and was simple and to the point.

Make it spin about 50 time faster and change colors every second. It will be all in your face and will get attention like "yo i'm zfgc and i;m here, deal!!!". It will be the best favicon thingy ever

Icon is the only format that works across all major browsers.

There's nothing wrong with the current one though.

It's ugly and not really a good representation of zfgc.
