Since last year's z3 topics fell into a black hole and I haven't worked on the game since then, here's a little repost for the forum's newcomers and a chance to get some more feedback.

Two Swords is a split-screen battle game for two players only, although a single player can explore and test it out on their own. It features a highly detailed engine and some original music as well. Rather than posting a whole topic about the game, I'll direct you to its mini-site with more details, screenshots, and the download:

http://noproblo.dayjo.org/ZeldaSounds/ZTS/

Last year's most common response was "Make it online!", but keep in mind that could require tons of re-designing and may not be possible. The game intentionally mimics the two-players-to-a-computer style of the old party games it was inspired by. So, I'm hoping for any feedback that will help me decide if the game is worth completing in that style, as well as any suggestions.

Awesome dude, I liked it when I first played it yesterday. =P I like the way you organized everything, and the calibration with the joypads are great. Also it works fine on Vista for me. Keep it up Capt.

Thanks 'Dude. Glad you've enjoyed it. The keyboard/joystick calibration is something I wanted to share as an engine, but it was just a little too complex since the code needs to be customised for the number of action buttons a game uses... maybe I'll try to make a tutorial some day.

Things I want to add to the full game:
- designs etched in those stone backgrounds
- a third hidden character
- fire objects like in Four Swords
- switch-activated doors and arrow shooters
- corner-cutting movement
- post-match "awards"

Make it online. I'll pay you to make it online. Whatever, just make it online.

Worked fine on Vista for me.

Nice, I tried it and it was done pretty good. It could be improved on some points but for the most part it was really good.

I'd give it a 9/10. The only problem is that if you don't have a second player, you can't play it.

I think you should am ke a story behind it. Sor of like adeventure mode in SSBM. That would be cool, and I know I say this to much but this would a great ds game. You should add cpus so if you want to just versus a cpu.

I tried this out and one suggestion is to make the second default default key mapping "wasd" instead of the "ijkl". I dunno was just expecting that when I was setting up because its so commonly used in pc games.

Also awesome! job on the packaging of the game. The interface and setup was really impressive.

I was thinking if you need gameplay ideas you should check out Crash Bash. I cant remember it too well but I think that was some pretty fun two player versus. Oh yea the fairies seem like you could also have some sort of Tron style fighting. Good luck on your game.

Thanks to a few ZFGC friends for support and offering to help, even when there wasn't much of an opportunity for helping. The rest of you suck-diddly-uck. Buy my merchandise.
XD

I'm glad you're still working on this man, it's a great project.

Feel free to tell me what points those are. ;)

I tried coming up with a story but drew a total blank. An adventure mode sounds kind of cool but CPU-controlled players would be way too hard to add, unfortunately.

pics plz.

What if I came up with a story for you. I could and all you'd have to do is add it to the game code. But the one other thing would be you'd have to is make the enemy code.

Fantastic design. Very much creative!

I think you've got some good concepts down, and some great ideas in your head for things to come. But, at the same time, there's a lot you can do to make it even better. I suggest you listen to AoDC and try to get this project online, if you feel you can. I think having a single-player mode that sort of plays like Four Swords Adventures (with levels, if you will) could work nicely. That's about all I have to say. Awesome work, keep it up.

Also, I'm so Red Link.

I'm guessing that you made it in GM, right?

Good guess!

Thread necromancy just because. I'm glad a few of you have enjoyed the game but I'm still not convinced it's worth completing since taking it online seems impossible right now. If anyone wants to give me a little crash course in online GM gaming so maybe I can understand a little better and see what could be done...

You really just need to spend a week messing with examples from GMC, and bam you'll have it.

And then after a few full online game attempts and a few revisions of the end game, after some years you'll have it looking great
O_O lol

but anyway, the dll's you can find on the GMC (I recommend 39dll) generally come with good help files and examples, so all that's leftif thinking out many ways to design the method of sending important data like movements so that it's as synced as possible but uses as little bandwidth as possible :x

I don't mind the bump because my work to response ratio on this project is criminally low.. :P

And yes, Shadow Link is one of the hidden characters. He's not in the demo though.
