yeah. i thought it'd be like what xp was to previous OS' when it first came out.
of course, over time stuff will get ironed out and people will switch over too it.
but right now, there's no reason for me too :P

Actually, I have never been the guy to stick to old operating systems. I have usually embraced new OS quite easily. (Well, except for Windows ME) I just never saw such a jump in system requirements as I've seen in Vista. Meh, your probably right. I probably give in at some point however, it'll be for a better reason than just a pretty face.

It gained as much features as XP did to ME or whatever it was. Good looks and sexy features, describes every OS release.

ME and 2000 were sort of transitionary OS' though, weren't they?  You could easily argue the last stable rock they had to jump from was 98.  ME was compatible with tons of things but easily crashed, and 2000 was stable as hell but there were serious limitations on compatibility.

I've got a few questions about it since the main descriptions I've heard of it is that it's just WinXP slowly transforming into Mac OSX in appearance and sleekness.  First of all, can you elaborate on the secondary RAM thing?  I only have 512Megs, it could quite possibly be corrupt, and this sounds like something that I've gotta look into.  Secondly, I've heard computer startup from a cold boot is lightning fast, but only heard it from one person, so what's your experience?  Third, how much more HD space did the upgrade take up?  I'm running low on HD space as well, sadly, less than a gig on either of my two drives and I would probably have to burn a lot to DVD (or resize my gentoo partitions slightly) if upgrading takes a lot. 4 depends on if you got the 64 bit edition, if so does that hinder program compatibility or overall effect?  Got more, but I'll save em for later.

I've tried vista and it was decent. I was running it on my laptop, 40 gigs of HD space 15 gigs of that free. 768 Megabytes of RAM and a very, very weak graphics card. It ran pretty smoothly. I didn't use Home Premium, though it was Home Basic. I only wanted to try it out without the eyecandy. Plus my card blew up when I had home premium running. Although, on my desktop, home basic ran 100% fine. I know it had over 1 gig of ram, 2.5 ghz processor? I don't exactly remember specs offhand.

Startup is anywhere from 10 seconds to 2minutes. Depends on your startup items/options.

Your HDD will need a crapload of gigs. Honestly, Vista uses alot =/.

I have heard about 64bit issues with Vista, you'd have to check the manufacturer website. Also, when you purchase Vista, it only comes with the 32bit version. You have to purchase the 64bit version from the internet.

ReadyBoost rules, IMO. I can run MSN, WMP, 2 OoL clients and the server with no issues. The first time you run a program, it'll move it around somehow to make the next start time faster. Dont know how it works exactly. Just be sure to Defrag weekly.

If you can waist your time on typing that, you can read the Windows Vista Privacy Statement.

...and here's me still sticking to Win2K.  AHHHHHhhhhh......  it's so light and fast. :D

Now if ReactOS could get into a daily-usable state, I'm dumping Windows for GOOD.

2k was a great OS. nice increases, not hard to get used to, supported mroe things, was generally a much more powerful 98 with some extra niceties. XP was mostly all niceties, and Vista is entirely niceties and leaks. Most new features of Vista have been available as additional software that is compatible with even 2k. And I personally find the new theme to look menacing with the dark blue and green.

I dropped my Vista partition, and installed Ubuntu. :P I personally think the Mac OS is the prettiest GUI out there, and you don't need a gig of ram to run it. Those Mac commercials crack me up.

You just described every Apple product in existance.

Got an iPod? Download a multi-boot loader, ipod linux, and rockbox. Well, if you have rockbox (Built in GBC emulator! PLAY POKEMON ON YOUR iPOD!) you'll barely use ipod linux, but...

Got a Mac? Try to multi-OS it and get XP (and maybe Linux) to work on it! I know it's taking two opposing forces, and a middle-runner, to work together, but it'll be bloody worth it!

In short, Apple = bad. Apple + Hacks = good.

All these Mac vs PC advertisements on TV do make me think about getting a mac, but I like programming on my PC with Vista <3.
