I mean.... making such things illegal all of a sudden can't change anything...

well... I haven't played SMG yet... but just for being Mario it has something like a "plus" for many gamers..

maybe is the greatest of all games..
or maybe people just got bored...of the old games
like OoT, wich in my opinion.. it's just fabulous =)
