Title: DM: ZFGC Project
Post by: Sophist on January 31, 2007, 12:47:02 pm
This is the placeholder for my new promised project thats been waiting so long to see the light of day
the reason is ive been working on so many other things, like ToG
being fed up with GB style i guess its time for a newer more 2007'ish style

(http://dm.fwsnet.net/ZFGC-1.png)

Start reg.bat (first time only) and then zfgc.bat to start the game

Download: http://dm.fwsnet.net/ZFGCb5.zip

Controls (for those unable to read readme.txt)
Z = Left item
X = Right item / Action
S = Lift / Throw
C = Menu
A = Minimap

This is sounding pretty cool. ;)

Quote
i made diagonal barriers/triggers, and if you understand what this means you already know the style
it will be the first fangame that supports this, ever and since ive found a good base for graphics the choice was easy to make
lol, hardly - diagonal triggers and collision barriers are more or less standard in game development. I've included them in my engines for years and years.

Anyway good luck with this :).

really? ive never seen it though, but im glad theres other good engines
and thanks
i talked to takam and i might be making the "zfgc style" game (see the zfgc style topic)
we'll see, first off im already working full speed on the other style i got but if zfgc style turns into something
i will definitely change it. :)

i guess its that time
i promised TakaM i would make a working demo of the ZFGC style that he and many others contributed to
im not gonna include link for now, since its incomplete
demo later today, if i can make it... times running out =)

and infinitus, im not talking about diagonal triggers, i was talking about SLIDING
and i still havent gotten it right... though ive been very lazy to try.. ill get there
just dont complain about it now, it wont be working in this demo
consider this a good starting point for further development :D

And the test run is out...

1. sliding is bugged!
2. i didnt add all the stuff i wanted to, need more time
3. ill make the rain go away whenever

And for those unfamiliar with my engine:
Run reg.bat first then start zfgc.bat

Enjoy :P

ZFGC.bat did you do reg.bat first though?

It says that it can't find the DM-DBG, when I can see it.

thats strange

Interesting, It's not really anything but a walking demo with a static map.  LET ME SEE MORE.  Really with the power of computers now a days and seeing that your a pretty good programmer.  You should be able to have NPCs walking all over the place, talking to Link and enemies up by the next demo... Right? :P

..not if those sprites haven't been done by then. And I think the whole point of the ZFGC style is for everybody to use it, not to have a "the ZFGC-style game"

3 Suggestions.

1) Dear god, get rid of the rain - it looks totally out of place.
2) The hud could do with a touch up to - it looks out of place as well.
3) Change the player graphics, they look like they've been shrunk vertically when placed near the other sprites.

Post by: Sophist on March 19, 2007, 03:15:42 pm
if you read my post i debated what i would do with the rain
then i explained that ive only been able to spend 2 hours on the entire demo
though i do have a wonderful engine to run it in, it takes time to fill the world with stuff that interacts well with the player
and with other interfaces
also, the player graphics stay until zfgc styled link is made

and Kame, like captain obvious once said, its a tentative title
if anyone wants to make me a great story go ahead
but i dont accept !@#$% and half assed attempts, minimum vocab is mandatory :P

anyways, today ill be able to spend several hours on the game before i release the second build
which should be thought of as the "first demo" since the former was nothing more than a test run

i might be making the "zfgc style" game (see the zfgc style topic)
I was referring to that <_<

sure, TakaM asked me to in February and have been nagging about it since
only thing missing to make a playable start would be links basic animations
only front so far :/ shame really

Gonzo, if you want to use it, here is the most recent young Link sheet as sprited by TomPel and myself. I had hoped someone would pick up the baton and try and animate .TakaM's adult Link ::) but you might want to use these in the meantime...
(http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7829/latestlinkcg7.png)
We are working through it very slowly unfortunately. But we do aim on doing a full sheet between us.

that sheet is wonderfully aligned... but due to the massive time it would take me to implement it fully
i cant do it at this hour.. i have a world system that needs to be adjusted and reinvented
sorry about that :P i wanted to do it but, just not now

The official demo is out!

* Added the octorok enemy
* Stones, bushes, trees+shadows, signs
* Better dynamics than in the test run
* Heart random drop
* No rain

If the game is running slow on your computer let me know
and go to data\mods\ZFGC\config.ini and change hq=1 to hq=0
it disables most of the alpha-blending

Anything else, bugs? Tell me...

I get Runtime Error: Path not found when i try to run it.

I added
New build 3 out:
Made non-stretching picture default, go to config.ini and set game.stretch to 1 if you want the original back
Fixed stones, they no longer die/disappear on throw

Also, i added a small comment on how to start the game in main post! (fissure)

Build 4 out
very disappointed with my progress
fixed so many issues, and had to write so much code for so little
and i still need to fix a movement issue and make the diagonal barriers work
I also need to scrap the two maps i made, theyre just for show, kind of

Whats new:
* New map: The bridge
* Stones cant be lifted now
* Regular game window (256x256), to enable it go to data\mods\zfgc\config.ini and set game.stretch to 0

^ I wanted to end it like that but some MOD would slap me.
Ryan I'm pretty sure this isn't an online game.

a mod? if you want to make maps, go ahead and design them
(ill finish the maps, just make sure theyre superb in quality and design :P )
if you want to redesign the menu, or make a better interface then youre welcome to do that too

the new map is north of the town

Well, there's no new map for me, or it doesn't work, or i don't have the build 4...

working on the game for 8 hours straight must have taken its toll on my brain :/
its uploaded now! again, sorry

Two things, the alpha-blending or translucency is slow atm, im working on another one atm
and it will probably be out first thing tomorrow
and the sliding/diagonal barriers are irritating even for me, theyre incomplete (almost no code)
they will be done whenever... no ETA

Interesting. The Link is of course non-fitting...but I want to see where this goes.

I'd just like to mention that this style was originally created for ZFGCCP, which is in development right now. No, it is not cancelled. You'll be wowed by it.

actually, i probably wont
maybe ill be wowed at the graphics for a second but then i realize its more like a game maker moving mockup
like the rest of the games on this forum
anyways, im not sure im gonna continue on this project anyways, so good luck with ZFGCCP

I thought Taka just got out of bed one morning and said "lets make zfgc style".
