You do know that all PS3s are back-compatible with PS1 games, right?

Mm. Me too. Maybe Sony will give us software emulation in a firmware update someday.

a bit off topic; but the reason you can't play your PS2 games *anymore* is because of the open license :s

Open license? I thought it came down to Sony cutting costs by scraping the whatchamacallit that was basically a PS2 inside of the PS3.

You really aren't missing much. And there's much easier ways to get it. I bought my PS1 back in 7th grade for $20-$30. Just grab a greatest hits edition and you're set. you don't have to plug away $400+ on the big black behemoth.

Or "obtain" it another way.

If he wants the PS3 for any other reason besides FFVII, it's a better choice. It's impossible to find any version of FFVII for under $50 nowadays. Ever since Cloud appeared in Kingdom Hearts and SquEnix started whoring the !@#$% out of VII the prices have gone way up.

Meh I'd just rather have it as a digital copy so I could take it on my PSP and wouldn't ever half to worry about breaking or losing a disc. And without "obtaining" it the other way.

Since I got the game legitly 10 years ago I'd rather take my disc and make an ISO, place it on my CFW'd PSP. That saves money and time >_>..

FFVII is pretty "meh" to me. FFIX is a different story. Although I have FFIX in near mint condition, I wouldn't mind buying it from the PSN store just to put on my PSP.

FFVII is not a bad game at all. The story is interesting despite Cloud being a bit of an emo, and the world is really well-constructed and has some real originality to it. I also thought the materia system was a lot of fun to mess around with.

That being said, it's far from the best game ever made. Play it expecting that.

How do you know it sucks if you've never played it?

Should have added "on my psp".

I've played it and it sucks, IMO. The game is way overrated and needs to stop being milked so much.

I wouldn't mind a little milking here and there, but seriously, lol Squenix.

I sort of agree. The game IS indeed, over credited. Looking at it now really doesn't make it live up to its real name. The computer versions flaws only encompass around its support for graphical processing units. It has conflicts with newer ones. Albeit, there are bypassing schemes to fix these issues. The bone of contention remains only in ones assumption. Although; that's just my opinion.
