Basically, I want to make all my screenshots animated. Mainly because it'll clean up topic space from now on. Anyway, you know how a GIF is normally used for walking animation sprites?

Yeh well I need to find a program that does that but doesn't ruin the screenshots

Is there anything that I can use which is free?

It really depends on the amount of frames that are going to be in the animation.  Since the animations that I do even for simple animated screenshots do not have that many frames, I use AnimGet, then take all of the frames to make an animation by putting them into a sprite in Game Maker then saving them as a GIF, I then use MS Gif Animator so that it loops.

If you screenshots contain a lot of frames and you still want to save topic space, I would suggest just making them videos, uploading them to something like YouTube, and then showing them as embedded.  Screenshots do not have to be perfect, their use is really just to give the general idea.

I pick the part of the game that I want to "record" and then I set the observation on Animget so that it saves images of the game as it is running.  I use it just to get the frames.  I have to use another tool (Game Maker) to make the images into GIF format because Animget saves the images as BMP.
