Title: OoT2D - The Original by TRM (New Graphics upgrades too)
Post by: TheRealMethuselah on December 15, 2006, 09:58:58 pm
I am aware of GM 7.0 and will be converting the game before the release of the Beta, I'm sure some of the newer functions will increase the speed of the game as well.

The game will be hosted at http://trmgames.com

I will be sending Mike 'TSA' Damiani the finished beta for his Speed Testing skills (you can find his speed run at http://speeddemosarchive.com/OcarinaOfTime.html ), it was instrumental in allowing me to make OoT2D as close to the original as possible.

The XML parser has been updated as well, and I still need more languages to be translated. Please download the file at http://barrashomes.com/english.xml and translate to the language of your choice.

You are not permitted to use the SubMenu/Map graphics in your projects.

A lot of the graphics/sprites have been updated, even some of these shown are not reflective of the ones used in the game and have since been updated.

I must say I'm in love with the Map! Have you updated the .xml file? What changes have you made to it? I don't wanna re-start again the translation. And GM7.0 won't be released until January, no chance for a beta before that?

Thanks AleX, I worked very hard on it. The .xml file is still the same, so no problem their.

I'm not going to post anymore screenshots as a mod here has informed me that I shouldn't sugar coat and build up my project anymore.

Dare why you're waiting until GM 7.0 is released? Seems petty when you're so close to finally showing what you have.

Looks good though, the updated graphics look swell as well. I look forward to playing a beta/Release Candidate when they're released.

I think I am now officially done with ZFGC.com and will not be posting HERE anymore... I will wait until my php forum is up and running on TRMgames.com

I know some of you will join me, some won't... oh well.

Sad to see you leaving ZFGC forever and curse that mod! I will defenitly join your forum.

Glad to see this back and being worked on. Hope to see it go somewhere. It's sad to hear you will be waiting for GM7 to complete this. What ever happened to the C# version?

To everyone: Please don't overdramatize this. Don't turn it into a flame war. If you don't have anything good to say, please just don't say it. Unless it is constructive, of course.

Its great to see this project back!  I thought you were gunna sneak away and not show up again..  Hehe..
Thanks for not doing that =)
I'm really interested in seeing this done, and I just wondered how you managed to get a good jumping system when you run off a ledge?  One thats not too sensative or whatever, or is there just a button to jump?

I was just about to ask that.  C# seems like a logical choice, especially if you've already have it started.  regardless, good show lad.  glad to see this train hasn't quite left the harbor yet  ;)

Cause he's waiting the Gamemaker 7.0, but he could put the C#. Why not?

Post by: TheRealMethuselah on December 15, 2006, 10:44:11 pm
The Mod who sent me the PM has informed me that he was not saying it in a demeaning manner so I guess I'll kick-it until the forums up.

The C#.net version had so many bugs that it was put on the back-burner to the GM version.

It will make a difference as 7 will be vista compatible. Also, I won't be releasing it now until it has been thouroughly beta tested and ran by TSA.

Do you have any idea when your forum is up?
I don't have much time these days to work on the forum YET... in a few weeks I'll have about three months of 'Free' time to get things up to speed as I will be waiting for assignment to my permanent duty station (hopefully either Germany or Japan)

No offense to Microsoft, or you, but have your used Vista?

If its not compatible with vista, it normally runs it emulated in some form of XP style. I highly doubt that many people will be using vista when vista first launches. Your game doesn't take up too much in terms of graphics and ram and things of such nature. Waiting for "vista" compatibility, like I said earlier, seems petty. :\

I'm still looking forward to playing it as I said earlier, I just think waiting for GM 7.0 is pointless at this point.

Why you need TSA that much? Lot of people has passed OOT many times, and you could have lot of beta testers, real testers...

Dude, you're finished, as you say, why not posting it? or anything like 1 screen of adult link? You think people will steal your graphics? Everyone will know it's yours, so nobody can't steal your graphics.

Man, seriously, stop waiting after nothing, and put it online...

[Mod Edit:] Careful, there. That was getting dangerously close to starting a flame war. You didn't flame, but this is a very touchy topic. This goes for everyone: Be careful what you say. If you start a flame war, consider yourself in big trouble.[/edit]

Actually, quite well... it's like being at school right now, except that the P.E. (PT) is a lot harder lol...

I head to PT at 0530 till 0630 then chow, shower, etc... 0830 class starts, 1130 lunch, 1700 (5 pm) off, weekends off too.

I'll be taking leave from the 20th through the 3rd of January ... I get married on the 28th (w00t)!

None taken, yes I currently run the beta of Vista (RTM) and it runs fairly smoothly... I'm concerned more with extended life of the project and speed... I know that 7.0 will be faster than 6.1 as it will probably run with either DirectX 9.0c or 10 which is native in Windows Vista.

All I can say to you is, calm down and read my last posts, in my own time.

If you had seen TSA's speed run joker, you would understand how much I do need his expertise... I suggest downloading and watching it, it will surprise and open up new avenues of gameplay you never knew existed in OoT

It's his game, he can release what he wants, when he wants.

Anywho, Looking good Dan, nice to see you here again. As always, take no notice of some of the comments you'll obviously (and always seem to) get :/. I too, like the menu-map screen, looks cool.

And if you still need help with the site thing, let me know mate.

I don't want that much his game, it's just that there's been so many things he waited and it was not necessary, and then, he's waiting for vista and GM 7. I mean, c'mon, post it. I'm doing too an oot 2d and when i'll get the forest done, i'll post a demo, so why don't you do the same?

And i did see TSA speed run...But I don't understand why you're waiting that long...

As everyone else said just let it lay, he has his plan figured out the way he'd like to release the game. I think the focus should switch back to the game itself. Not when/if/how/what/why he will release it.

About the speedruns, TRM may I suggest you watch the latest 2hours 33mins and 12seconds speedrun made by Erik Beisick (http://www.archive.org/details/ZeldaOoT-fluffy_kitten). It is more up to date with specific tricks of OoT, that TSA hadn't heard of when he released his speedrun. I've been looking at Erik's, and his is really amazing.

I also noticed a small graphical evolution, between the second and third screenshot you just posted, the table and chairs have changed! Nice to see some detailed progess.

I'm going to watch some of this speedrun then declare how loco you are over these little details..

Quite honestly I think the number of people complaining about the game taking so long to release is far greater than the number that will complain about hidden shortcut #163 not being included. But I know what it's like to get on a roll with perfection, it seems out of the question to stop early.

You sound busy.. take care yo'self.

Well, i'm not frustrated, i just want more infos as i said. Well, i got questions for you:

How epona will work? (The system, is it only like 4 directions, 4 sprites with animations?)
How place leveled up will work, like if you need the hookshot somewhere...

Other questions will come..

Anyway, glad to see you, pardon me if i look kinda annoying. How was your training? Wasn't it suppose to be longer?

Joker, what we're doing now is off topic, and not discussing the game. By me replying to you, I'm contradicting myself, and *shrugs* oh well. I have to at this point. You question was asked and answered, you keep pushing the issue, I'd drop it. TRM will release the game when he pleases, when he has the time. Leave it at that. If you have nothing more to say to generate actual conversation in this topic (or if anyone has no intentions of generating conversation to this topic) Do not post. Hence forth it will be *deleted* not edited. (in this topic only).

Epona has 8 directional movement, I use a red dot that takes over as the object that the view follows which can be moved around.

Looks cool. Army...I'm just gonna keep quiet about my feelings on that :D
Glad to see you are still alive, and a kid? I didn't know that. Married, good for you :P

Anyway, before the mod decides I'm too off-topic (they are really cracking down on this thread 8) ), time to talk about the game:

Looks really really really *deep breath* really really cool. I'm not gonna deny the possibility it's not real, but quite frankly I think TRM is spending too much effort on it for a scam, so whilst I'm not gonna wait up for this, I'm still hoping :D

In short - Looks great, if it plays as great as it looks then I fear the very fabric of the universe may be torn apart by it's awesomeness .

Looks great. The graphics from what i've seen look awesome.
Thanks Tom!

Will this beta be released to us?
Yes, it will... after TSA's input... then you can bug test till you're blue in the face.

A question that popped in my head some hours ago...
Are you still doing it with those menus, where you can choose your items, language, and such?
By the way, the translation is indeed hard, but I've been working on it ^^ Around 10% since yesterday's night...

well... i have to smile when i see every "welcome back trm" topic ( i mean those where he announce something after long time, every time ) you guys say "zfgc isnt about oot2d anymore" but everyone is a fanboy who goes back to TRM, when he shows you a little screen, demo or text. Nothing against TRM, but ZFGC is very OoT2D-Fanboy'ish... just have to see those Guy who announce "OoT2D DS" ( after TRM's idea of porting oot2d in his Mod-Demo Topic ) and that he changes it to "TWW 2D DS" shows that he wasnt even started and just a boy with an idea ( like many other remake ideas )... i swift out... well... anyways

TRM, good luck with your Project if you're make it in C++ too... and make something Unique in C++ after that... Custom RPG's are "too" rare in this board and a OoT Fan like you would make even a Non-Zelda Game as good as a game in Zelda Quality... ( no dont say something about that mmo you startet, but an single player ;-) )

edit: lol 2 topics made already

Nice to see you again Dan. I sure had my hopes up last time I seen you come around after a long period like this. But it doesn't matter I guess. I got more important issues in my life right now, like trying to make it worth wild... I wanna move to Australlia or china or something and enrole in Wushu. But anyways... On topic. ;D

I love the graphics updates on you're screens, the extra details are superb. The map looks freaking amazing! It really captures that beautiful 2D lttp kind of look. I really wasn't expecting it to turn out so nicely, so I'm pleasently suprised! The improvment when you compare these to you're original screenshots is quite unreal. And to think, I was so freaking obsessed over those old ones. Haha. If they are better yet then these ones I couldn't be happier. It looks really professional.

I gotta say though, I hope you have some time to do a little more work on the spider webs. As they stand, I don't really have a problem with them - they work. But that is pretty much the only thing I would improve in those screenshots. I think they need to fit in with the scenery more instead of having so much contrast between them and the backgrounds. They could use a little more grey "earthy" tones to them, that kind of blend into the walls more, and maybe be not so "gimicky looking?" Doesn't really matter though, I'm just trying to give constructive feedback. ;)

I'm eagerly awaiting the finished project as always~ Also waiting for the forums to be up. I'm really interested in seeing how the community turns out on them... Maybe it will be like zfgc was back in the old days, with that special spirit we had... I won't get on a kick about that again though. But that's what I am hoping. And hopefully it doesn't get run down by zfgc banter like when we first joined into dsr, and people can treat it like a new site that it is, rather then pretend like its another zfgc or something. And as long as nobody makes a stupid comment like "A delayed game is eventually good. But a bad game is bad forever" like has been said by at least a couple people in every single topic trm has made about this, then I don't have a problem waiting :P

Congrats on you're soon to be marriage by the way, and good luck with you're training and future work in th army. It must be nice to have something straight forwar din you're life and know you are moving in the right direction... I am still trying to find myself as a young adult. It's kind of depressing living in a small empty town you're whole life with no money and all you wanna do is do something meaningful in you're life and get out and see the world... Perhaps I should join the military as well... My brother said It would probably be the answer I'm looking for, and its full of oppertunity. But I hated the system in Army cadets.

Anyhow I'm bantering off topic again, and I apologize :P
Hope to see some more updates on you're project in the near future, and hopefully without to many delay's and sudden disappearances. Both my little brothers are also eagerly awaiting this project. They have been interested about it since day one, but they are a little to young, and unasociated with the internet to use the forums.

 Keep in touch!

You should put up a graphics comparison on trmgames.com or at least on here, like you used to have where it showed the difference between the original and the current graphics. That was cool xD The original ones were kind of laughable when you see these ones.

Sorry to correct you there, buddy, but...
Quote from: Wikipedia
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was originally developed for the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive (64DD), which would have afforded the developers 64MB of space. However, when the 64DD was repeatedly delayed, the game was then modified to fit on a 32MB cart. The cartridge shipped with 64DD "hooks" so that later additional content could be patched in using a 64DD disk.

However, the Master Quest released for the GameCube was most likely not the original release, as the 64DD version was supposed to do more than just change the dungeons; the Ura Zelda was also supposed to make the game longer, add dungeons, add items, add attacks and magic spells, and altogether expand the game.

Hey Just wondering... Once OOT2D is released, will we get to see a Zelda Classic type engine release so we can build our own quests off of it... because we really NEED a good zelda engine, and crappy zelda classic just wont cut it for things like Epona, the ocarina and other things

Not to speak for the guy, but I know he used to have a project that was a Zelda GameMaker, which I'm sure would use most of his OOT engine, though it would probably work so you'd never see his code.

Yes, my ZeldaMaker is still in development as well, it will support language packs and graphic/sound packs just like OoT2D.

I'm just confused on something: Is the whole game done in beta form, or is it at a certain point in beta form?  If the whole thing is done and in beta form, then it'll take time to work out bugs etc... so expect a later release date but sooner if it's not done yet as a whole.

Oh, I'm going for my Bachelor in Computer Science and I'm anxious to learn anything... I noticed that you've released a little of little things with GM, like tutorials and such, any chance of us seeing like things for C#?

He's said that TSA will receive the beta sometime after the new year. I don't think he'd mention new years if it wouldn't be fairly close to that. He also said he wanted to release it within the 13 weeks he's stationed at where he is now (i forget where <_>) so i'd say it'd be a good guess of end of january to the end of feb release window. But i don't want to answer for TRM, i'm just speculating.

One of the problems is that one person says something, then the other agree on it without finding proof. Some dude said he made up the Nintendo letter to get out of working on the game. Yahoo shut down his website, not Nintendo.

While TRM did announce a lot of delays and disappear a few times and a lot of people thought he was faking it I really do think those people are talking about Daz123 (who I still have a strong suspicion of being a fake) without realising that's who they were looking at.

Daz was the one who was always coming up with an excuse, then leaving for about 2 months and then repeating the same pattern for the past two and a half years, infact hasn't Daz now recently come back and said he just lost some data and has to start that part again?

TRM is a family-man, has a son, has a wife, he is in army, he is 18+, he works, he isn't a nerd that spends 12+ hours in front of forums, chats and games and I'm sure he doesn't needs people like me defending him, I'm just stating my opinion. He doesn't has the same free time and same life as most of you do.
His game is his project, his goal, and he does whatever he wants with it...
TheRealMethuselah inspired lots of peoples, lots of games, even inspired lots of people to "copy" him and remake 3D Zelda into 2D, like the 40+ OoT2D, 25+ MM2D and 10+ WW2D I've seen in my whole career as a member of ZFGC, indeed, sucha a great number of "copies" of his idea, like:
... And if not? Anyway, your OOT2D++ Joker is much better ^^!
And if OoT2D isn't true, what are the possibilities of every single one of the others are real?
Anyways, even if OoT2D isn't true, I must thank it, it created ZFGC, joined us all together. I learned lots of things here: on programming, on gaming, on real-life, I made friends here (and I'm sure I'm not the only one), I enjoy being here, I can develop my English skills, I have a forum where I can go everyday and have fun moments here, and lots of things most forums don't do. I'm a old-skool ZFGCer and proud of it, I like this place, I'm sticking to this place... I have a great debt to Daniel for all this and I'm sure there's no way I can ever pay him. Thanks Daniel ^^
Hope someone has taken his/her time reading this and learned/understood something...

By the way, my apologizes TRM. The translation's still 50% :\ Never thought it had that much of talks since the first time I saw the file ;P

you are such an idiot, just because he supposedly started a zelda fan board doesnt justify his dumbass running around every year announcing his fake game that never existed launching soon when its been 3 years since he said it was supposed to come out, ban him. There are thousands of other forums you can go to that are the same exact thing as this. only difference with this one is that its filled with idiots posting their fake photoshopped screenshots promising a game that is not real for the past 5 years.

Not that i know its true, but its Ocarina of Time, the game is huge, one man making it in 2D isn't going to take a year, he is trying to implement everything from the original game.

I don't mind people debating the authenticity of oot2d, although its always the same thing, I personally think trm is at the point he has to start facing it.
just lay off the insults a bit please deku

(surprised no one registered that name before you)

If he has to face it, flood his PM box with it, not a topic about the game itself.

with the amount of guests lately, some public confrontation will probably deter other people from causing trouble

Deku is right, he has to face it someday! He said he's annoyed by people who call his work mockups, so why don't  he do something...  He made a topic to talk about his game, so he has to talk about it and show improvement and real stuff.

I'm bored of all the people who says he can do whatever he wants. Damn, he opens topic, but dissapear for a while, come back with some bad excuses, and then some of you guys continue to lick his ass. Everybody can tell their opinions about the game, every maker knows that. You receive some bad comments ? Then do something !@#$%, prove us that we're wrong.

So everybody who says to not post these kind of comments, you're wrong. It comes with a topic. That's it! Now if he plans to face it, it's up to him!

Honestly, he has been at that point ever since the whole "they took my website down!"-scam.

Why should he need to prove the un-believers anything? Also if you don't believe him why don't you just ignore his topic?

I believe TRM however after seeing all the bad comments here and every other website this has been posted on I think TRM has to start showing more proof its real (I think the new screens are proof enough) like a trailer, that shows a lot of new places like the water temple that we havn't seen in oot2d before.

Where has TRM gone?

Oy you people need to read the topics before posting in them... He is a newlywed now so don't expect anything for a while....

Ok, I want to get this point across to everyone: This is a topic for a fan game.

Not discussion if its real or not, not discussion of TRM, but a discussion of the game itself.

That includes Constructive Critizism and Other suggestions/ ideas you may have. We have no control over what he does, or does not, release so get over it, he'll do what he wants. This topic has become flooded with the pointless "Is it real?" arguements and flames which goes completely off-topic. If a serious redirection of conversation is not undertaken I'm not afraid to lock this until we hear otherwise from TRM if he ever pops his head back in. Got it? Good.

Btw- If I seem bitchy I'm working on college applications and have a low stupid tolerance atm.  >:(

hum, well I personally think that if it is real and not just mock ups then he has about 3 more years of work to go because there is way to much !@#$% in OOT for one person to do in 5 years of on and off for a really long time and on again.

Ok you want us to talk about the game? What you want to talk about? We got same screens for years, and he opens a topic every time with nothing man. There's nothing we can talk about.

Here's a hint, I'm TRM. Ok guys the game's finished, it will be released SOON, but when i'm come back of the training.
Hey guys, I'm back of the training, and i'll release the game as soon as i can. But tommorow, i'm going to be married.
I have to pass the game to TSA so he can explore it. Then after you'll get the game...

He didn't said he was gonna post a funkin trailer? So damn post it if you want us to talk about your game. Don't open a freakin topic if you have nothing to show, it's absolutely stupid. When you open a topic, it's to talk about the game and show some improvements. The ''real'' and ''non-real''  stuff IS about the game. You just say that cause you protect TRM in a way. Lots of sites talk about the game, then you have to DO something, not just come here and say a million times that the game will be released soon.

Why i'm getting mad, it's because this topic caught so much attention, but got nothing. Those who come here, why don't you go see the other topic where people work hard  to produce and show proof.

Anyway, this stupid process for this game has been around 4 years now, and some people still lick Barras's ass. I can't believe it...

TRM actually only made an announcement about his game. He never actually asked us to discuss the game. If you can't take this, I suggest you should leave the topic.

Listen, we're not protecting TRM. We are aware that this project doesn't show much process. We know that there're people here, pushing it up, because it's what got ZFGC started, and because we got some hyping fanboys here. (Not offending anybody directly here). What are we supposed to do? Lock this topic for no reason?

Look, I'm not trying to play you down, you ARE right in some points, but if you can't take that OoT2D is still not released, you should not bother to check for it. TRM didn't promise you he would ever even finish the game, did he? I mean, PROMISE. He never did that.

... I'm pretty confident he WILL though.

My point is just that you shouldn't be acting like your life depends on it. Have a cup'o tea and wait.

My life is not depending on it, what i'm trying to say is that he says for about 4 years that we should have a demo 4 soon, and now it's the game itself who's finished.

I'm just sick of all the people who put their attention closely to this topic when it shows nothing. Some people on this forums works really hard evry day to show you their improvements, and receive like 2 comments... That's what make me angry...

He said he would release it after January 1st (whetever that means) when TSA tests it, so I'm expecting from January 1st-3rd TSA will have played it and TRM then uploads it here, its about 30-50 mb or whatever it was, so that takes less then a day, hooray we have oot2d on the 4th of January!!!

That is what I would love to have happened, but you know, its oot2d, despite the fact that the above makes absolute sense, like all the other dates and timing that I've done based on what TRM has said every few months for the past 4 years.

I'm not saying TRM is a fake, I believe him, however the waiting has been taken too far by about a year and a half now. All the "your not patient enough" people are boring me incredibly, have been since one and a half years ago, yeah I'm not patient enough, if I was whining only a year after the project started.

On all the sites the new screens have been posted, there have been comments, including people here who say that TRM makes horribly crappy excuses every few months and leaves all the time to get away with it, true he does come for a few months, says its not ready for a reason, goes for a few months and comes back, however the only one who you can really tell is faking it is Daz123, don't deny it if TRM is faking it then Daz might as well have sent us a really crappy zelda stickman flash game that flashes "HA I TRICKED YOU ALL!!!! LOOK WHAT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THE PAST 3 YEARS" every second so you can't even play the flash game.

Daz stays on the forums for a WAY WAY WAY shorter time, comes up with the REALLY bad excuses and then leaves for like 6 months a time. TRM has always said its not ready for good reasons, things taking long to program (he's showed us screens from whatever program he was using at the time making oot2d which is more proof), the army, his myspace is proof he is in the army, and other things, Daz on the other hand says "oh noez it bwoke" and "I appear to have lost it, oh well time to start again" and then scarpers, according to daz he's lost his oot2d game memory so many times its no wonder he's still stuck in the deku tree since the past 3 years. Or he's faking it, which is what I believe.

Give TRM a brake.

This topic has honestly become a useless waste of 14 pages of posts that just go and make people mad over something that is really meaningless, Its a game...get over it. I'm locking this topic untill TRM ACTUALLY has updates (or if the mod team thinks otherwise >.>) so you all can all actually flame over something new for a change >.<

Lock'd
