I wish I could say something more substantial other than awesome job on all the effort you make and progress you do.

Discussion / Re: Legend of Zelda and Soul Blazer Collaboration?
« on: September 13, 2021, 11:42:54 pm »
I haven't played Soul Blazer yet but the nature of Enix SNES games in that "trilogy" (specifically Illusion of Gaia/Time) had elements skin to Zelda that I liked; namely the music and characters. For some reason it's just easier for me to *want* to follow the character/NPC stories because they are introduced subtlety but leave a lasting impression. Concepts from Enix games would breathe a lot of fresh life into Legend of Zelda beyond the Zelda tropes.

Zelda Projects / Re: [Game] The Legend of Zelda: Black Crown
« on: April 02, 2021, 05:23:08 pm »
I recently downloaded the most recent version of Black Crown (posted in 2020), and I'm getting a "Microsoft .NET needs to be installed. Would you like to download it?", which takes me to Microsoft's .NET download page for 4.8. But the thing is, I already have the most recent version of .NET installed.

I moved your topic into the main one. One could call that grave-digging given how the last post was in July 2020 but it's relevant to the topic. Unfortunately I am not knowledgeable about the .NET issue you are encountering.

Welcome back. I really love the look and polish you have put into this game; the third quest idea and the Zelda, Justin, and Bailey characters are also unique and interesting additions. Best of luck to you with this project.

Discussion / Photobucket / Broken Links
« on: May 24, 2019, 04:37:48 pm »
If any of you had used Photobucket in the past, your old accounts with images may soon change. I recently got emails from them talking about reducing the number of image stored in my account and also that I have exceeded their bandwidth - to where if I did not reduce my usage or pay them a monthly fee that my images would be watermarked or made inaccessible.

My main point is to say that if anyone else uses Photobucket as a free image host (e.g., you have images in a Photobucket account that you link to for a project/game or sprite here), you may want to download them from Photobucket and reupload here or elsewhere. It would be sad to see sprites or spritesheets ruined by watermark or to lose that history. The easiest way to download all images off of Photobucket for me was to download the Photobucket app off of the Android Play store (it gives you an option to mass download entire albums instead of picture by picture).

I don't know if I am fan of the style of the gameplay but I'm hyped about new Zelda 2D art. It kind of reminds me of the ZFGC sprite style attempted a few years ago but with additional polish.

Updates / Re: NCFC 2017 dates announced
« on: August 09, 2017, 12:31:45 am »
Thanks for the update! Not sure why you can't make a thread in updates, but I'll post one

EDIT: oh it's already there
posting in Updates was permission-limited to Global Moderators, Managers, etc. (with the intention of it being for official statements made on behalf of the forum/site)

Yeah, Diminish was kind enough to move it.

your past Zelda contributions to the NCFC have been shining examples of the best we have here.

If the virtual machine is migrated to another server but no one is around to see it, is there really any downtime? :P

Recruitment / Re: Breath of the wild in lttp graphics!
« on: May 03, 2017, 03:11:19 pm »
I do not want to discourage you but I am locking this topic. The prior topic in Recruitment where you were asking for something similar for Skyward Sword had some advice in it which was useful - and in this topic you seem to be going  full-speed into a a project that by the sounds of it would be just be other people getting you sprites and audio, coding or teaching you to code, buying you a registered version of Game Maker (assuming this or another paid development tool), etc. It basically wouldn't even be your project at that point - what from it would there be left for you to take pride in or grow from?

ZFGC exists so that you can work aspects of a project like this individually, and if parts of it take off where others feel like they can contribute out of mutual interest then a project would tend to organically arise. Especially for a beginner, it would be for your benefit to start small and work your way up. Don't know how to code? Work within a tool that is free up until aspects of it that require money, make a walking engine and ask people questions when you get stuck, etc. Don't know how to sprite but are interested? Work on sprite edits or study those who had made sprite edits and attempt similar ones yourself. Many of us will be willing to help you work on those individual aspects if you put in an earnest effort. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, another global mod or an admin.

http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/ has .wav files of a lot of the Zelda video games sounds, didn't see it in the Audio list but found it in a quick search

« on: March 20, 2017, 03:56:26 pm »
I can't remember exactly but I may have moved this from General / Community Speak to Projects / Discussion - this board works for discussion of projects or things like game design (it's like a miscellaneous board for projects stuff). A better place may have been merging this topic into the original project topic but imfletcher hasn't been active since September 26, 2016.

Other Projects / Re: Terrible Night Engine - a Castlevania II engine
« on: March 10, 2017, 04:40:07 pm »
I'll have to try this out when I get back from work today. I remember you always putting  a lot of effort into getting the engine mechanics to match up as perfectly as you can. The topic might look nicer if instead of one really big screenshot you had maybe two or three little screenshots, also wow this guy's night engine is terrible lol

Sadly, there's no text to speech built in. That''s what I'm really looking for. I guess I'll just have to pair a TTS with the sounds in post.

This topic is nearly 5 years old and TDWP FTW hasn't been active since September 2012; please don't grave-dig topics.

Coding / Re: GBA Minish Cap Coding
« on: February 04, 2017, 08:09:56 am »
It has been a while since I have done anything with this but I cleaned up some of my code. I would have liked to fully flesh out the "depth" system so that it works more similarly to Game Maker depth-setting but this likely requires building the OBJ_ATTR all_pieces array I have via a sorting algorithm. Additionally though, I "simplified" the sprite animation such that I no longer separate out what I considered normal animations (e.g., 1 image displaying for 4 frames, next image displaying for 4 frames) and special animations (e.g., 1 image displaying for 4 frames, next image displaying for 48 frames) - instead they are all handled as special animations (it uses more space but functionally it should be faster). I also broke up non-loaded images (basically sprites that are preloaded into memory) from sprites to avoid checking on each draw if the image was preloaded or not. The sprite system also only initializes the pieces which had been used previously instead of reinitializing every piece.

Major changes:
- beginnings of a room system
- a palette swapping system
- an object system with dynamic memory allocation
- a more efficient sprite system
- some fancy bit-manipulations

code is attached!

Edit: I've removed the source code attachment due to it getting downloaded at least 16 times by other people with no feedback or thank you comment whatsoever - considering the same with my Pokemon Engine for the same reason. I'm still working on aspects of this (namely collision detections and HUD currently) and will post that at some point later.

Feedback / Re: What new forum features would you want to see?
« on: January 27, 2017, 10:58:10 pm »
So for q/a and resolved topic, do you mean like a special kind of thread like a poll, but can be used to ask a specific question (or request) and can later be marked resolved when said question has been answered?

yes, that sums it up

Feedback / Re: What new forum features would you want to see?
« on: January 27, 2017, 05:56:50 am »
not so much a feature but a modern, simpiflied clean theme so that the place looks more fresh/alive and aesthetically pleasing. otherwise, some forum software has a question/answer or resolved topic feature which would be really nice for request topics here.

Entertainment / Re: Just wait on price drop on the Switch, IMO
« on: January 14, 2017, 04:04:58 am »
I wish that they made cheaper/dumbed-down joycon attachments (saving money by getting rid of advanced rumble, gyroscopes, etc.) with better button layouts. I'm looking forward to getting the Switch eventually because I'll be able to bring it to work and on vacations - plus I already have a USB-C adapters from my Nexus 5X. But yeah, the eventual online-pay for servers that weren't always the greatest plus Nintendo online not being as well designed as Xbox/Playstation, and voice-chat through a phone has me discouraged.

I'll give it time until it has a decent library and isn't scarce to get due to understocking - if I really want to get Breath of the Wild, I'll just get it for Wii U.

Coding / Re: Pokemon Overworld
« on: January 07, 2017, 08:12:45 am »
I'm updating this topic because someone asked for my old code and the download link was dead. Attached to this post is a copy of the PokemonEngine.gmk compatible with Game Maker 8.1 (may need to be converted to newer instances of Game Maker Studio). It could be made more efficient but in addition to the grid movement it also has a nice text system that supports continuation arrows, refresh from beginning, and incrementing text.

Also the demo room contains some old ZFGC memes >.<
