I've been listening to tool... since well right around they popped into the music scene and I was a little !@#$% who didn't know what he was listening to lol
but seriously; Maynard has some of the most... thought out lyrics. Very great songs with tons of meaning :o
:( Lately though I've been hearing about a lot of Tool haters D: whyyy
-
Why does everyone hate Tool so much? CAUSE THEIR TOOLS LOLOLOLOL.
Never heard much of them.
-
Heard of them when an Evans Blue song was compared to their style once, had no reason to seek them out (despite it an awesome Evans Blue song), may do so some day, typing like this because really can't be bothered to type full sentences, kthxbai.

I'll tell you why,
Creepy music videos. That's why. ;_;
-
The same ways that people can dislike any other band; people have different tastes.
I was wondering where Parabola was, but it was at the bottom so you're all set. ;)
-
I don't hate Tool, but I don't love them.
And although they do have good lyrics, there are better out there.
-
few more of my favorite songs-

I can. Because I don't even really listen to music.

Oh well you're awesome anyway
-
I used to really be into Tool.
I still listen to them, but not nearly as much as I used to.
Lateralus is a !@#$% amazing album though.

THE TIME
HAS
COME
TO
PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
That's all I have to say there. XD Know Your Enemy would never be the same without Maynard.
I'll give these guys a listen to tomorrow, since it's 00:30-ish on a school night.
-
i thought you meant maynard ferguson at first. man i miss that fat, canadian drunk, trumpet god
lol, but tool is pretty good. if theyre on the radio ill give a listen
-
Danny Carey is my !@#$% idol.
Lateralus is like, ear sex, hardcore ear sex.
also maynard's voice = god.
-
Agreed on all counts. My brother's seen them in concert (lucky !@#$%). Still, a great band, and all the songs you mentioned are great, Mammy. Also, Prison Sex. Messed up song, but it's good. Also, Eulogy and H. Great songs as well. Heck, they're all great.
-
Long, repetetive, poor EQ'd arrangements with unnecessarily odd time signatures.
-
Really? I respect your opinion, but really? The songs may be long, but they need to be that long. The music itself is quite orgasmic, but with the lyrics thrown in as well, the song transcends normal music and becomes... something else entirely. And that is a very good thing. They aren't mainstream, they weren't really meant for mainstream. But the band is really awesome. While on the subject, I'm gonna briefly mention APC. Shorter songs, but still quite awesome.
-
I dono, I never found Tool to have particularly long songs.
I have no problems with the EQ at all.
I agree sometimes it seems like its odd time for the sake of it, but other times the odd time signatures give the songs their odd feel.
-
What I think throws a lot of people off is that they treat the lyrics as another instrument, they have no 'front man'.

I'm assuming you listened to schism and stopped listening... because their songs are average size bro <_<;; Theres only a couple that exceed like 5 minutes.
-
The only thing that comes close is Puscifer:

Yes, that's the guy who wrote "Wings For Marie". (Language warning)

IIRC there isn't a single song on 10,000 Days that's under 5 minutes. Excluding the intermission and intro tracks, they average about 6 to 12 minutes. But they go by quickly, whatever repetition there might be feels natural and goes pretty unnoticed because of how their songs develop through that time. For example Vicarious is one of the rare Tool songs to have a chorus, and it's only heard 3 times in 7+ minutes, and sung differently each time because the song keeps taking the listener different places.
they have no 'front man'.
That's pretty true, I saw them in concert last year and the singer stayed at the back of the stage the whole time.

10,000 days is new tool though; little different from the stuff I'm referencing :P

Well obviously some people do not like Band tool because it's not their taste. But I know it's hard to imagine when you like it.
