Would you believe I've never had a reason to lie about my age, the situation of buying alcohol has simply never come up for me personally, and I practically never go to the movies.
It's not about whether I needed any alcohol, it's about making yourself feel big. On my birthday, I purposely went to a liquor store wearing school uniform so that they'd have to ID me.

I go to the pub all the time, it's just I wanted to be ID checked for once...

Reviewers aren't always right. Starfox Adventures got 90+% scores from most reviewers when it was released, and didn't deserve more than 70% or so at the most.
Interesting, I thought it was the other way around.

If it weren't for the un-originality of most of the puzzles.

Being 18 I'm now legally allowed to buy alcohol here in Britainland.

So the other day I was in the pub and I went to buy everyone a round and they didn't even ID check me.

Anticlimax or what?

If you can get a decent quality image or a normal sized poster and take it to a printing place, they should be able to photocopy it over several sheets of A1.

I'd assume it's the move_contact that's your problem.

If you want them to turn around when they collide, just have a collision with itself as changing direction, being solid shouldn't affect that. If it's not working, it might be that both of them are calling the code, and changing direction twice, or something like that.

If the worst comes to the worst, it may be worth trying to separate collisions with blocks from collisions with other gombas. Remember you can changing whether they're solid dynamically using something like with (obj_gomba) {solid=0} and changing it back at the end of the code. You'll have to experiment.

Have you considered trying to organise something with a local RSPCA rescue centre or something? They'd be caring for the animals, people could pay to 'sponsor' one of them, rather than 'owning' it entirely. Yes, some of the interaction would be lost, but it would be self sufficient no matter what, you'd simply be giving them a share of the profits.

Not only that, but people would know the money is being put towards a good foundation rather than a bunch of cages in some guy's bedroom.

You've all got the wrong idea. It's a good idea, but it's not the internet way of going about it!

Buy one pet, film it for a couple of days, and base all of the "webcam" footage off of clips combined from it. Obviously you'd need to get a couple, and a whole lot of footage for people to believe they're different animals, but in the long run it's the only way of doing it. All their stats would be handled digitally, and this way, they could even have "Health statistics" and "Affection levels" and so on that are set by the server based on how often you come online and so on.

They could even "die" and so on. After you're on good ground, you could buy a load of puppies and film them at different ages, and add all the footage to the database and blah blah blah.

Reminds me of that virtual fish screen saver.

I'm not offended by it, 's just it messes up my crappy computer with crappy internet.
Interesting how people are ignoring you on this one. There used to be a rule about images over a certain size - Swiftu's animation is over a megabyte.

Graphics / Re: BMPs and PNGs
« on: September 18, 2008, 03:28:32 pm »
I would very strongly recommend GIFs. It's a lossless format, and while limited to 256 colours, the pallet can be defined by you, and for sprites you'll almost never need more than that.

I don't think many people realise how big bmp files are. A single screenshot of a 1024x768 desktop, in bmp, will be about 2.3mb, whereas in GIF/PNG it'll probably be less than a hundered kb.

You wouldn't want to be ill in Brighton, it's got the highest concentration of gays in the country! And my friend's from Brighton so I take the !@#$% out of him all the time.

And you don't want to be ill in Manchester, you gotta go visit the Jewish Ghetto. It's funny cause they all have beards and dress silly.

a.) Everyone says Twilight Princess is !@#$%.
b.) Ever since you played the better (best) Zelda-games, you have a standard. From that point on, every Zelda-game that is only slightly worse is instantly bad.
Actually, I went for months thinking I was the only person in the world who was disappointed in it.

It wasn't the fact it wasn't as good as the other zelda games, it was because I felt cheated by it. Almost none of the content of the original trailer made it into the final game. It wasn't just a mediocre zelda game, it was lacking every single thing I'd appreciated about their earlier games. It felt like a different company had made it, and angled it towards different people.

This was well before I'd head anything bad about it, all I'd heard so far were good reviews - which maybe had got my hopes up too much.

I gave up on Nintendo after they called their console the "wii" and gave it a stupid controller.
The name was announced a long time after the controller was. It was the name that made you give up on it? Seriously?

If it is, that seems a bit silly...
The controller fine, Its not for everyone. But basing it off a name?
"Lord of the Rings" sound lame but the books/films are awesome.

"Lord of the Rings" sounds and always did sound epic and awesome, well before I'd read the books, well before the films came out.

I could deal with it being called the wii though. What actually made me give up on nintendo was Twilight Princess, that was so disappointing I basically lost all faith in their games from then on.

PHP is your best bet, if you're still on dayjo's server then it's already installed, and it's very simple and easy to learn.

If all you want is to log votes and IPs, you could do a simple thing storing them in a text file, or you could use MySQL, which is what, for instance, SMF uses.

While you're at it, you could write yourself a nifty little uploader script which would update the site automatically. They're not too hard to make, and if you're updating all the time it's very handy to be able to just use a web based form, rather than FTP.

Anway, the place to start is www.php.net . There's tutorials and the entire function reference there.

For your second question, what do you mean, "best"?

Using a separate sprite for the shield will take time to line up and stuff like that but will take up less space in the final game because there'll be less total images. On the other hand, using a complete new set of sprites will be quick, but you'll have all the animations twice, wasting memory.

You want to have it insert the image code on queue? You could just define a function that inserts it and calls that.

If you want to change the image src dynamically you need to give the image an id and refer to it through that, or put all the code in the image tag's events and use this.src=...

Other Projects / Re: Sudoku!
« on: September 04, 2008, 07:03:16 pm »
It won't be a real sudoku game until the board can solve itself while rotating behind the title screen. (shameless plug)

Alternatively, here's some suggestions:
Use shapes/colours instead of numbers, to confuse
Use a word instead of numbers, each letter being a number, so that you accidentally spell out anagrams
Add a sudoku solver. You input the numbers to start it off, it gives you the answers
Sudoku 3D. As in fancy graphics.
Sudoku 3D as in a 3 dimentional matrix - difficult to display, let alone solve
Sudoku 2D, the 2D remake of Sudoku 3D. You wouldn't actually release this, you'd just keep posting how close you are to finishing demo 4.
