Title: 3D Stuff by Tlozpop
Post by: Tlozpop on January 07, 2009, 03:30:03 pm
I wanted to improve my 3d modeling skills (the few I had) so here is the beginning of the church from A Link to the Past based on this artwork: http://thehylia.com/media/albums/images/alttp/scene_36.jpg
(http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1410/church3kb3.th.png) (http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1410/church3kb3.png)
I did this in Low poly modeling with 3Dsmax 2008
Some opinions?
See you later for some updates.

I'd like it but it's allready hard enought for me to program in 2D, I can't imagine with 3D...

Just offer your services to someone who programs 3d games :3

There's quite a few members around here who can do 3D. DevoutWeasel can program in 3D (I think) and you have the skill for the art. LttP 3D!

No, I don't have the skill to do a full 3D game yet. Later I wish...

So, update!

First go in texturing, it needs some more work and I'll have to change some things but I was sick of that grey.
I have also added the little bricks in the bottom and cleaned up windows and doors a bit.

I think the majority of artists and a fair few of the programmers can model to one degree or another.

Actually I believe DFOTW is a graphics artists, he's not a programmer.

Anyhow, very awesome. Now make a game out of it and I'll crown you king of this place.

Amazing wow I could see this easily being in an lttp 3d game or maybe even a Zelda cgi movie.

Also, I was wondering what program are you using?

I am using 3D Studio Max 2008.
What is a Zelda cgi movie?

It's almost finished now.

I've started some other things I'll may show you in few times... if you are nice.
Also I'm currently rendering a 30s video of the church to truly see it in 3D, but it say there is still 7h23 remaining :o, so you'll have to wait a bit.

Oooohhh. looks realy nice, tho something about the roof... just doesn't look right... Might just be me =/

The thatching on the roof should look more like tiles. Something about it looks off. The rest is amazing though!

Yeah the roof does look a bit weird, but it could just be the color of it or the angle..

It is looking great!! Also, I accidentaly put that i there. (That is what I get for posting before bed) I meant a CG(Computer Graphic) Movie. Such as Advent Children etc.

Ah ok. I'm not sure about a movie, but maybe some short clips.

About the roof, there is nothing that hurt me on this picture, but maybe you're right but I can't take some other shots (11h15 remaining :'( for 23,5% done) and now you said it doesn't work I don't remember if that was the same on other angle.
This is a roof texture from TP's castletown quickly recoloured in blue.
I guess I'll have to make my own.

Lol is your PC not that great or did you use million segments? :o
Title: Re: 3D Stuff by Tlozpop

My PC is just powerful enought to run a game like Assassin's parkour but 3dsmax rendering is a lot more advanced than a game engine. And I used advanced lighting and shadows and the textures I've made myself are really HD.

I don't know how many segment there are. Less than 500 I think, look there:

Edit=>
I have took a better picture from the rendering window.
Better? ( hmm shadows are pretty black on that side....)

Looks nice :D Although my beef involve the windows on the side D: the front ones and the side ones should be level... Otherwise it's architecturally awkward D:
Title: Re: 3D Stuff by Tlozpop
Post by: Tlozpop on January 16, 2009, 08:57:30 pm
They are not level on the artwork... so I did it like this.
Even if I haven't kept the same proportions. So that may not look right. But the objective was to improve my skills, not to make something totally usable. I'll do some change if I find some use for this a day.

So the video is here, I find it not that great for the time it took to render, but that was only to show you a moving version.
Next time I'll optimise it to be faster.
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=-5O3We0nLJw You can see it in HD on Youtube.

Haha, nice ending ;)
The backside looked very "plain" after looking at the detailed frontside =P

Post by: TanukiMario on January 17, 2009, 02:31:47 am
Yeah, I thought the "ending" was a nice tough as well. The roof also when looking at it in a full circle doesn't look all that bad although I still don't think it would be a bad thing if you did change the color of the roof or maybe make it so that the "panels" of the roof are closer together and not so wide apart.

After seeing the roof from the sides, it's pretty good. I agree that it needs to be crammed together a bit more.
