I'm just dropping in here to say that this project kicks some serious ass.

Carry on

I agree.

While it's a decent suggestion, you might want to do your research before claiming that every Zelda game shows the sword button in the HUD.  Link to the Past and Adventure of Link off the top of my head do not have this. At that point you may as well assume the user is dumb and put every single possible action on the screen and flood it.

Oh rightttt.  I totally forgot that they don't show the sword in those two games!!! xD

Woah.  I thought this was a one man project!! :o I didn't know there was a full team.  Good job! :) It's so hard in my opinion to work over the internet.  I just can't collab with people.  You guys are doing an amazing job.

Thank you so much for the engine demo.  The game is very solid so far!! ^-^

I have one complaint and it's just the sword.  Normally, every Zelda games shows the sword in the HUD so we won't forget what button It is.  Obviously, it's not a big a deal.  Just something I've noticed. ;o

No reason to buy the full version of Game Maker: Studio because they have raised enough money to cut out the light version and replace it with a standard version.  Standard version comes with all GML.

Unfortunately, it will export files for Android, or HTML5.  Though, it doesn't even matter because HEY you can make a full game with all of the helpful features for spiriting and text editing (just won't get the super special features).

Though, I hope your windows version is up to date because GM6 games crashes on Windows Vista-8.1. :( luckily they made a heck tool to convert the files (yoyogame's heck tool, so it's trusty to use), so that you can play on the modern and supported windows operating systems.  :)

Also, Game Maker: Studio has major issues when importing old games. :( So, I don't recommend importing your game into GM: Studio.  But yeah if GM5 works for modern Windows then it won't matter. x3

Actually, I know how to use it well.  It's just that I am unable to use all of my programs that I need to use for making games that wine will not run correctly. :(

I like Ubuntu, but if they had all the same software that windows have, then I'd use Ubuntu!!

The menu looks alright, but the HUD is not going to work. No matter how much you shift it around. The icons of the buttons are way to big and just obstruct the view. I also think that a mini map in a 2D game does not fit. In 3D games the minimap is used for navigation, because it is possbile to get lost when the camera turns around in all the action. In a 2D game you can´t get lost, because the view is fixed and up will always be up. Thus it only obstructs the view, especially when it is completely opaque like yours.

I disagree.  I honestly liked the old HUD better.  It was nice and it just shaped up.  I think the HUD was never a problem to begin with, it was nicely shaped. ^_^

If you look at the recent videos I've made, there is a new HUD. At the time when I modified both engines and put them together, I had to pick which HUD to use; like which HUD object to display/use in game.
Plus the new HUD was easier to add/remove coding o the point I made it mimic how LTTP had that drag down menu. dlbrooks33 had the code already there, but I modified it whenever I felt like adding or changing something.
The recent HUD had been updated and a secondary meter was added under the fatigue meter, it represents the energy Link gets from collecting Sol Fragments.

This is a random video I made in the past showing you what it use to look like, vs now, which I haven't posted any screens of it on wiki yet.

Oh.  No, I thought new HUD was the new one. xD I mean, I thought the old version was the "new hud", and that the old one was in the videos.  I was like, "Whaatttt! It looks great guys."  Anyways, I am glad  I found this game on here again because I couldn't find it on Zelda projects.  Then I come back here and find it.  Confusion.  Anyways, it looks amazinggggg.  Like, my favorite project so far.  It looks so good. ^,- I can't wait for a demo!!

Discussion / Legend of Zelda: Silent Echoes --- Ideas
« on: August 24, 2014, 05:34:19 am »
So, I released a post about an upcoming game that I have been working on which got deleted. (The file did, not the post).
FYI, never try to use Linux if you are a Windows person.

Anyways, I have been rethinking the graphics.  For all of my years using Game Maker, I've been using GBC tiles because they're easy to use.  I love them.  But, I don't want to use GBC on this project because it doesn't fit.  It's not how I want it.  So, I have a question to nice, helpful people. Can you make a tutorial on how to properly use MC's tile sets because when I map with them it turns out hideous.  Ew, no.  I want my game to look beautiful! :) It'd be nice if people would do tutorials on that, using proper techniques.

I got my game idea from LOZ: Shadowgazer.  I loved the ideas in that game, and then it really inspired me to make Zelda: Silent Echoes.  What I am going to do with it will hopefully blow your minds.  I am going to attempt to make Silent Echoes as stable as I can.  I will be using HUB sprites that won't be mine (credit will be given of course).  Just to let you know, anyways. I will now put spoilers for people who like spoilers.  But this will give away the secret portal (which won't be much of a secret anyways in the playable demo).  Though, for people who really, really don't wanna see what the portal to Twilight is then don't look.

In Silent Echoes, Link will be sleeping a lot.  The concept is a bit similar to LOZ: Link's Awakening.  However, Link uses his dreams to enter the Twilight realm.

That's all the spoilers you get, and that was a somewhat big one.  I hope you to see some tutorials on how to properly map Minish cap! ^-^

This is very promising.
I am liking it a lot.  I like the basic HUD, too.  It really makes it come together quite well.  I hope for a demo soon? ^-^

That was rude.  I don't I want to continue being a user here if I am going to get that disrespect.

Also, to sirbrownie, thank you for validating my opinion about the controls. :)

...what? XD If you think this is me being disrespectful and rude, you don't...know me. You don't ever want to see me be rude because I guarantee you it will make you feel pitiful, and I don't like doing that to people without reason.

I want to clarify: your opinion on controls is valid. I was just pointing out that the developer's controls are equally valid. I'm trying to inform you that this is a standard and it works as well. Personally, I feel like these controls for this type of game work better because, as a right-handed person, I rest my right hand either on my mouse or on the right side of my keyboard and the left hand on the left side of the keyboard. Hence why wasd + space (thumb resting on space) works naturally for me. It was awkward at first, yes, but things like this come with time. I could not play with arrow keys.

Bring the problem up directly with me next time, alright? I'm a very cute, bubbly, adult woman who likes games, programming (oh hey I'm a game developer btw what up), and probably a lot of other really fun things that make people happy so don't feel scared to confront me.

Well sure you didn't use hurtful words, but putting "end of discussion" at the end because I disagreed with you isn't very polite.  Anyways, I forgive you.  It made me mad, that's all I am saying. v-v

WASD + space bar is used in several games. Just fyi.

Also why would you put two bullet points if they're exactly the same thing?

And what games would those be?
They are also not the same thing and they aren't bullet points.

I agree with Lzard.  :o

-The controls would be fine if space bar wasn't used.  WASD+Space bar feels really awkward. So I'd prefer the arrow keys, please!
-I have no other cons to report.  It feels weird playing with WASD and space bar.

The whole game can be played with your XBox 360 controller now, just connect it before you have started the game. Have a try, here are the controls:

Might you switch around the item set on X to make the sword set to X instead? In GC era Zelda games you would have the items set to X & Y which were closer to the locations of Y and B on an Xbox controller. Not to mention, X is the standard attack button on nearly all Xbox action games.

Even though that's true, the controls look like it was meant to be like Nintendo's, where B is the sword, and A is the action button.

Oh my goodness!  I am going to cry with joy! :)

What do you mean you need 2D spriters for, though? I feel like you don't need any spriters because it already looks good.  I really hope this isn't a attempt to steal sprites! >:C Though, I doubt you would! :)) I won't question you no more...please, please, make a demo soon. qq

 XD :D

Yayyy!
Also, does this website seem low on people? Is it dying? :( Because I know people would be like ":oooo amazing!"

The site looks really nice :) I do like the color scheme.  However I think the font (the actual text, not the banners) is too small (as I have poor vision and it kind of hurts my eyes to read it).  Other than not being able to reply to any current, or make any new posts.  The site looks great!! ^_^

I am sorry for your poor vision.  But the text is readable.  It's medium sized, and quite bold.

Hello dear Zelda fans and gamers!

Long time no see! Our team has been busy in real life lately, and we had to take a break from working on Project Zelda Engine! Thus, we didn't had time to resume work on it!

But we are back now! We decided to take down our old PZE Official Web Site because its domain (host) was premium (it was not free, required a monthly fee) to keep it on. So we created a new PZE official site on a free domain! All thanks to Chakanevil for his hard work!

People can now visit us here, on our new PZE Official Web Site, at:
www.p-z-e.net

I read your comments, and I shall assure you, what Mirby said is true - there have been no legal issues or whatever behind the closure of our old PZE site. The closure was done for financial reasons (we cannot afford paying every month money to premium servers).

Now the new website is up, and we can't wait to hear your opinions about the new look and layout used for the new website! :)
Share your opinions with us! :)

Edit: as for the www.rpgrevolution.com site, I have bad news. The site is shut down forever! :( People can read the message regarding the fate of the site in the RPGRevolution's facebook fan page of at:
https://www.facebook.com/rpgrevolution

yay!
